I am a decendant of William C. SMITH b. Sep 22, 1831 somewhere in TN. One of his sons, William Jerry Walter SMITH B. 21 Dec 1861 in Calhoun Co. AR had a daughter by his 2nd wife Jennie. This child, Mildred Menelda Smith married a William Foster Dobson; I believe in OK. She dies soon after her son Billy Jack is born somewhere around Monahans, TX, and William Foster Dobson remarries. I am interested in this family line; where is Mildred Manelda (Smith) Dobson buried and who did William Foster marry after Mildred died.

Hi Merlene,
It is the same information I previously told you about - learning that Mary "Vinyard" was the same as Mary Dobson, wife of John Dobson. She sold a parcel of bounty land in Missouri that was given to John for his service in the War of 1812 as a private in McAfee's Company, Mercer County, Kentucky. She was listed on the deed as Mary Vinyard, former widow of John Dobson.

I've checked about all I can check from that. There were many, many Dobsons who moved from Virginia to Kentucky, but I have't been able to identify him with any family.

There was one additional land abstract I found for John:
"May 17, 1817 - ...I John DOBSON of the state of Kentucky and county of Allen...appoint Job DEAN of the state aforesaid and county Marconmy(?)..attorney...to receive...paymaster...pay...sum of $65 it being the valuation of a certain Bay mare lost of me near the border of Canada...private in Robert McALECs (McAfee's) Company (Captain of mounted militia...Signed: John DOBSON pg 159

In checking McAfee's company, their fighting was on the border of Canada so I feel certain it is our John.

I keep putting queries out on the web hoping some of those many Dobsons are out there and will see it.

Here is a Neely Dobson in my family tree whose father was Joseph. Here is the information I have. There was a Neely Joseph Dobson and his son Neely Robert Dobson.

Neely Joseph Dobson born in Georgia June 21, 1821 to Joseph and Sarah Dobson. He moved to Texas before the Civil War. He married Lucilla Brown on Nov. 6, 1852. There children were Neely Robert, Todd and Lula. They lived in Coldspring Texas.

Neely Robert, son of Neely Joseph Dobson was born 1866 in Coldspring Texas. His wife was Martha Rebecca Dobson, born in 1870. He died in 1947.

I am not sure if these are the same Neely Dobsons you are looking for or not.

Bonnie Dobson Andersen

There are several Henry Dobson's in my family tree, starting with Henry L., Henry Roe, Henry Joe and Henry Joe, Jr. Henry Joe Dobson, Jr. studied music at Jacksonville State University in Alabama where he graduated in 1968 and was an assistant band directorat Calhoun High School in Calhoun GA. I do not have any information on him after 1968. So I do not who he married or if he had children.

I will do some more research and get back with you if I found out anything.

I hope by now you have gotten the answers you are looking for as I see this was posted a number of years ago.

If this is the Henry Joe, Jr that was your Grandfather, I would be interested in completing this branch of the Dobson Family tree.

Bonnie Dobson Andersen

Hello fellow Dobson,

I was born Bonnie Mae Dobson, however my married name is now Andersen. I have a Dobson Family Tree if you are interested in checking it out.

The earlist ancestry we can find in this country dates back to Joseph Dobson (do not have a middle name)born May 7, 1787 in North Carolina, not sure what area. However there is a Dobson, North Carolina, not sure if you are aware of this. Not sure if our Dobsons came from this area or not. More research to do. Dobson, NC is just off Interstate 77.

62, married with 3 grown sons, 40, 38 and 37. Born in Calhoun, Gordon County Georgia to Grover Dobson, whose father was Grover Cleveland Dobson. My great great great Grandmother came over from Scotland in the 1800s Cathleen McLean or MacLaine. One of my mother's grandfather was a Buchanan. So there are Scotish roots as well. Looking up Scotish names, I found out Dobson could be Scottish from the Roberson Clan, are you aware of this. Not sure how that would be on the English side.

I would be very interested to hear back from you and find out about your Dobson family tree.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Bonnie Dobson Andersen

Hi there

I am looking for any Dobsons who might be related to my family, who are now based in Scotland. My gt gt grandfather came over to Scotland from County Armagh in 1889 to work in the coal industry and married a Mary Jane Adams. Their son, William was my gt grandfather and his son, also William was my grandfather. Sadly last year we lost our father also William and I made a promise to him that I would try and research further with my Dobson ancestry. My gt gt grt grandparents were also Irish and were William Dobson and Mary Jane Gold (or Gould). Any help would be fantastic. Thank you. Elizabeth Dobson

Dobsons in Ritzville Washington

Its such a long story it hard to know where to start. My grandad Leslie Charles Dobson b1927 married my nan Maureen McCullock in 1946 when they were only teenagers. They had 3 children. David, Paul (my dad) and John Dobson. David died as a baby and John died 1971. Leslie disapeared in 1953. After years of searching and finding nothing I came accross details on this site of him moving to Ritzville Washington but sadly I found it too late and he had died 6 weeks earlier 1st May 2009. I tried to contact his family but had not luck. If any relatives are reading this, please please get in touch. We just want to know what happend to him, what he looked like and if I have aunties, uncles and cousins I have never met. xx

Tyler,

I have found a little more out.

From my research...

Charles G (b.1812) son of
William M. Dobson (1789-1865, m. Elizabeth Dyer) son of
Joseph Dobson (1760-1813, m. Elizabeth Betty Matthews).

I still must confirm these, but I believe they are correct.

I also believe the Joseph Dobson (b.1760) is the same as Roger Kammerer mentions in his post here: http://genforum.genealogy.com/ky/messages/19475.html

Please post (or message me) if you have information to share.

Thanks,

Joseph Dobson

Hi Dobsons! I am searching for my birth mother Valerie Dobson born 2/1/1947 in Warrington. Fathers name was Robert Dobson and her mother was Constance Fogg. I cant seem to find out much more. Robert Dobson remarried as Constance died quite young from TB. Her grandmother was possibly a Lawton?

Thanks
Mandy
