DAVENPORT, Iowa - Betty F. Doering, 83, of Davenport, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at her home.

Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, Davenport.

Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport.

Betty Fern Axtell was born on May 5, 1924 in Bayfield, the daughter of Roy and Maude (Clevenger) Axtell.

She married Francis M. O’Haver on June 21, 1941; he preceded her in death in 1981.

She then married Lester Doering on May 16, 1987, in Davenport.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Davenport, also Tops Weight Loss, Davenport.

A fond memory of Lester and Betty was their trip to the Holy Land together.

She enjoyed roller skating into her 70s.

She worked at Good Samaritan Care Center, Davenport, and as a nurse’s aide at the Kahl Nursing Home. She also worked at Thatcher Glass in Muscatine, as a librarian in Walcott and an office assistant for Doering Rental.

Survivors include her husband, Lester, Davenport; daughters, Nancy Lorraine Baney, Davenport, and Kathleen Marie (Bill) Lewis, Riverside; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Leo Axtell, Letts, and two sisters, Mary Saultz and Violet Coulter, both of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Mahlon, Cleo, Thomas, Harold, Raymond; two sisters, Dorothy Schock and Thelma Bailey, and one daughter, Shirley Ann Norris.

She is remembered by a special friend and caregiver, Dawn, who helped with her care since 2005.

My grandmother was Mattie Elizabeth Sprinkel nee Bond. She and my grandfather, Samuel also lived in Glen Burnie. Like I previously mentioned your grandmother attended my grandmother funeral. I have her signature on the funeral guest book. I don't know how to make a connection with your grandmother and mine other than perhaps they were neighbors or friends at their church.

parents- William and Johanna
m. Augusta Holz(Holtz)(Nov 9, 1861) on Nov 18, 1883 in Brandenburg Province, Germany. Her parents were William and Ernestine Holz(Holtz)
A brother Julius Doering lived in North Dakota.
Julius married Lousie(Lizzie) they had Otto(1889), Anna(1890),(these born in Germany),(the next born in Wisconsin), Emma(1896), Fred(1898), Martha(1901), and Paul(1902).

They had many children. Gustav and Lena born in Germany.
More children were born in Germany but, I do not have
their names.
Born in America were Helmuth, Paul and Edward.

Helmuth married Ella Adler and had Evelyn June Doering and Marvin George Doering.
Evelyn is my Grandmother.

I am looking for anyone with any kind of information that can help with my search

My Grandfather Charles Doering came from Darmstadt in 1880 lived in Pittsburgh until death in 1939 and his brother John came from Darmstadt in 1882 and lived in Baltimore Maryland. There was also a 3rd brother, Conrad, still reserching him. Do you think they could be related to your Doering's?

I am looking through it closely to try to possibly connect Carl August Döring who emigrated from Germany to Australia in 1881 with his European ancestors (presently not known). If anyone can help, it would be appreciated. Although I intend to write this up as a separate query, I wanted to share this information and link here.

IRMA FAYE DOERING passed away June 1 at her home in Colton following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 2, 1920 in Herington, KS. She, along with her late husband, Harold, was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist church all her life. She will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched. Irma Faye is survived her sister, Vera Casey of Granada Hills; son, Herman of Boise, ID; her daughter, Ned-louise Jaggers, of Colton; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Private memorial services are pending at Monticeto Memorial Park, Colton.

My G-G-G grandfather, Henry Doering, did have a son named George. But, based on the birthdate I have for hime it doesn't sound like the same person that you are speaking of. The George Doering in my tree was married to a woman named Ida Hufeld.

I would like to know more about the ancestors of Valentine Heinz of Kickapoo IL. "Wally" was born in Kickapoo Illinois in 1884 & died in 1922. He was married to Mary Ann "Mayme" Kirchgessner in 1907. She was born in 1887 and died in 1932. Their children were Marie and Andrew. Marie lived 1909 - 2006 and was married to Benjamin Doering (born 1904 - 1992). Andrew "Bud" Heinz lived 1911 - 1998 and was married to Margaret Bienemann (born 1913-1966).

John F. Miller born 1840 in Germany. Served as a blacksmith in the 11th Illinois Regiment of the Illinois Cavalry - Civil War. Married Irene Toland of Pennsylvania(born 1845 - 1926) in 1865. They resided in Kickapoo Illinois. They had several children: Oscar, Stephen, William, Frank, John, James, Clara, Charles, Laura, and Flora.

