My father (Theodore Mehlig born 1905) had a cousin George Dittrich. We have a photo of young George taken in a studio outside of Dresden. Believe George immigrated here, unknown when. Mehlig family from town outside of Dresden. Are there any Oscars or Maxs in your line.

Yes, I am John Dittrich's son, his mother was Catherine. So Catherine was my grandmother.
She was married to Bernard Dittrich(my grandfather)
Tom lives in MI, Richard is in CA, Katherine is in MN, John has passed away, and Ben unknown. We know that Catherine had 7 brothers n sisters (Louis O. Fontaine,Thomas Fontaine,Marie Fontaine,Joseph P. Fontaine,Rose Louise Fontaine,Robert Fontaine, Anges Fontaine) Would one of these be your father? Do you know anything about the rest of the Dittrich/Fontaine family?
Email me back
Thanks

Dee,

I also have an ancestor named Jakob Dittrich. He is my gggrandfather. All I have are some sketchy notes I found in my dad's desk after he passed away. According to his information, this Jakob was born in approximately 1870. His father's name was Franz, and he had siblings named Kaspar and Elisabeth. Jakob had five children: Stefan, Josef, Johann, Michael, and Maria. It doesn't seem to be the same person, but perhaps they were somehow related.

My ancestors lived in Brestowatz in the Banat. (There is also a village by that name in Batschka. ) I'm not certain when they settled there. The family remained there until the end of WWII, then lived in Austria before coming to the United States in 1956.

If you have any more information, i'd love to hear from you.

Dear Monica
Thank you very much for your reply. Your ancestors are as close as you could get to mine, in fact they may have been related. My grandparents are from Baja which is in Bacska region adjoining Banat. Baja is less than 20 miles from Yougoslavia. The years are also seem relevant, and although Baja is considered a relatively large city by hungarian standards, my family was the only Dittrich family there.
I was excited to hear from you and please write me again.
George

Howdy,

Thanks for writing. My database does not have that name. I do have pretty accurate records starting with my great great grandfather, Johann Joseph Dittrich, born 1780 in Polnisch Neudorf - Silesia - and died 1862 in Breslau, Germany. I do have his direct ancestors (father, grandfather, gr gr grandfather, aso) till 1350. What I do not have might be his uncles, great uncles, cousins, etc. Maybe what you have could fit in. After all, Plauen is not too far from Dresden, which is not too far from Breslau (about 200 miles). My gr. gr. grandfather's family lived in that area - Silesia - since around 1600. Presumably, they came from France during the 30 years war (1618/1648), under the name of Thierry, probably as a mercenary, or whatever. In those days war ravaged all of Europe and troops were plundering and plundering. Georg Friedrich Dittrich, alias Thierry, established himself in Ober-Langenau purchasing a forge and establishing himself as a smith. The family acquired extensive property in the area and became quite wealthy.
Well, that's enough for today. Maybe there is something you can sink your teeth in. If you know the name of your gr.gr. grandfather, maybe we could establish a relationship and you would end up as beig one of my lost cousins.
So long. Please write if this was of any help, or not.

Ingo Klein

Dittrich family tree Hungary/Germany?

Hello Ingo!
It seems that you have a very extensive trace of the Dittrich family.
Please read the bulletin board under my name, currently on top of the list.
My great grandfather, Dittrich Gyorgy ( the way Hungarians put family name first) was born in the second part of the 18 hundreds in Hungary.
His mother's name Anna Dittrich (my great great grandmother) was the only name on his Birth Certificate. Do we connect to your ancestors somewhere? I don't have any records where she was born.
Please respond, perhaps you have more information than what is here on this Bulletin Board.
Thanks,
George Detre

Hi
You are the most recent message on the Bulletin Board before me. Please read my message sent by me. Even if we do not converge somewhere please let me know if you were able to trace back to Europe. My grandfater wa born in Hungary sometime the second part of 18 hundreds. His mother's name was Anna Dittrich but there was no entry for a father's name on the Birth Certificate, thus was probably illegitimate.
Please respond to my e-mail address george_detre@affymax.com
Also anyone else reading this, see if we could collaborate on drawing our family tree.
Thanks from a Dittrich!

My great grandfather Dittrich Gyorgy (Hungarians use last name first) was born in Hungary sometime the second part of 18 hundreds. I can't go further in my search.
One of my relatieves has his birth certificate, but only his mother's name is entered. Apparently he was illegitimate, which is not such a big deal today than it was then.
According to what I have been told by my brothers and sisters, my father apparently
did not have any other brothers and sisters. The way things in my family have been kept secret
there might be a possibility. I am trying to go back beyond my father to his
parents. I know their names and where they resided when my father was born. I am told his
parents died in a Nazi concentration camp circa 1939 - 1944. I am also told that my father had a
relative that lived in Pittsburgh Penn. I do not know his name, but I have a picture. I am going to
write to local newspapers in Pitt. Penn. and send along a copy of the picture-----possibly someone will
recognize the people. I will be working on my fathers family soon. Maybe, we are related.!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice talking to you.

Perhaps I can offer a clue in your search. My Dittrich ancestors are also from Hungary in the 1800's, previously from Germany. In my case, they lived in the Banat, an area which is now part of Serbia in present-day Yugoslavia. My grandfather's name was Peter Dittrich, born in Banat-Brestowatz in 1916. His father's name was Michael Dittrich. I know that my grandfather had cousins named Dittrich in the same village. Please let me know if you research this further and find that we are related.

Dear George,
I spoke with my grandmother yesterday and she gave me some interesting information. She told me that someone in the Dittrich family had gone to the church and looked up the records years ago. They found that my ancestor who migrated to the Banat had two brothers. One of them migrated to Bacska, while the other stayed in Germany. I don't know the specific location in Germany, but I believe it was in the southern part of the country, possibly the Black Forest. Please let me know if any of this matches any information you have.
