Hi Mike,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I did some more research tonight. I have found two different spellings. Doerr and Darr ( But the Darr spelling could be Dorr). I'm not sure which one is correct. Thank you for letting me know about the Library. I went on the website. I did find my gg grandfathers parents names and he has two brothers. I will just keep on going and checking both spellings of last names.

Thank you again for your help!

Karen

Hi Karen!
This may be another branch of the Doerr family.

The Doerr family - George (61), Margaretha (45), Valentine (19), Paul (15), Ludwig (13) (also known as Louis), Albert (8) - departed Hagenbach in 1868. The spelling on the passenger manifest is Doerr. (Albert Doerr is my mother's grandfather, her parents being George Vicent Zirkelbach and Rosa Doerr.)

The family first settled in Armstrong Township of Vanderburgh County, Indiana. (Evansville is in Vanderburgh County, as well.)

The St. Joseph Church History (Ridgway, Gallatin Co, Illinois) records that "Georg Doerr and his four grown sons" arrived in Ridgway in 1875.

These Doerr's came from Hagenbach, Pfalz, Germany. (Bavaria/Bayern) They were associated with another family, the Scherrer's who also migrated during this period.

It is likely that the name was originally spelled Dorr with the German umlat character above the 'o'. As was common--since there was no corresponding umlat in English, the 'e' would have been added.

Other than that, we've found a ton of Doerr's but have not tied any of the families together with ours. Olive and Augus don't show up in our tree. You'd think they have to be related!! ;-)

We have a good source here in Evansville known as Willard Library. If I can look something up for you, I'd be glad to.

God bless,

Mike

Hi Mike,
I'm also, looking into the Doerr family of Southern Indiana area. My great grandmother was Olive Doerr Dempsey (born 12/17/1894 in Indiana died 8/3/1961 in Evansville, IN. Her parents were August Doerr born about 1870 in Indiana and died 2/15/1943 in Evansville, IN. August married Clementine Nicholas she was born around 1861 in Indiana. I'm not sure if you have any information on them or not. Let me know when you get a chance.

I was told by my grandfather that his mother Olive Doerr's family did come from Germany. But I can not find anything yet.

Thank you,
Karen

I have a Gustave Lavern Augustus Doerr, born Dec 1904 and died Dec 19, 1945. He was my Grandmothers 2nd husband, Alice. He is buried in Camas Valley, Oregon. His grave registration says Illnois Chief Mac. USN. I know the spelling of Illnois is wrong but that is the way it was spelled. I remember that grandma said they were stationed in China before WWII.

I am trying to locate any family or records on him for my family genealogy.

I'm looking for any info on the Doerr family in Minnesota. My great great grandfather was Hermann Doerr born 9/5/1867 in Germany and immigrated to MN in 1885. He married either in 1889/1890 to a Theresa Gross also from Germany and immigrated to MN in 1887/1888. I know they had 6 children: Anna, Theresa (my great grandmother), Maria, Hermann, Charles, & Catherine. All the children were born in Minnesota. I believe, Hermann's father's initials are HD (possibly Hermann Doerr as well). I have no info on his mother. He past away on 12/5/1910.
I would appreciate any info. on him and his family. Thank you.

Is this the same Georg Doerr who arrived on the Queen Elizabeth in Philadelphia on Sept. 16, 1738? His daughter Anna Maria was born about 1734 in Germany and her second marriage was to my ancestor Michael Decker. Would like to hear from you if this is possibly the same person. Thank you.

Lewis Edward Volbrecht was the son of Joanna (or Johanna) Volbrecht. (Also had a sister, Christiana Volbrecht) Father of these two is unknown. Joanna married Peter Doerr in MO and both went by the last name of Doerr.

