My gggg grandfather was Levy Derrow, also known as Levien Doerries or Doerge(s). I believe the "Doerrie(s)" spelling was pronounced "Derr-ee" but I've always wondered how the two spellings could be related, since the "g" in "Doerge" would seemingly give the name a very different pronunciation. How do you and yours pronounce your last name? Is it with a hard "g" (as in "good") or a soft "g" (as in "George")?
Her father was Louis Doerge.
The lived in a small village "Pinneberg", which is a little north-east of Hamburg.

I don't know whether there is a link but it is worth to have a look on it.

Can you find out from where they came from?

Check the town of Meinersen in Germany. It is located a few miles east of Hanover.

My gggrandfather was Christopher Derges (spelling in Michigan census). The census has him listed as being from Hanover.

I found his ship he came over on and his name is Christian Doerges and his wife is Christiana. The ship's records says that he is from Meinersen.

Update: I have recently discovered that my GGF Charles and his family came from Hanover, Germany and his wife Mina's family (Schmid) came from Weidenburg, Germany. One of Charles' possible brothers settled in Ohio, Henry, as he is listed in the 1920 census as being from Hanover also. Charles arrived in the US in 1888, Mina in 1889, and Henry in 1881.

Trying to find links from my past. My mom told me my GGF (Charles Frederick Doerge-b 4/28/1858) came to America in the 1890's with his two brothers (names unknown- but supposed to have moved west). Charles married Mina Schmid (who also arrived in the same time period-b 10/21/1868). Charles' father was Gottlieb Doerge, mother was Johanna Schinkle. Mina's parents were Jacob Schmid and Fredrika (?). Any of these names ring a bell?? Thanks for your time!!

Charlie
I am searching for information on a Doerge family in Alberta. All I have is a few names and location, and was wondering if theymight be connected to your family. They are:
Olga b. 10-18-1919 (abt)
Edith
Roberta (twin)
George
Lewis
Albert
I believe they were siblings and all born in Alberta, probably Medicine Hat or Lethbridge area. Olga married George Heather, do not know when or where. Thanks.

Actually Walter, my grandfather passed on in 1996, not 1997 and Ida (my grandmother) passed on 12-11-95 not in 1996. If you need more info let me know. My mom is Martha Lorraine Doerge (Reinerd). We have a huge genealogical tree at home with lots of names, birth dates etc. My Uncle Donnie was working on this until his death until Jan 2 1994.

Hi,

sorry, but we have no special genealogic information for you. There are some members of our family branch which went to USA. But at this moment we have no clear knowledge about.
Meanwhile we are just constructing a Family DOERGE - Website at www.wdoerge.de. Maybe, there will be some information later.

Have a good year 2002, you will hear from us
Werner

I believe the actual name of Walter was Walter Lee Doerge he was born 2-27-1915. He died on 7-27-1997. He married Ida Mae Pierce. She was born 10-4-07 or 08 and died on 12-11-96. Her mothers name was Ahrends-we believe her first name was Agasta. Walter and Ida had six children: Robert Lee, Walter Bernard, Charles Lindell, Martha Lorraine, Julia Caterine and Donald P.(who has now passed on)

Any one with any info that can go back past Walter would be great.
