Dear Kenneth
I have jsut found that a distant relation of mine married a Abraham Diss in 1849 Rochford Essex England, she was Sarah Pitt (sometimes Sarah Ann Pitt), they seem to have a lot of children and I've followed them through the English Census' It looks as though Abraham died in 1893 aged 66yrs. My connection is through a Stephen Pitt who was her Uncle (her father was Isaac Pitt). I can be contacted direct through sondrast@bigpond.net.au
Regards Sondra Stafford (Australia)

The surname Beerman is wrong, it should be Behrmann, Julia was the daughter of Abraham Behrmann and Hanna Rosen (aka Anna Rosa, Anne Rose) her mother Hanna later married William Todd in Taradale.
The Rosen family originated in Prussia/Germany and migrated to Ballarat circa 1855.
Hanna came to Australia with her brother Adolph
My interest is in the Rosen family now anglicised to Rose when they came to Australia.

I have a lot of early names some family groups but still very few connections. You can find what I have at the family site.

Walter was a White Friar and confessor to John of Gaunt. He was a papal nuncio. I seem to remember he is buried near the altar of Norwich Priory which would be quit an honour.

Andy

Good to speak with again! I am stuck with some people. I will mail again, with details to see if you have input on the early Diss Family.

Take Care,

Kenneth

I am descended from the Diss/Rayner line of Essex.
Wm=Judith Rayner
Richard=Eleanor Rayner
Moses=Mary Ann Turner
George=Sarah Jane Dixon Hawkins
George Ernest=Susan Ella Gorsuch
Fleetwood Talbot=Grace Scholz
I have done a substantial amount of research in the Essex Record Office & also at the Society of Genealogists in London. Further, about 15 years ago I made contact with a5th Diss Cousin (off a Frederick line) who had done substantial research. He died, but his son now has a Diss website.
If there's any way I can help, please contact me

Found this message board purely by chance, and looked at dissfamilytree.co.uk.
My Diss is my father-in-law's grandmother, and I found her parents and six children - but she wasn't included. I have written a message to let the site creator know.
But how lovely that I have her brothers and sisters - what a bonus. I did notice that one of the siblings married a Pierpoint - would that be any relation to the hangman?

Kelly,

Hey its Royleen. I had been doing a family tree for Garrett for the past year. I found that Maurice Kentz had changed his name in the Census records. He is listed as Morris Kentz. He was married to a Otlia Diss. I have a copy of the Census records.

According to the 1930 Census "Morris" and "Otilia" were wed at the ages of 31 & 25 respectively. The year was approximately 1923.

I am still trying to search the parents of Maurice and Otilia at this time but have hit a dead end. I hope this little bit helps.

Hello Kimberly

The information on Judith Rayner comes from the Parish Records at Bocking. Since posting the original message I have continued to search for the Diss and Rayner ancestors without success. However I have been able to trace back a little on Judith's mother's side. Her parents were Israel Rayner and Judith Cook from Bocking. Judith Cook's parents were Thomas Cook and Mary Kittle or Kettle from Little Leighs Essex. Again this information was taken from the parish records.

I hope that this is of some interest to you

Regards

Tony

Hi Tony,
It appears that there is a great deal of confusion from William to Abraham to Frederick. I do know that there was a William Henry Clay Diss married to Laura Columbus Williams in Kinmundy, Illinois and from there the history is pretty solid. Unfortunately, it appears that my family was given erroneous info back in the early 1970s and we have based on family tree on those facts.

There are some others that have the same info as I do (Sheri Johnson & Angie Diss) and I believe we are all working from the same paperwork. I will continue with my search and it will either turn up something concrete or it won't.

Thanks for your assistance,
Kimberly

I think I might have the Abraham you're looking for, but I'm gathering my materials right now for another trip to England. I usually go twice a year. I'll be back on Nov. 15th. There's much info on Halstead where Abraham was from, along with hundreds of other Disses. They were prolific.

My info on Abraham would be about the same as his, since Geoff I communicated somewhat awhile back. However, the last trip I took to England in Feb of 200, I did much more work on the Rayners and Cooks, from whom we are descended. They are also Essex, Halstead people.
Who are your Diss grandparents that are visiting and are you here in the States? I'm from NJ.
Please send me your personal e-mail as it's too much to put on this message board.

Judy

Have you corresponded with Andy or with his Dad Geoff before he passed?

Also, for all Disses reading this message, I'm going to Salt Lake City to the Mormon Lib. on Feb 5th for a week. As I mentioned in another message to you, he sent me your address and personal e-mail, but it got soaked I couldn't retrieve it. PLEASE forward them to me, as I have many updates corrections to his info from my own research in England, both pre post 1900. Also, Dec was a lousy month for Diss deaths. My first cousin George Ronald Diss died on Dec. 29th quite unexpectedly. He also had prostate cancer, but a ruptured aortic aneurysm killed him within 2 hours. Take care during these trying times for you and your family and send my regards to Sheila.
Judy
