I have just read your message. My grandfather's father was Thomas Wilkes Dobbs. He was married to Alice Mary Dobbs (Nee Henry) I have a copy of my grandfather's birth certificate. He was born July 4, 1904 in New York. The father's name listed is Thomas Wilkes Dobbs age 37, which would fit being born 1867. I have some more information if you would like. My email address is sprattjohnson@cogeco.ca .

Chris Johnson Oakville, Ontario, Canada

Hello,

I am very interested in knowing more about Jesse Dobbs. Is he your ancestor that you believe is a descendant of James?

Rebecca Dobbs, daughter of James, married Henry Prewitt. I also read that Joseph was in the area with James - do you know of further info on this?

I do have much information on the Dobbs and would appreciate knowing any information you might have on Jesse, James, etc.

Thank you,

Jan Dobbs

I am very interested in more information specifically on Jesse Dobbs. I believe James had a daughter, Rebecca, that married Henry Prewitt. I also found that Joseph came to the area about the same time - do you have any further information on that.

I do have quite a bit of information on various Dobbs and would be interested to hear more of Jesse, if possible.

Thank you,

Jan Dobbs

Michael,

I doubt that you have the same email, but will try. I am most curious of your moving to Antrim. My husband is now involved in the DNA Dobbs testing and his great, great grandfather was Fortunatus N. Dobbs born in 1805 in GA. The testing has show that his father is most likely Nathaniel, Rev. Patriot, and his father Fortunatus. It has been said that Fortunatus came from N. Ireland. My husband's family is definitely English. I would be most interested in communication, if you wish to further discuss the line. There was a Fortunatus (believed to be the son of Fortunatus 1) in Bedford County, TN on the tax list of 1812 and then my husband's ancestor Fortunatus N. and he had a son, Fortunatus.

Thank you,

Jan Dobbs

Trotter, so his parent would have been 1/2 indian and his grandparent full blood indian. I don't know if this helps, but you are te first one to confirm our indian blood.

Please does your Dobbs Book have anything about my GG Grandparents Joseph Dobbs born in Kentucky and death unknown with spouse Sarah Ann Huckaby born 1824 in Tennessee. I have a 1860 censes of theirs with children in Prairie, Carroll, Arkansas. Listed there it has that my Joseph Dobbs' parents were born in North Carolina and I need to find the parent's names. Sad to say there has been another family intertwined with my Joseph Dobbs and the one that belongs to someone else has 3 dif ways I have found his name Joseph Dobbs, Joseph Jasper Dobbs, and Jasper Dobbs born 29 Feb Cherokee Georgia death 11 Dec 1901 Cherokee Georgia and his spouse Malissa M Tippens b 19 May 1822 in Pendleton, Anderson, South Carolina death 11 May l908 Cherokee Georgia. Both these families children have been posted correctly with the correct mother tho. One or the other Joseph Dobbs may have the birth and death of each intertwined with the other and sometimes both spouses for just the one Joseph Dobbs a big mix,and sometimes the wrong Joseph Dobbs with just the one spouse and not the correct one, and I am finding also with 3 wifes on the same page, a Lucy Dobbs b 1783 with three children born 1809, 1819, 1820, I have a Lucy Dobbs married a Joseph Dobbs b 1800 but there is a dif in age there also and she is daughter of Chesley Dobbs. I just found that and I will have to research that more, but I do know that she is not a spouse of my Joseph Dobbs b 1820 in Ky. I esp would like to find the names of my Joseph Dobbs' parents and they according to the 1860 census was born in North Carolina. Does anyone know anything about my Joseph Dobbs b 1820 in Kentucky and looks like he lived in Missouri and the last in Arkansas. I do not know when he left Kentucky. Thank you, Bonnie

