Hi All

I'm trying to link the DOAR family in (S.C.) USA with the DOAR family in Derby/Notts area of England.
Most of the DOARs around the world seem to be linked to the English family, including myself in New Zealand.
Are the American DOARs able to tell me when the 1st DOARs arrived in USA, whom it was, and from where. Someone did suggest Ireland/Eire.

Many thanks for any help.
Trevor Doar

my Doar and O'Brien roots

My name is Harold Joseph Levy, son of Catherine (Katie) Doar and Jack Levy, and I am trying to trace my Doar and O'Brien ancesrty, all of which was from the Charleston, SC area. My mother Catherine Doar, born June 13, 1898, was the daughter of Archibald Doar and Margaret Helen O'Brien. I know that Margaret Helen O'Brien was born on June 21, 1871 to John O'brien and Catherine Mansfield, but that's where the trail ends.

To help identify the family a bit, my mother had three brothers, Emmett, Robert (Robbie), and Henry (Henny), and two sisters, Mamie and Cecile, all of whom lived and died in the Charleston and Atlanta areas.

I believe that the OBrien part of the family was from County Cork.

If anyone has any info I would like to hear from them. My e-mail address is "hjlevy@compuserve.com". Many thanks.

Ruby got your messages, but it is a wonder. I received a message on my e-mail only today telling me I had a message and that is where I found all thes others. So I'm sorry I haven't written before now. I am planning a trip to Charleston this summer and hope to meet with some of my aunts and found out what they remember about these names. Surely someone does. Who is it that has the letters and where are they living. I don't know how to get to MEPAX, is that the only thing i type to get this. Let me know I will check my website more often now.e-mail me KParks1950@cs.com

Ruby I chatted with Dave on e-mail and he was kind to send me some papers and I am reading through them now and trying to find out where everyone goes. Sometimes this can be so mixed up but it is fun even if it is because of the people coming together and talking. My e-mail is KParks1950@cs.com write to that anytime. Kathie Doar Parks

Doar

Would the plantation be the Doar plantation in Georgetown? Also, remembered Lucille Wilson's son's name: one was named James (we called him Jr.) The other one according to my twin, Ruby Comstock, was Aiken, although I don't remember him. Lucille Wilson, Granny (Edna Platterson Gates)and Mrs. Sweatman, plus another lady played cards all week end.
Also, at the time Mrs. Wilson lived on Meeting St., she had another young man staying with her, said he was a relative, his name was Bill Watts. When he went into the Army, he was sent to France and had his arm injured pretty bad. He married a girl from France and divorced sometime after they came to the states. I dated him before he went into the service. Let me know if my Lucille Wilson is the same as yours. Thanks Ruth

I believe you Aunt Lucile Doar Wilson is related to my grandmother, Edna Leake Patterson. Her mother was Eleanor (Ellen) Meynardie. Mrs. Wilson and my grandmother use to play cards all the time. This was in the 1940's on East Hampstead Square. Mrs. Wilson lived in the 500 block of Meeting St.Charleston, SC.Her son went into the Air Force in WWII. Can't recall his name off hand. Let me hear from you. Been trying to find out about Pelzer Doar for quite a while. Granny said he was related to us. Thanks. Ruth
