Hi Lisa,

I am descended from William and Mary also, by their son, Henry Dobb, baptised in 1819. He married Ann Dean of Bolsover, Derby., and had 4 children in Eakring: Hannah, Matthew, Luke & Fanny. My ancestor was Matthew, who married Mary Jane Darby. Their daughter, Lucy Elizabeth Dobb, born in Eakring on 28 Jan 1878, is my gg grandmother who married Henry Frecknall.

I be glad to share more information and would really appreciate any information you have. Perhaps it would be easiest to communicate via email? Mine is area44@netzero.net

Thanks,
Alexander

DOBB Family from Porthlevin Cornwall

I have an interest in descendants of the family of Samuel Dobb
b 1820 Porthlevin (mason and innkeeper) and his wife Jane (nee Rowe) born 1819 Porthlevin. They were married on 5 May 1842 in Sithney Parish. Their children were Mary Jane(b 1843), Edith
(b 1845), Elizabeth Ellen (b 1847), Laura (b 1848) Frederick Adolphus (b 1850), Helena (b 1856). Frederick Adolphus immigrated to NZ and married Janet Wilkliams in 1881 at Thames, NZ.
Since Frederick was the only male, the Dobb name may not appear in the descendants of any of his sisters. Frederick also changed his name to Dobbs on arrival in NZ. I am happy to share information about this information.

Dobb family

Dear Amber Dobb: I have traced my family back to the 1700's in England and they were all in Yorkshire Lincolnshire. My father was born in Doncaster, Yorkshire and moved to the suburbs of London after the first world war where he met and married my mother. I moved to Canada with my family after the second world war, in 1956. I have never found any Dobb family from Cornwall. In my research the name has been spelled Dobb, Dob and Dobbs. It seems many of my ancestors were illiterate and I think when births, marriages and deaths were reported the registrar just spelled the name the way he thought it should be. Vic Dobb

As you said your family hails from a district quite a distance from Cornwall - but due to the unusual name - it is quite possible that there i some realation. My dad's grandfather's parents(or it might have been just his father)came form England I believe without having the family tree directly in front of me. Preston's father dies when he wa svery young so much beyond this generation was lost. I believe a brother, or same realation emigrated at the same time and went into Canada rather than the US - as stories say handed through the family. I find it interesting that you are also in Canada. It would be interesting to talk if you would like to reply back sometime.
Amber

Laura Amber: Have read your messages. As you say the Dobb name is quite unusual so I wonder to what extent we may be related. My branch of the family is from Yorkshire - quite a distance from Cornwall when one considers the distances to be travelled in the early days. I have traced my side of the family back to the 1700's; all from Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. I myself emigrated from England more than 40 years ago and now live in Canada. If your relatives can let you know if amy connection, I would be pleased to hear from you. Regards.

My goodness Laura - I couldn't believe when I read your message! My great-great-great granfather was also from Cornwall and was a tin miner. The coincidence is uncanny because the plain Dobb name is not that common and I have not heard of any other than my family who were all fom England as far as I know on this branch of my family. My grandfather who was th tin miner was named William James who married a Mary Ann. I would love to hear back from you if any of this information coincides.