Hi, Cathy, thank you for replying and so soon. I just wrote you this Thank you message and wanted to preview it and couldn't get it back to this place to check a mistake in spelling so I want to give you my email address. It is caplalko&yahoo.com I was telling about why I was writing to you was because the wrong, for me, Joseph Dobbs, Joseph Jasper Dobbs, Jasper Dobbs all three are one and the same are from Georgia and my Joseph Dobbs was born in Ky and went to Missouri and then just across the line to Arkansas. I have read every Dobbs info on this computer that I have found and I have a mental picture of dif lines and I am trying to find where I might fine my Joseph Dobbs' parent's names and they were from North Carolina and he was born in Ky he went on to missouri and then just across the line into Arkansas, but I don't know if his parents stayed in Ky where he was born or went out to Missouri and Arkansas as my Joseph Dobbs did. This wrong info with these two Joseph Dobbs' families happen perhaps because someone didn't know what they were doing, but I have been searching to see if some of these Dobbs' I've read about from around the same parts may be related to my Joseph Dobbs and may know his parent' name. You can email me or if you think you don't have any more thoughts on this that will be fine. I am so new, I really don't know but only the very basics of this computer and researching. By email I may feel more comfortable because I can say what I want and it won't have to be taking up space on the page I am on now, and I don't know the meaning of some words. Like just below it has a box to check and it says Send me an alert when anyone replies to this thread. Yes, I would want to know when someone replies, but, I don't know what is a thread. Sorry but I have a lot to learn and I have a lot of other things I have to do and can't stop and call anyone to tell me the ans to lots of dif things. Bonnie
Re: Dobbs Book and Family Page

Hello, I am searching for Joseph Dobbs born 1820 in Kentucky and death date unknown but most likely died in Arkansas. Searching also for his parent's names that were from North Carolina. His spouse Sarah Ann Huckaby born 1824 in Tennessee death unknown but most likely in Arkansas. Sarah Ann Huckaby's parents were John Huckaby (born 1805 in Tennessee; death 1860 in Carroll Co Arkansas) married Elizabeth Roseberry (born 1807? in Hawkins Co, Tennessee; death abt 1861 in Carroll Co Arkansas. Children: Sarah Ann (see above - was my GG grandmother - she was mother of my G Grandmother, Caroline Elizabeth (Dobbs) Smith - the next child: Ishom (married a Sarah), Pearson (married a Martha), George, John R., Rachel, Alsina, Betty, Arabetty, Louisa Jane. I believe this information to be correct. Joseph Dobbs and Sarah Ann Huckaby (my GG Grandparent's children: 9 children: John Chesley Dobbs b. 1843 in Mo: Caroline Elizabeth Dobbs (my G. Grandmother) b. Feb 1845 Mo: Orleana Catherine Dobbs (the one you are writing about) b. Jan 1847 in Mo. death Aug 18, 1914 in Muldrow, Okla. married 1st James Robbins 1861 - married 2nd Dec 25, 1863 to Jasper Newton Townzen. Next child: William J. Dobbs b. Aug 26, 1848 in Mo. death Jun 11, 1921 in Whitefield Okla. Next child: Ishom Dobbs b. 1859 in Mo: Next child: J.R. Dobbs b. 1851 in Ark: Next child: Madison Dobbs b. 1855 in Mo: Next child: Saraphina Dobbs b. 1857 in Ark: and the last child: George Albert "Doc" Dobbs b. 1859 Carroll Co Ark. So I have here that Sarah Ann Huckaby was the daughter of John "Buck" Huckaby and Elizabeth Roseberry and Sarah Ann Huckaby was the mother of Orleana Catherine Dobbs. This has been some time now since you wrote and I am actually new at researching. I started a year ago this past Feb. I am not a member of the Mormon Church, but I went there for help getting started. My name is Bonnie and my email address is caplalko@yahoo.com feel free to email me, I will try and explain what I can. Bonnie P.S Please, if any of this information is in your book write to me (Bonnie) at caplalko@yahoo.com also.

Hello Melba,

I haven't heard from you in regards to having one of your son's do the DNA test. Please do try. We have had a confirmation that a descendant of Lott is also a match to my husband, who is a descendant of Fortunatus N. We also have a confirmed match between a descendant of Silas. Just today, we had another 12 point match with a believed descendant of David in Bedford County, TN.

Again, you can join our discussion group by contacting Stan Bevers at: scbevers@comcast.net. Your son would do the Y37 test through the Family Tree website. If you need that address again, let me know.

We really would love to know how Jeremiah is connected. I have recently received information that he, William and James were brothers and sons of Fortunatus II. Not sure if true, that is why your son's testing would be greatly appreciated by all Dobbs.

