LaVonne,
According to the genealogy report that my nephew just developed from the web, it shows that Levi is the son of Samuel.

I read one of your other messages and you said that you can trace the David's back to Henry I, would you please share that information with me, also if you have the names of David wife & children (This David was Henry I's son born in 1758.

I tie Samuel in with David as a son even though I have no proof. The information I have from a reliable source says that a "son born in 1793", I think this is Samuel.

If you'd like to view the 205 pages of the Adams/Ditch web site, let me know.
I am from the Smeyers side of the family. It has just been in the last few years that I have had time to do any investigating of the "fringe" families. Back then they certainly weren't very creative when it came to naming their children. In all of these families there are more Davids, Daniels, Henrys, Marys and Elizabeths.......I am sorry that I cannot help you with Levi or Samuel Ditch. I have found throughout the years that many people would start out in the census with one name in 1850 and in the next few decades it would change. Feel free to contact me with any questions at any time. I just might have the right answer!!!! Happy hunting..let me know if you find anything. Annette

I have a Samuel Ditch (b.abt. 1793) in my family, who married (i820) Katarina Smeyers (b. abt. 1798). Their children were, as far as I know: Daniel, Geo. Washington, David, Levi, Sarah, Mary, John and Henry. There may be others that I have as yet not found. I think all the children were born in western PA {Armstrong, Cambria and/or Indiana Co,s.) Some of them ended up in Iowa.
I believe we have been in touch before, sometime back. How do you fit into this tree? Please refresh my memory.
I am searching for Samuel's parents. The Levi in his home in 1850 census was not his son, a relative yes, but not his son. According to his son Henry's pension papers it lists all the sons and Levi was not one of them. I have traced Levi Ditch to Clearfield County, PA where I believe he died. His wife stayed there also. I would like to get a hold of Levi's death record to find out his parents (hopefully they are listed), I believe they will lead me to Samuel's, Levi was possibly Samuel's nephew.

I can't remeber if I replied or not. But I have been working on this for almost twenty.

I got strted after talking with Dr Gerald Ditch. He is a cousin of my Dad. His father and my dad were cousins. We both share a David Ditch & Jane Ditch. As was said there are so many David's and I'm stuck on the first David, because there is no information on him. I've even paid to find info, but it's not there.

My G Granfather David Diitch was Dr Gerald's Grandfather and David was the son of the second George Washington Ditch.

The first GW Ditch was the son of a Samuel Ditch whom we can't find a father for him (however I've decided that the first David Ditch is his father. In the census it jst mentions dates of David's son - this one says "son b.1795..." & that is wher Samuel fits in.

Then Davis I is the son of Henry & Eve Ditch the first of our family in America.

Now if this confuses you, don't worry, half of the time I forget my password.

A distant relative

CaRL DITCH

Hi,

I have the entire 100 pGES OF THE SMYERS ON MY COMPUTER., HOWEVER I HAVENT FOUND CATHERINE WHO MARRIED SAMUEL, BUT I DID FIND HER MOTHER & FATHER (PHILLIP Smyers& ANNA MARGARET Leffler).

For the past two weeks I've been concentrating on finding anything about Samuel. I have been digging into every lead I get. My last was finding that Samuel was born in Maryland -so through all census and other records. Most in the census had a list of relatives, but not one for Samuel.

I have decided (without any proof) that Samuel is the son of David (Henry I's son). The census list two sone born during the time of Samuels birth, doesn't list names just dates. And the census lists Gavid in Maryland in 1800 & 1810, but I havent' found him in yhe 1820 census. David must have died between 1810 1nd 1829, so I'm sending to PA for a death certificate and I'm going to see if they have a birth certificate for Samuel, it should list his Father & mother.

I haven;t found a bonafide list of Davids children. The only one I have listed is Christena and I have spent a lot of time on her. According to Lynn Marti's records, David had five daughters and four sons. Samuel has to be the one listed as born 1795-1799.

The Smyers work must have taken years to make.

Two weeks ago I returned from the Ditch reunion help in the Morrison Cove area. I stayed with a brother for a week in Indiana County, but getting caught up with my eight brothers & sisters took all my time. I need to spend a couple weeksa there just researching.

Well, I've written too much, Was glad to hear from you. Please keep in touch.

A distant cousin,

Carl Ditch

HI,
THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER.

For many years we searched for the maiden name of Samuel's wife, we figured it was either Steffy or Smyers. Finally found it with Samuel's service records. His son Hebry was killed in Missippi in the Revolutionary war & he had information in his file, however we werent sure of the spelling of Catherine or Katarins, etc.
However we did learn the Samuel and Catherine were married in Indiana, PA in 1829 and Catherine was born in PA1798 and died 1859 in Benton, Iowa. Botg were buried tgere, but a flood washed them out, so they were transplanted somewhere else.
We know that Catherin's parents were Jacod and (I can't find his wife right now).
Carl carl2@thewoofen.com Please write

Hello: I have discovered an 1850 census, which you might know about. This listed a
Susan Ditch and Daniel Ditch, so I am thinking this was his first wife. They were listed at a hotel in Western Pennsylvania. The Stephy, as you know, was the married name of a sister to Mary Kellar Ditch, so I dont think it would be Susan's maiden name.
My e-mail is mshinton@msn.com
