I have 4 children for Alfred and Amanda: Clarence b 1886 who married Gertude and had 7 children. Olive b 1889 and married three times and had 2 children (Marion and Mildred).
Ella b 1895 and Florence b 1899. Do you have any information on Olive's children or on Ella or Florence? Which child is your ancestor?

Do you have any additional info on Albert Dodge? I think he might be my g-great grandfather. My Albert was married to Maryanne Blanchard and had a daughter named Sarah Anne (she went by Sadie) in 1871. He died in 1911 in VT.

I was going through my Harvey pictures and found an old picture of 3 women. I had purchased this picture thinking that it may be one of my Harvey's, however, that is not the case. It is of 3 women, back is labeled Mrs.Storms, Bertha Harvey, Daisy Dodge. The man I purchased this from was from Alabama, but the picture could be from anywhere. The picture looks to be from about 1900 or so, give or take a few... I am looking to find this card's family.

I am searching for information on a line of Hispanic Dodges that originated in the 1850's in Seboyeta/Cebolleta, New Mexico. Enrique (Henry) Deuch (Dodge) is listed as the decesed father of Roman Deuch (Dodge) in 1876 marriage. Records indicate that Roman was born in Seboyeta in about 1852. I have Henry L. Dodge in the 1850 census in Seboyeta as a merchant. It was a military post at the time. I am wondering about a possible connection to Henry Lafeyette Dodge. Any ideas? The family went on to settle in the Santa Rosa area. An old family story is that a surveyor came thru and liked the area, went back to get his sister and brother and returned to the area and married a Hispanic woman. Would appreciate any info. Besides the name Henry, the name J. Nolan Dodge has been mentioned.

Hi,

I am a descendant of the Jefferson Co (Rodman) Dodges. Sylvester Dodge, b. 1788 (elsewhere), d. 1857 at Rodman. He was a poor-master and farmer. He married Margaret McChesney. (She was the daughter of John and Abigail (Stevens) McChesney.

There is a great deal of information about this family on the Dodge Family website, and a new (and better) Dodge Family Genealogy book just published.

I'd be happy to answer any questions, but I don't know of a Mary Hewitt living with them. Was she in the census?

She doesn't appear to have married into this family from my records. Was she a servant? Could she have been related to the McChesneys?

Are there other Hewetts in the area?

Sylvester Dodge's own grandfather was taken in and raised by someone else when he was about 2 yrs. old and his father had died. Perhaps he is repaying the obligation.

NOt too much all I have is his first name which is Jack, I asked my mom about the rest but her nor her two brothers knew any of the vitals. sorry about that. He passed away before I was born which was 1982. My dad seems to think he passed away in either 1979 or 1980.

Or are the two spouses the same person? The Southampton, NY 1850 census has Niobe b1790 in CT but her death record from the Norwich city hall has her being born 1793 in Block Island, RI. This couple is in my ancestry as well. I have biography pages for them at my website, although they are currently limited to vital records information. Given that John's death is recorded at the North Beverly Congregational Church (Second Congregational of Beverly), he is undoubtedly buried there. There is a foot and headstone in the cemetery that probably are his. The footstone says Capt. J. Dodge, but it looks like a modern inscription in an old style of carving done with a dremel tool. I would need to see it in person to confirm this. The two stones are of different materials (sandstone and slate) which would not have been done originally, so this supports the idea that things have been tampered with there. I haven't seen any information about Sarah's death or burial, leaving me to assume she is buried next to John. He died in 1723 (modern style of dating - double dated 1722/1723 in the records to indicate the Old and New Style of month arrangements), and given how early in the year it was, his age at death puts his birth year most likely in 1635.

I recently was fortunate to visit Dodge Row Cemetery in Beverly, Massachusetts. A kind resident of the area said the Smithsonian has reassembled an early DODGE family homestead in D.C. - previously the house had been bundled and held in storage. Does someone have more details to share and perhaps a photo?

I descend from Richard (the immigrant) > Samuel & Mary (Parker) Dodge > Anne (Dodge) Edwards & John Edwards.

