According to my family records, Elizabeth Dickensheets did marry Samuel Dudderar. They had a son, Conrad who was born 4/24/1793 and died 2/29/1864. Conrad married Catherine Ruffner, born 11/13/1797 and died 3/20/1864. They had a daughter, Margaret who married Edmund Hiatt. Hope this is helpful.

Hello,

Do you have a copy of the text from the book you mentioned which verifies the origin of Georg and Veronica? Could I have a copy of the text, either in electronic transcript or hard copy?

I have seen alternate claims for the maiden name of Veronica, the wife of Georg Philip Dodderer; her name has been claimed to be Veronica Schleipfer or Veronica Bucher. Which of these is correct?

Many thanks for you help. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Scott

Hi Janice,
Thanks for all the information from your files. I appreciate your help.
Do you have any proof that Catherine Dickensheets (mother of Elizabeth) and Conrad D. Dudderer (father of Samuel) were brother and sister? That would make Elizabeth and Samuel first cousins. Who was the parents of Catherine and Conrad D.? I can't seem to fit Catherine and Conrad into any of the Dudderer lines. I have seen many references on the web that Catherine Dickensheets was a Dudderer but no one has proof of that.
Carleene

Hi Janice,

I printed off both of your messages and have spent the past day and a half going over all my Dudderer infromation. I can not locate in any files a Catherine Dudderer (abt. 1736-after 1814) in any of the family lines. There are a couple of Dudderer homepages and I also have material from a Dudderer family historian. Nothing !!! Now I am wondering if the statement by Rev. Wm. B. Duttera in his book page 41 referring to Elizabeth and Samuel as cousins might be used "loosely" perhaps second or third cousins (rather than first cousins). Or might Margaret Pennebecker and Catherine be sisters. Margaret marrying Conrad and Catherine marrying William Dickensheets. Have'nt checked any Pennebecker families yet. Want to do that and see what I can find.

I am just not "comfortable" in giving my Catherine the maiden name of Dudderer. I know it appears over and over on the web but no one can provide any proof. What do you think?

Carleene

I know quite a bit about this line. I have a website with a lot of info posted on them. George and Veronica are from an area of Germany called Gemmingen. This info is from the book 'Eighteenth Century Emigrants-The Northern Kraichgau' on page 90 and 91. The had six children, possibly seven. Michael; Hieronimus [Jerome]; Barbara; Bernard; Conrad. Anna Elizabeth, born December 25, 1709 married first Michael Zimmerman and second Jacob Kurr.
Janice svazmacjake3@juno.com

Dodderer/Dotterer/etc.

Erin,
I have searched this family for quite a while now and have found at least 50 different ways the name is spelled. Someday I should post them, I guess! The Dotterers were an early prominent family in Berks and Montgomery counties in PA as well as in Frederick Co., MD. I have a Michael Tetherow/Totherow/Detherow (etc.) inOhio by 1790 whom I suspect is from this family but have not been able to document it in any way. But the names you mention are pretty well covered in Montgomery County, PA, history. Just search on every imaginable spelling variant of the name (say it with a German accent and you'll think of lots of them.) Look in sites where the Palatines (German immigrants to America in the early to mid 1700s) and you should be able to find stuff. But all the different spellings can drive you crazy--and become very discouraging.
Joan Olsson

Dodderer(s) and Dronenberg(s)

My ancestors, Tranberg/Dronenberg and Dutterer/Dudderer/Dutrow/Dotterer were from Fredrick, Mariland.
I have traced Frecrich Ambrosis Tranberg to the ship Winter Galley which came from Amsterdam around 1735. He lived in Pennsylvania. The Tranberg (Sweedish - German Palitanate) name evolved to Dronenberg. There is a suspicion that Tranberg was involved with cigar sales/comapnies in Hanover, but no facts. The Dronenbergs and Dudderers married, knew each other and lived in and around Fredrick, Maryland. Mary Ann Madery (Swiss?)married Jacob Dronenberg. His son Henry married Eve Matilda Dutterer. Thier sons, two of my recent ancestors, were brothers, one in the Confederate Calvery (William), the other (Vernon) in the Yankee Calvery. They both finaly lived in Missouri but lived at Tuscorara, MD as children. I found the house they lived in a field near Tuscorara, by the Patomic and also found a letter dated before the civil war from a Dudderer to his mother. Vernon Dronenberg was with elements of Custers 7th calvery at the Little Big Horn and later deserted and got a pension as a civil war veteran (no computers then!).We are most probably related.
