I have no connection to the Divany surname but am compiling a booklet about former rural and early school teachers once of Elk and nearby counties. During my research I came across the following information: Johnsonburg Press 9/6/1901, marriage of John Sullivan to Mary Divany on 9/4/1901. Same newspaper in column "33 years ago." from 3/1931 - 11/17/1898 Patrick Divany married Lizzie Leahy.
Article Johnsonburg Press 6/29/1978 page 1: mass of resurrection for Geraldine M.Long... of cellebrated June 28 ..she died at 6:30 on Sunday in Ridgway hospital after a long illness..born at Kane, Pa .. was daughter of the late Thomas and Anne Divany Long.... graduated from Johnsonburg High school and taught in Johnsonburg area school retiring in 1970....she was the last of her immediate family...several cousins survive. Geraldine's mother, Anna Long was born in Ireland abt 1882...seems Anna Divany Long was already a widow in 1930 living with her daughter.. in Johnsonburg... It is mentioned Anna Divany Long was "born in Irish Freestate," father was born in England. According to 1920 FCensus .. Michael Divany, age 68 years, born Ireland, est birth 1851, was living in Johnsonburg. 1920 USFC lists Patrick Divany, age 46 .. born Ireland, abt 1873, living in Johnsonburg. Perhaps the above-noted information will help with the Divany family genealogical research.