I have Doerings in my tree that are married to Ellers. I also found the name Schlager in my tree as well. Here are a couple examples:
John Eller 1883 - 1964 m to Elvina Doering 1882 - 1963

John Schlager 1896 - 1960 m to Esther Doering 1905-1953. Children: Betty, John, Richard.

I don't know for sure. Her father was Henry Doering and he resided primarily in East Peoria, Illinois and is buried there. I would guess that she would have been born in East Peoria, IL.

Sorry, I haven't been back to this thread for awhile. Actually, I have been hoping for help with that exact question. Henry was born in Hesse Darmstadt Germany. He immigrated in 1852. He stayed in New York for 6 months and moved on to St. Louis. I'm not sure how long he stayed there, but he eventually moved to East Peoria IL.

It seemed like you may have been interested in Elvina Doering. The information I have about her is that she was first married to a man by the name of Charles Faust. Her second marriage was to John Eller.

I don't know if I'll be any help at all b/c all the Doerings that I am related to seem to have come straight from Germany & settled in Illinois. It's possible though, that my family line is related to those that I have seen elsewhere. So, if you have any information that your Doering line originated from Hesse Darmstadt Germany, then there may be a link. The oldest ancestor I have information in my line is for Henry F. Doering 1824-1905. Immigrated in 1852 & married Louisa Zimmerman in 1857. They had at least 11 children.

Andrew Doering, born Sept 20, 1881 to David and Lena Doering in Cleveland, Ohio. I have a 1910 census that he married in 1906 to Marie, and in 1908 had a daughter, Alta?. Not sure that is the correct name. I have another 1920 census that names his wife as Marce. At any rate, I can not find any further records, no more census records for any of these three individuals, nor death certificates. Any suggestions?

Hello, my name is Jennie Doering. My grandfather's grandfather came from Pommerania (sp?) Germany. His name is David Doering, born about 1848, his wife's name is Helena, born about 1851. They came to the United States in 1880 with 3 children, Johann (1876), Elise(1878) and David(1879). I am looking to see if anyone has any information. I have no information on Helena's maiden name. Any help is appreciated, I don't even know where to begin to look for their German records of marriage and birth. All I have is a ship's record saying they came over with 3 children. They had 4 more children here, Andrew, William, Michael and Anna. I don't know what happened to Johann or Elise once they got here, they are not on the 1900 census paperwork for David Doering. That I don't know. All I know is what I previously posted a couple of years ago. My grandmother, Mattie Sprinkel nee Bond lived and died in Baltimore, Md. I was wondering if Margaret was a neighbor, close friend or related to the Sprinkel or Bond family.

I'm sorry my Dad didn't know. He said ggrandfather Frederick wouldn't talk about his time in Germany. All I know is Frederick was born May 21,1866, d;Nov 3,1943 in MD,we believe he immigrated around 1884. Franlin was he son,and my dad was also named Franklin differant last name.

I am trying to find information on a Frederick H. b:21 May,1866,d:3 Nov, 1943, married to Frances S.,b: 15 Jul,1873,d: 18 Oct.1956. They lived in Anne Arundel Co. Md. Charles was my grandfathers (Aloysius Henry Doering} brother.I've only begun to research their father John and mother Helena. Not a very easy task.
My grandfather had one child, John, my father. I have six siblings.
Albeit a distant relation, it is nice to find new family members. If you have any Doering info I would be greatful if you would share it.

I DONT THINK YOUR ILLINOIS FAMILY IS PART OF MINE. IT DOES SEEM THAT A LOT OF DOERINGS CAME TO THE US IN THE 1800'S. TOO BAD THAT THEY DIDN'T KEEP BETTER RECORDS. MY GREATGRANDFATHER GOT OFF THE BOAT IN 1882 AND NOTHING.

For what it is worth, I have an Anna Doering born 1836 in Chlapau/Chlapal Gdansk region of now Poland.
Anna married Andrew Klebba, b. 1830 Szwarzeo, in 1859. They came to the US 1882.
Probably not a direct relative but might help to know where another Doering lived about that same time.

Does anyone recognize the Doehring - Doering in the attahced newspaper article. It's from a 1901 Quincy, Illinois newspaper. I believe the article is refering to a woman named M Juliana who was born Feigenspohn/Feigenspahn, married a man named Fuehr, then, after he died, a man named Doehring her in the states. I have some dates, but they seem to conflict with this article and I wold like to figure out if this is indeed who I am looking for.