Obit from Raymond Independent, April 15, 1897 (Raymond Library)
Johanah Vallbrecht was born in Hanover Germany, Oct. 16, 1819 and died at her home near Harvel, April 6, 1897, aged 77 years, 5 months and 20 days. She came to America in 1842 with her brother and sister and was united in marriage to Peter Doerr at St. Charles, MO. She was the mother of eight children, six of them are still living; the eldest Christiana having died in September 1897 and one in infancy. She and her husband were among the first settlers in this neighborhood, having settled here in the spring of 1858. She was brought up in the Lutheran Faith and was a Faithful Christian, a loving mother and good neighbor, loved and esteemed by all
------------
I know Johanna's maiden name was Volbrecht (Volbright?) because I have a letter written to her from her brother Henry Volbrecht in PA. So if she was married when she had Christina and Ludwig, that name is unknown. I also know she had a sister in St. Louis, but do not know her name. And Ludwig was born in St. Louis.

I have much more info on Peter and Johanna's family. Contact me at gez78@hotmail.com and let me know how I can help. I'm happy to find someone else interested in them!

I do not have any ancestry history on my father's side of my family (the Doerr's). My Grandfather Fred W. Doerr (God rest his soul in Dec. 2006) married my Grandmother Elizabeth Gaide and they had lived in Villa Park, IL until they moved to Tucson, AZ sometime in the 1980's. I was pretty young at the time, so I don't have a lot of knowledge of our whole family unit. My parents divorced when I was 2 years old, so I don't know a whole lot of the Doerr side of the family and probably only attended a few of the family reunions as a young child. My Grandma Elizabeth Gaide and My Grandpa Fred W. Doerr had three children: Susan J. Doerr (married Timothy Sullivan), Scott Doerr (married Vicki ?) and Joel E. Doerr (married Gail M. Chernetzki-my mother). I know my Great Grandma Gaide's name was Esther because I was told that my father wanted to name me after her originally. My Grandfather Fred W. Doerr had a brother named Carl Doerr (also recently passed away) who has lived I believe in Rolling Meadows, IL for some time. I would like to know more about my fanily's history and the geneology of the family. Maybe I still have a lot of relatives I haven't ever met. I stopped talking to my father when I was 13 due to his drug use and mental illnesses and didn't talk to him again until I was 26 because my Grandma Elizabeth Doerr convinced me to forgive him. I am now 29 years old and have 2 children of my own. I'd like to know more about where I came from and how my family got here. Hopefully someone can help me out on this.
Doerr In St. Louis Mo.

I am looking for information HARRY A. DOERR, son of Adam Doerr died sometime in 1980s. Married to Dorthea "Estelle" Doerr nee Hulsick(I think that was her maiden name). Harry A. was a commercial artist with a stuidio in the Railway Exchange Building (Famous Bar/ Macy's) in downtown St. Louis. He lived in Kirkwood, Mo. and then in the 1940s or 1950s moved to a farm on Becker Road near Bee Tree Park in South St. Louis County to raise Montadale sheep.

Harry A. was somehow a cousin of my grandmother Helen Moeller Rahe. We are still in contact with several cousins to whom we are related through this Doerr branch. However, we're not sure exactly how we're connected because we never paid attention when the long gone "old folks" talked about family relations!

If this Hary A. that I describe sounds familiar, email me at edrahe@acmephotoagency.com

Lewis/Louis and Anna/Annie Doerr, Butler PA

My G-G-Grandparents were named Lewis (Louis) and Anna (Annie) Doerr. Lewis was born about 1865 and Anna was born about 1869. Both of their parents were born in Germany (I don't know where or who they were, this is just info from the 1920 Census. I also know that they spoke german in their household growing up as well as my great grandmother.)

They were married about 1888. They had three children that I know of:

Caroline (b. about 1912) my great grandmother
Edwin (b. about 1915)
Paul (b about 1921)

This is all I have been able to find so far. I would love to be able to trace this side of my family as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If George DOERR arrived in Philadelphia 1n 1738 it's unlikely his daughter born in 1734 was born in Germany. I have a daughter for him named Maria Juliana DOERR born 1734 in Lancaster, PA.

Al Chaput
