George Dively- South Dakota (Iowa too???)

I'm doing research on another family line entirely, but am accessing the Bison, South Dakota "Courier" from around 1911.

I thought that any family members who might be interested about the "notorious" George Dively, you might want to get a copy of the April 5, 1911 Bison Courier from the State Archives.

It's the story of his jail brake with another prisoner.

Hi David!
I just saw this post today and it confirms the research that I have found, but much more detail. Thank You so much, my grandfather is August J. but he changed his name to Walter Augustus and he always believed he was born in 1912, that is actually on his headstone. I spoke to his sister Mary (Louise) and she was actually adopted, he just took some other family's last name. Our name was always Dolan when it should've been Leturgez. I remember my Grandmother speaking of a Henry or Hank and I believe I have found his address. Please feel free to email me at farrahbrandy@gmail.com and I have a few pictures that I can send, if you have any as well that would be great. Do you know how Margaret died? Thanks again...
Farrah

Jeane,
My husband's Fickes line goes like this; Valentine Fickes, Issac Fickes Sr., Jacob Fickes Sr., Solomon Fickes, Jeremiah Fickes, Frank Andrew Fickes, and John Marshall Fickes(my husband). I am quite sure Jacob Fickes and Rosana Lingenfelter Fickes are my husband's gggrandparents. Do you have any information on the children of Jacob and Rosana? I would love to have a copy of that will. My e-mail is msjfickes@hotmail.com. I am also interested in your Marshall name. My husband's grandfather Jeremiah Fickes married a Bertha Marshall in Rushville,Nebraska on Dec. 24, 1895. They headed west with her family and lived in Montrose,CO for a few years where my husband's father Frank was born in 1899. They then moved to Newberg, OR for a time before moving up to Okanagan, WA where my husband was born in 1946. Jeremiah and Bertha Fickes and Frank and Elsie Fickes are all buried in Okanagan, WA. I look forward to hearing from you.
Mary Sue Fickes

Orphans Ct., Bedford Co., Document 7, pg 515, dated 2/1849 re. Valentine Fickes who died in 1848 lists his wife Elizabeth, Isaac, eldest son residing in Bedford Co, Elizabeth and Barbara, minors of deceased son, Jacob, residing in Cambria Co., Solomon, Elizabeth w of Michael Dively, Valentine residing in Blair Co. Can you help me place this Valentine whose wife is Elizabeth. I am concerned about the minor children of Jacob, Elizabeth and Barbara. I also have the document dated Aug. 1848 of Jacob Fickes and wife Rosanna listing the following: Isaac, Rachel m Valentine Fickes, George, Jacob, Margaret m Frederick Bowser, Rosanna m George Boser, Barbara, Elizabeth. This seems to appear that Jacob/Rosanna is the son of Valentine/Elizabeth NOT Isaac and Rachel as shown in all genealogical records. HELP!

Jacob/Rosanna Fickes

I have the petition of George A. Fickes and Jacob Fickes. administrators of the deceased Jacob Fickes of Union Twp., Bedford Co., who died intestate. The said intestate left issue eight children, to wit: Isaac, Rachel intermarried with Valentine Fickes, George, Jacob, Margaret intermarried with Frederick Bowser, Rosanna intermarried with George Bowser, Barbara, Elizabeth and a widow Rosanna Fickes. It is dated August 1848. I also have the Orphan's Court docket 7, page 515, dated February 1849 of Valentine Fickes who died intestate leaving a widow Elizabeth Fickes, four children and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Barbara Fickes, minors under the age of fourteen residing in Cambria Co., children of Jacob Fickes, deceased, Isaac, eldest son, Solomon Fickes, Elizabeth wife of Michael Dively and Valentine Fickes residing in Blair Co. I always see Jacob, husband of Rosanna (Lingenfelter) being the son of Isaac Sr. However, this tells me Jacob/Rosanna is the son of Valentine/Elizabeth. Can someone please help me regarding this. Can there be TWO Jacobs who married TWO Rosannas and died in the same year??? Can there be TWO Jacobs who have two minor children named Barbara and Elizabeth??

Michael,
I think I have written to you before about the Fickes line, but you say you have just finished the Fickes line through the Lingenfelters. My husband's cousin and I are almost certain that our ggrandfather Fickes was Solomon Fickes, b. 1823 in Bedford County PA. We think his parents were Solomon Fickes and Catherine Lingenfelter. Can you prove this. He died in Sheridan County, Nebraska prior to June 29, 1900. E-mail me as soon as possible with any information you have.
Thank you,
Mary Sue Fickes

I share many of these same ancestors, and I am stumped about Rachel wife of Isaac Fickes (1746-1827). Was her maiden name Hess or Asper? "Cemetery Lists of Bedford County, vol. 4" list her name as Hess, but everything else I have seen says it's Asper. Do you have any documentation? Thanks, Ruth

Hi,
I am searching for my grandfather's parents, Margaret Dively and Lewis Leturgez/Leturgey. My grandfather went by Walter August Dolan (adopted). After his mother passed away he was either placed in an orphanage or just given up for adoption at the age of 4. I've found some on the parent's but the name and birth year that should be my grandfather doesn't match. He had an older brother Joe and 2 sister's. After his mother's death(goiter??) his father remarried. We only have one picture, it is of Margaret on her wedding day.
Please help!!
Thanks,
Farrah

The only Charles Diveley that could be her father was Charles Martin Diveley (1867-1952) who had another child out of wedlock in 1891. I met his son Cecil in 1982, but he probably knew nothing of a half-sister. Thank you, Mike Diveley

Michael,

I have been researching my husband's Fickes line for quite some time now. My husband's cousin has been working with me and we are quite sure that his ggrandfather was Solomon Fickes. We are having a hard time determining if his parents were Jacob Fickes and Rosanna Lingenfelter Fickes or Solomon and Catherine Lingenfelter Fickes. He lived in Sandusky Co., OH for a time because my husband's son was born there in 1866. This Solomon was born in 1823 in Bedford Co., PA. I found him listed as a child of Solomon and Catherine Fickes on a Diveley sight. If you could help me solve this puzzle I'd be so happy.

Thank you,
Mary Sue Fickes

Rosanna Lingenfelter, son of Issac Sr. of Adams County PA, is my husband's ggGrandfather. This is what my husband's connection to Jacob looks like:

1.Valentine Fickes b. 1709 Adams Ct. PA
2. Issac Fickes Sr. b.
Anyone know about a Mary Ann(a) DIVELEY, b. in Georgia, m. 1st to George Francis CALDWELL, m. 2nd to Robert PEACOCK. CALDWELL apparently fought in the Civil War, then ended up in Kansas where their daughter MARTHA ESTELLE(A) CALDWELL was born in Clyde, Kansas in 1879. Next we know is Mary Ann married a Robert PEACOCK. Martha Estelle married Jesse Edward BALL in Missouri and they all then traveled to Mallard, Minnesota. Have been told Mary Ann died in Grand Rapids, MN but not certain yet. Thanks for any help!

The father of Margaret Dively was Jacob Dively (1734-1780) Jacob Dively was also my ancestor, this is how we are related. This is what I have. Mike Diveley (St. Louis)
