Hello,
I am a second degree nephew of late Paul DOHAN and knew well Hena as I visited her and Paul in HULL around 48 years ago.We stayed, with my brother Luc, around one month with them.
Around 1976, being in England for a professional trip I visited Paul when he was already in the hospital.
I am happy to hear news from Hena.

Hena Dohan is nearly 92 years old and lives near Malton. She was a friend of both my mother and father (Nancy and Guy Mitchell) from their youth. Hena and Paul were like aunt and uncle to me,and I always called him Uncle Paul. Hena and I spoke on the phone the other day and she is interested in the Dohan family connections.

We think CATHERINE NOLAN (1813-1903) might have been adopted by a DOHAN family who managed hotels in Québec City and Lévis (near the railway station).

Her background:
Irish orphan, Roman Catholic, who lived in the province of Québec, Canada.

Born: around Feb 1813 (or 1816, 1821 or 1823, according to various sources)
Died: Nov 6, 1903 in St-Ferdinand d'Halifax

- Arrived in Canada at about age 6
- Her parents (John Nolan & Rose O'Roark??) died at sea or shortly after arrival
- Apparently spoke Gaelic
- Origin: Co. Galway, Ireland (not sure)

Any info would really be appreciated.

Hello,

I am assuming: Michael Lawrence Dohan FATHER (b. 1870) is the one who owned/operated the DOHAN'S HOTEL in Quebec City and Lévis. (I just got an original advertising card from this Hotel).

Does anyone know who the parents or M.L. Dohan father were?

We'd like to know if someone from the Dohan family (Lévis or Québec) ever adopted Irish orphans :

Catherine Nolan b. abt 1813 - d. 1903.

Her parents probably died at sea.

Any info appreciated.

I am descended from a branch of the Dohan family and I've found the ancestor you are looking for.

Michael Lawrence Dohan was born on 20 May, 1919; his father was Michael Lawrence Dohan (b.1870)and his mother was Gladys Barnfield of Quebec (b.1885- d.1938) who were married 10 June 1903 in Richmond, Quebec. I have found a sister for Michael, named Gladys Barnfield Dohan (b.1904, d. 6 sep 1916). I have found copies of the church records for these names and dates. There may be more children, I just haven't found them yet.

If you go to new.familysearch.org (an LDS website that's free), and search for the family tree of Thomas Dohan and Ellen Hayes from Ireland, you will find your ancestor as he is descended from them.

I have added your information of your father's death date to my records.

I do research the DOHAN family, originated from western Slovakia. Ther is a Paul DOHAN on my list, born in 1913 in London UK, son of Norbert DOHAN. Paul married 1950 to Ursula. I do not have more.

I am looking for one of the sons of John & Elizabeth, who married a Nellie. They lived in the late 50's early 60's on upper North Main Street. There is a Gas Station there now. They had a daughter named Marsha. I don't remember a father, but I do remember Marsha's mother, Nellie. Do you know who the father was? And do you know what Nellie's maiden name was. Marsha married Dan Botelho, but have no idea where she is now. She was a friend of mine as a child. Can you help. Donna

My godfather was called Paul Dohan, his wife, who may still be alive, was called Heena Dohan. Last kwown address was in Willerby, near Hull in East Yorkshire, UK.

He was a close family friend before dying around 1979/1980 of cancer, aged early to mid 60's. He came originally from the Czech. Republic, but fled due to persecution at the start of World War 2.

We lost touch with Heena at about this time. If still alive, she would be around 80 - 85 I guess.

Paul Dophan was a doctor, a good friend of the family and much missed. He saved my life.

My Grandfather, Michael Dohan, had a brother named John. John married Elizabeth Fallet. They had 8 children and lived most of their lives in Danbury, CT.

my father was michael lawrence dohan born may
20, 1919, died april, 1979 in dallas texas.
I believe his father was Lawrence Dohan and his
Mother was Gladys. As far as I know he had no brothers
but he had a sister. He also has a son, Chris Dohan, livin
in Toronto, Ontario. Not much is known as far as
where they came from. Possibly from Ireland, but lived
in Quebec as a child. If there is any link, please let me know
