The Mary Peters Ringo diary of her trip across the great plains in 1864 is in volume V and includes a forward and conclusion by her daughter Mattie Bell Cushing. I have to admit that reading this diary brought tears to my eyes. Mary Peters Ringo was quite a woman.

Shelia, The Ringo Family History reflects Martin Ringo married Mary Peters on 9-5-1848 in Clay Co, MO. Mary Peters, born 11-13-1826 in MO. she was dau of John R Peters and Frances A Simms. Martin Ringo served in the Mexican War, enlisting on 6-7-1846 at Fort Levenworth, KS, He was discharged on 6-7-1847 and moved to MO where he married Mary Peters. They moved to Washington, Wayne Co, Ind in 1850, where they had 5 children. They later moved to Gallatin, Daviess Co, MO. In 1864 they started out for California by wagon train from Liberty, MO. Martin Ringo was accidentally killed on this trip on 7-30-1864 near Deer Creek, WY. Mary Peters-Ringo continued on to San Jose, CA, where their daughters taught school for many years. Their children were:

John Peters Ringo, b. 5-3-1850 (Johnny Ringo, the gunfighter)
Martin Albert Ringo, b. 1-28-1854
Fanny Fern Ringo, 7-20-1857
Mary Enna Ringo, b. 5-2-1860
Mattie Bell Ringo, b. 4-28-1862

Mary Peters' sister, Augusta (Gus) Peters, married Colonel Celeman Younger, uncle of Cole Younger & his brothers, who also got into the outlaw business as Johnny Ringo did. Mary Peters Uncle Benjamin Simms, married the widowed mother, Zerelda Cole James, of Jesse and Frank James, the train robbers. All of these families where considered worthy, respectable, even distinguished members. Even Johnny Ringo's own uncle, Daniel Ringo, was Chief Justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court. The Mary Peters Ringo diary mentions her brothers and sisters that is too much for this small space. Jim Ringo
Hello distance cousin. We are kin to some very intersting folks. The outlaw - Johnny Ringo. Ringo's are Dutch. Grandma Peters, Lake Ada Field - English. In 1700's Mr. Field came to America from England and landed in either NC or SC and had a plantation. I'm in NC so I need to review my records and get my facts correct. I plan on putting together a DVD of family photos to share with all of your mother's cousin Peters so if you have any to share please email them to me with information. I will email you some in the meantime.

Take care.

Shelia W.

If not, let me know your email address and I'll email you a copy of a family picture that has everyone except Aunt Marie who wasn't born yet when the picture was taken.
Hi,
Kendall Jenkins is a collateral relative of mine. His father was Earl T. Jenkins, son of William H. Jenkins and Aristene Dodson who were married about 1873. I have found this family in the census in Middlebury, Wyoming Co, NY from 1900 through 1930. I am related through Earl T. Jenkins' wife, Fanny Squires. Fanny and Earl's son, Kendall Jenkins, was also known as William K. Jenkins, born about 1903. In the 1910 census he is named "William K" (age 7) and in the 1920 census he is named "Kendall W" (age 16).
Mary

I have a Kavavaughh W Dodson, son of Newton Columbus Dodson born about
1859, probably in Butler Cnty Mo. married 23 mar 1879 in Randolph Cnty Mo
to Mattie D Williams. He was a Methodist Minister and moved his family to
Louisiana. They had a daughter and at least 2 sons. The daughter is listed
as Lula Dodson. No dates. This is according to the 2 volume set "the
Dodson/Dotson Family of North Farnham Parish, Richmond County Virginia by
Williams and Lucas. These books are about as good as it gets for Dodson
history except for all the info that has come to light since their
printing.
this doesn't exactly fit you person but there could have been more
marriages and more children. This is not in my line as far as I know.

Carol Dodson Porter
I am not working directly on them, but I do have knowledge of the Dodson end as Thomas was a 5th cousin.

Thomas's parents were George (1773-1842) and Martha Lockhart (1773-1848) Dodson

George's parents were George (1737-1835) and Elizabeth (1740-??) ?? Dodson

George's parents were George (1702-abt 1740) and Margaret Dagord (1708-??) ?? Dodson

George's parents were Thomas (1681-1749) and Mary Durham (1686-1740) Dodson

Thomas's parents were Charles (1649-1705) and Anne Elmore (1654-1702) Dodson

Interestingly enough Henry Tuggle Dodson is named after another of my ancestors, my 5th great grandfather Henry Tuggle, who was a minister in Wayne Co. Ironically, Henry Tuggle was the ancestor of my paternal grandmother and Charles Dodson was the ancestor of my paternal grandfather.

Cambell Dodson of Pittsylvania Co., VA

Cambell/Campbell Dodson married Elizabeth Gammon in 1832. They had a boy and a girl. I traced Cambell thru 1837 on the Pittsylvania County tax lists. In 1840 the two Dodson children lived with their grandfather, Presley Gammon. Cambell and Elizabeth were nowhere to be found.

Two possibilities: (1) Both died and Elizabeth’s grandfather took in the children. (2) Elizabeth died and Cambell left the area, leaving the children behind.

Is anyone out there connected to Cambell Dodson or his son William E. (ca 1837-1884)? William died of fever in Pittsylvania County. He married Martha Callahan.

I’ve been trying to solve this riddle for 30 years and I am convinced the answer cannot be found in Pittsylvania County. My grandmother was a daughter of William E. Dodson.
Sorry i didn't get back to you sooner. I don't know Robert B Dotson but he is interesting. I have a strong feeling that he was related to my GG grandfather Samson Dotson and may well have been the reason that Sampson moved from TN to crawford Co in the late 1840's. email (shijam@suddenlink.net)
