I just returned from a trip to NW Alabama where my Great-grandfather, James Franklin Dobbs, lived and present day Dobbs live. I found a book called "Gone to Alabama" which has info on Dobbs families in the Heritage Museum at Red Bay, Al. Could it be your book? Only remember the title and not the author. Sorry.
