im looking for information on Jeremiah J. Dugan born 1770 in Virginia,US died 1837 Decator, Indiana; his wife was Dorthy (last unknown) born 1770 Virginia,US and died 21 March 1879 Clarksburg, Decator, Indiana.
their children were: Mary(polly) 1795-1860,Ann 1798-?, Johan M. 1798-?, Sarah H. 1802-?, Thomas 1803-1884, and Kitty (Catherine) 1805-1854. looking for anything that my help me find Jeremiah's parents or any info at all.

I am searching for a Samuel Spicer Winters born in 1882 in Mississippi, married a Pearlie May Corker in 1915 in Tallahatchie county, Mississippi, and he died in 1952 and is buried in Mississippi (somewhere). I am interested in your Hambleton Dogan ancestor born 1798 in Virginia. He lived in the Carolinas and his descendants who settled in Mississippi.

I am David Wade Dogan III, born in Vicksburg, MS in 1955; my father was born in Grenada County, I believe, and will be 80 years old this year. His father was the one time sheriff of Grenada County, MS. My name must have me in the direct lineage of those you are writing about in this thread.

On my grandfather;s social security records he spelled his name doggans, my dad spelled his last name dogans, my birth certificate list my last name with an s.

What was your mother & father name? did they have any connection with Tallahatchie county or Charleston Ms. or state of tennesee

My relatives are from clarksdale mississippi My Gandfather was Tom Earl Dogans, do you know this person? My last name ends with an s my grandfather also used the German spelling Doggen. I am of African/German decscent any relation?

Hi, I saw your post and think I remember seeing something about this couple somewhere. I think Susan's father was Cade Alford, and they came to MS from Madison County AL. Tallahatchie County has a will for Cade Alford, whom I believe originated from Wake County, NC, but was in Madison Co, AL before 1820 and at least through 1830.
James Alford, some kin of Cade, had land in the same section as Daniel Young Sawyers, whom I am researching.

i do not know, the only information i have is the place he was born and his name. do you know of any dogan in n.carolina who moved to mississipp. Of all the work i have researched the common factor seems to be different towns in the state of Mississippi.

I know of no current relative that lived in north carolina, but my great grandfather was born in north carolina in 1847 by the name of hardy or hardee dogan, the family later migrated
to the state of Mississippi, tallahatchie county if there is any info you can give me it would be helpful

I think that one could assume that Hambleton was probably Timothy's son.

My lineage is John and Samuel Dogan of Culpeper County, Virginia. Samuel settled in Pulaski County, Kentucky with a number of Virginians..

I know the message you posted about Mary Sue Huffman Dogan is old but I just saw it. Mary Sue was my great Aunt. She was married to Layton Hubert Dogan & lived in Roanoke, Va. until late in life when she moved to Ky. I belive, to be with her daughter. She had three daughters, Frances, Josephoine and Elizabeth. I do not remember Elizabeth and I don't know if any of them are still living. Aunt Mary was a wonderful woman & Uncle Layton was a hard working man. My Grandmother was Bessie Brenna Huffman. She Married Michael Spesserwood Dogan.
Brothers married Sisters.

The earliest that I can find Jeremiah Dogan/Dugan was
in the 1830 Indiana census. Perhaps he sent a letter
back to Kentucky to request the pension...

In 1830, on pp. 381, Decatur County, Indiana, a Jeremiah Dugan (60-70) and a female (40-50) were recorded. There
are a Martin and Jonah Dugan in the same county in 1830.

In 1840, Jeremiah Dogan was recorded on pp.179 in Clinton-Fugit-Salt Creek, Decatur County, Indiana at 70-80, one female 60-70, and a one female 30-40. A J. J. Dogan, age 77,
veteran was on the same page, but this must be Jeremiah.

In 1840 in La Porte County, Indiana on pp. 85 there is a Abraham Dogan (30-40) with 5 sons, and 4 females two of which are 20-30.

In 1850, 3 Dogans are in Indiana. This must be the the young
Jeremiah Dogan from the Kentucky Rev. War pension request.

Theres was a Thomas Dogan (18 VA black) and

I am looking for information on my ggrandfather, Chapman Lucas Dogan, Born March 4, 1871 in Craig Co., Va., died June 23, 1955 in Ohio and is buried in Markille (?) cemetery. His first wife, Emma Pace Dogan died in Va. and he remarried in
Ohio. The only name I have for his second wife is Mamie(?).
Would like any information on Chapman, his 2nd wife and descendants from his second marriage.

A Hambleton Dogan is listed in the Hanover County, VA personal Property Tax List on Mar 14, 1820 along with Nathaniel, David W. and James. Early Hanover County records were burned during the Civil War, but I suspect that Hambleton's father was Timothy Dogan, RevWar.

There was a Jeremiah J. Dogan applied for pension in Kentucky 1833. J may be for John??
This Jeremiah moved to Indiana with his family.

Apr 20, 1819 James, David W. and Nathaniel were taxed on the same day.
March 14, 1820 Nathaniel and Hambleton taxed together on same day.
Mar 13, 1820 David and James taxed together on same day.

All of the early Dogan's apparently lived in Prince William Co., VA.

Note: In all instances only one tithable- no horses, wagons etc. This normally means that they were town dwellers or worked for someone. None show up on early census of Virginia. Since Hambleton had a son named David Wade and Timothy's wife was Mary Wade (source VA Land Bounty warrants, RevWar), the proponderance of information is that Hambleton was the son of Timothy Dogan/Mary Wade and that Nathaniel, David and James were the bothers of Hambleton. Michael Dogan most likely ws the brother of
Timothy. Timothy did no marry until after the RevWar.

Timothy Dogan's wife was Mary Wade. Timothy died probably shortly after 1798 in Hanover County, VA. In 1823 his wife Mary (Widow) applied for RevWar Land Bounty. Affadavids were from Hanover County, VA. One dated 1823 listed Timothy as "long dead".

Most of the old Hanover County records were distroyed during the Civil War. So far no wills or other records have been found.
Outisde of the "Virginians in the Revolutionary War, all information has come from the Virginia Revolutionary war Bounty Land records which are available at the Library of Viginia (http://www.lva.lib.va.us/dlp/index.htm). Scan to RevWar Records, click on digitized images and three entries will come up for Timohy Dogan. Hambleton first appears on the Hanover Co. Personal Property Tax record on Mar 14, 1820 indicating a birth year of approximately 1799 since you had to be 21 to be listed.

I am afraid that this is a case of "guilt by association" in that Timothy Dogan is the only Dogan listed up until 1798 and then there appears Samuel, David W, Nathaniel, James and finally Hambleton. Timothy was not married until after the
RevWar. Mary (Wade) Dogan was on the "poor levy" in 1823.
