Re: Dixsons of Connecticut and Ireland

My kin was George Dixson/Dixon (spelled both ways). He was b, abt 1738 perhaps in Ireland. He married Abigail Lovelace/Loveless and they lived in Fairfield Co, CT. He died abt 1803 at Harpersfield, NY. Abigail was born Fairfield Ct, CT, and died Schoharie Co, NY. The family then went to Ohio for a spell and ended up in northern IL. According to family stories, they came from the lowlands and ended up in northern Ireland for some time. I have quite q bit with their descendents but sure would like to learn more about George and Abigail. Thanks

Dixson/Dixon - Oklahoma City

If you are a decendant of ANY African American Dixson/Dixon from Oklahoma City or Louisiana, please respond. My Grandparents are Martha Roberson Dixson and George Washington Dixson. My grandmother is from Kansas, my grandfather is from Louisiana. I'm told that our family's last name is actually spelled without the "s", but my grandfather added it to discern the Louisiana Dixon's from the Oklahoma Dixon's.

Rico Dixson

Oh my stars! They are my grandparents. My mom, Norma June Elks (Dixson) was Jeannette Dixson's daughter! How are you related?

Mom married my Dad, Doug Elks. I knew most of Grandma's 11 children as my uncles and aunts. They are all gone now, much to my sorrow. We lost Mom in January 2007. She was the last Dixson of her generation. Her brothers and sisters that I knew were Myrtle, Evelyn, Gloria, Lorraine, Carl, James, John, my Mom June, and I don't remember the names of the others. I know Grandma lost a few babies, but I'll need to look in the Family Bible for sure. Please contact me when you can. My email is writer959@yaoo.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
In doing some research in the Union Springs Herald (September, 1891), I came across the advertisement
Just thought I would pass it on. I don’t know if he had any responses.
Frank

WIFE WANTED—By a young man of Christian endeavor; never drinks, never visits a barroom, never plays billiards, nor goes to indecent operas. Never had any bad company, but all the best society. Love home, peace and happiness. Desires only a good plain girl. Wants a wife that will not envy her neighbor’s dress, and won’t throw away her salvation for worldly pleasures. Wants one that wishes to marry for love, not money; one that thinks and is sure that a humble home, with God’s love and protection, is worth more than gold and silver. All I care for is the welfare of all, so she loves God and tries to do right and loves me and tends to her own home, and cordially welcomes visitors, but not to join in any conversation that will lead to evil, is all I crave; so my darling loves me, no one can make me unhappy.
Any young lady wishing such a husband can secure him by writing her address. He is five feet and nine inches high, twenty seven years of age, fair complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, a painter by trade. Loves music and singing, and loves the girl that loves him.

Willie Dixson
I'm seeking information on a Daniel Dixson and his family.

I show him listed on the 1850 census for Mississippi Co., AR as a 28 year old school teacher, born in Tennessee living in the household of John and Adelia Gibson.

I don't find him on the 1860 census, but in 1870 he is still in Mississippi county, but listed as 50 year old farmer, with a wife Martha A. 37, and children John A 12, Mary C 10 and Margret 06.

On the 1880 census he is in Stoddard Co., MO and again listed as a school teacher in the household of C. Bolliver Schultz. Listed with him are children Frasier 20 and Martha 18.

Frasier is the child I'm researching and his death record states he was born 24 Sep 1871 in Luxora, Mississippi Co., AR.

I think daughter Mary married John R Donaldson 03 Apr 1883 and had a daughter Maude and son Dixon before she died between 1891 and 1900.

If anyone has additional information/corrections on this family, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks

They would not be old enough since you said their children were born in the 1820's in MS. My GGGrandparents Anderson and Adaline lived in Cunningham, NC.
FOUND: 1850 IN Census: Alexander Dixon (Blk) born 1786 in South Carolina, living in Redding, Jackson Co., IN. with wife Margaret.
1870 IN Census lists him being born in South Carolina in 1777; working as farm laborer in Redding, IN. It does not list Margaret.
Is this your Alexander Dixon?
Blessings, Betty

Census records state that my g-g-g-grandfather Alexander Dixon was born in NC, but I don't know what county. He is registered on Indiana Free Negro lists as black, his wife Margaret is listed as Mulatto. Their 3 children were all born in Natchez MS in the 1820s, so it appears that they (or at least he) went to MS from NC. I don't know whether they were free before they got to Indiana. My research in MS doesn't show them on any sort of list, including census, so they were most likely listed with a slave owner, probably not named Dixon if they had that name in NC. I'm stuck. That's as much as I know right now.
The children's names were Samuel, Minerva and Charlotte....does any of this sound familiar?
Happy Hunting, Sherla