Passing on our lineage to our children and grandchildren is a wonderful gift.

Trust one of your son's would be willing.

Melba, you may contact me at: jandobbs@comcast.net

Thank you.

Melba,
My husband is Bruce descendant of Fortunatus N. born in 1805 in GA, believed to be the descendant of Fortunatus I. I have been doing research in Bedford County, TN and seemed to have found many confirmed relationships. Your Jeremiah was on several documents for William, but was not a son. He also was on a document with Linsey(grandson to Wm.)along with himself, & WM. It is now believed that Jeremiah is William's brother and Fortunatus II was their father. I have much more info. My question is, I read you have been in contact with Stan Bevers who is heading up the Dobbs Discussion group, that I am a part of as well as RL GUffin, Mike Debacker, many other researchers. We also have the male Dobbs DNA Project. I would hope you will join our Discussion Group by contacting Stan at: scbevers@comcast.net to sign up for the group. I have just written a descendant of Linsey asking if she has any male descendants who would be willing to participate in our group for DNA and I am asking the same of you. My husband has tested, along with two descendants of Lott, Silas, Nathaniel, Sr. descendants. We are beginning to put the Dobbs family together and I believe Jeremiah was a son to Fortunatus, Jr and a male descendant of his would prove the connection with my husband, descendant of Fortunatus I, believed through Nathaniel, Rev. War Patriot. Please let me know - I have so much more info on Bedford I can forward and would love to hear more of Jeremiah. By the way DNA is simple. Sign up through Family Tree at WWW.ftdna.com/public/dobbs for the Y37 test. They send a kit, the male swabs the inside of his mouth three times in one day, the kit is sent back in a self-address and pre-stamped envelope and results in about six weeks.

Thank you,

Jan Dobbs

Melba,

Thank you so much for responding and I am sorry about your husband, but by doing this DNA and find out his ancestors; you are keeping his legacy alive. That is what I started to do for my children in find out about the Dobbs family and I am thrilled with all the research found and now the DNA to confirm relatives and ancestry. Either of your sons could, absolutely, take the test since their last name is Dobbs, that is all that is required. If you have any questions, please contact Stan at scbevers@comcast.net and he would love to talk with you or your sons about the test. Again, my husband Bruce was the first to take the DNA test and it is so very simple and in six weeks, we will know if Bruce and one of your sons are connected through DNA and then that would mean Fortunatus is definitely a connection! Again, we still have not found documents to confirm the decendancy of Fortunatus I, but as we continue to put the puzzle together, perhaps we will. If I did not list the site to go to for the test, it is www.ftdna.com/public/dobbs. Your sons would need to take the Y37 test - this gives the best results. Again, please join our discussion group by contacting Stan. We go back and forth with information. We recently have been talking about Bedford County, TN.

So anxious to have one of your sons take the test!!!

You may contact me directly at: jandobbs@comcast.net

Jan Dobbs

Thomas French Dobbs Sr was my great grandfather (granddaddy). His wife's name was Betty Lloyd (Nana). They had two daughters together: Suzanne Betty and Tommy Tucker in addition to your father, Uncle Bud. Also, Thomas French Dobbs Sr's parents where Claude B Dobbs (CB) and Leota Dobbs. If you can get into my tree I do have Nana and Granddaddy's DOB & DOD if you need it.

I'm sorry that I don't have any real info for you, but I do know that I have some Dobbs family that lived in Cherokee county Georgia in the 1840-present--my line came originally from Union County S.C. (parts of that had been N.C. at one time) This Dobbs family had several Josephs in it--they spelled their name Dabbs until they came to Georgia--don't know when and why they changed. Hopefully this might be a clue for you and not just something else to confuse you.

Cathy Chapman
Marietta, Georgia

The reason the Dobbs were in the U.S. was due to the fact that Arthur Dobbs was Governor of North Carolina 1754-65.
Information about the large collection of Dobbs archival material in the Northern Ireland Public record Office is listed (with Dobbs gravestone inscriptions) in "Old Families of Carrickfergus & Ballynure" published by the Ulster Historical Foundation. They have a web site.