I'm responding to my own query: There is a DODGE homestead at the Smithsonian in an exhibit called "Within These Walls". Until 1963 the house stood at 16 Elm Street in Ipswich, MA. - not Beverly. A real daughter of the Revolution

Like a little child going to sleep on its mother’s breast, the life of Mrs. Amelia Ann Southard of this city, a “real Daughter” of the American Revolution and a member of Martha Pitkin Chapter, DAR, of Sandusky, went out Sunday morning at 7:45 o’clock at the home of her grandson, Frank Crandall, East League Street, where she had been residing for the past year or more and where she had had the tenderest care from both Mr. and Mrs. Crandall. She was taken ill last January with pneumonia, from which she never fully recovered, and for the past six weeks had been confined to her bed, much of the time in a semi-conscious condition.

The Reflector, on May 21, published a somewhat lengthy sketch of Mrs. Southard’s life, written by Mrs. Gertrude B. Williams of this city, a portion of which is here with reproduced.

Amelia Dodge Southard was born March 23, 1823 at Colebrooke, Coos County, N.H. She is the daughter of Brewer Doge and his wife, Anna Brainard. Her father served in Captain Daniel Carlisle’s company of Colonel Timoty Dedell’s regiment. The regiment was raised at Westmoreland, N.H. June 20, 1776 and served during the Revolutionary War. Brewer Dodge died at Colebrook in December, 1826. In 1828, Mrs. Dodge’s brother, John Branard, a prominent resident of Milan, O., who had served in the war of 1812, visited at his old home in New Hompshire. His sister, Amelia’s mother, decided to return with him to the “Western Reserve of Ohio,” which was then nearly an unbroken wilderness.

Mrs. Southard has a vivid recollection of this long, tedious journey in October of 1828. A hard ride by stage to Whitehall N.H., and a long trim in a canal boat to Buffalo, N.Y., where, after several days of waiting, they embarked on the schooner Louise Jenkins. There were no steamers in those days. The trip was a very severe one owing to storms and wind. Finally, after ten days Sandusky City was sighted, just a hamlet in the woods. There were no docks either at Huron or Sandusky, and passengers were landed a few at a time in a small boat. The bay was very rough and landing was very disagreeable...At the age of fifteen she was married to Levi Fletcher, who died in 1884. The young couple went at once to housekeeping at Camden, in a little log cabin on he banks of the Black River in an almost unbroken wilderness, the nearest neighbor being one-half mile away. ...Five years later, after Amerlia had become the mother of two bright children, she was determined to pursue her studies, as her opportunities for learning had been so very limited. Leaving the little ones thought the day in the care of her mother, this ambitious woman attended a select school, working faster and harder out of school hours that nothing at home should suffer neglect. She has never regretted this step, but only a woman of indomitable will could have accomplished what she did. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher built up a fine home, which was the center of benevolence and hospitality. They were very kind Christian people. Their five children preceded them to the other world.

In 1888 she was again married to WIllard J. Souhard, who died in 1902. During the late years of her life, through no fault of hers, she met with reverses and trials which would have killed a less courageous woman. Today she is brighter mentally than many a woman of fifty. Her life has been a very beautiful one. She has grandchildren living and is at present taking her home with a granddaughter, Mrs. Ewell at Monroeville.

Question, I know you said it stated on his death certificate that Edward was born in IN but on the census forms Oliver lists the birthplace of his father as New York, I do not know which one to go by.

This is my great great grandpa. He was the father to my great grandpa William Howard Dodge, who fathered my grandmother Ina Marie Dodge (Luman) who mothered my mom Debra Lynn Duncan, who had me Monica Charis (Hoegsted) I put married names in Parentheses. My grandmother was remarried her first married name was Duncan.

I am a descendant of Elisha Dodge of Indiana. I am searching for Darcus Mills Dodge, wife of David Dodge. Do you know of her birth and/or death date and place of death? I believe she was living in so. Indiana in 1850 at age 60, with 4 younger male Dodge's. Thanks. Any help is appreciated.
