I have several Doherty families. I also have McDaid, Harkin, Callaghan, Bradley, O'Donnell.

Most of my Irish family came from Co donegal. Those that immigrated to USA, settled as best I can tell in MA, around the Boston area. We also have Cousins(grandmothers) who were Doherty's /O'Donnell's from Co Cork.

I think there were two Mary Doherty's in Co Donegal as well, My notes aren't handy, so I don't want to confuse matters. However I'd like to hear from others who have some of the above surnames too.
McDaids, McDevitts, some of them settled in the Winchester Wilmington, Woburn area of Ma, and I would like to know what made them settle there. I grew up in that area myself.

Bridget Doherty, daughter of Neil Doherty and Mary ? married John F O'Donnell son of John O'Donnell and Elizabetyh Carney. Both families were from Co Cork. However they married at Sacred Heart Church in Carndnogh Co Donegal in Jan of 1881, that April they immigrated to Ma.
First settling I think in Stoneham MA and then in the North End section of Boston. They had a big family in MA.
They were my grandmothers cousin. but to this day we aren't sure which side of the family the cousin connection is on.
My grandmother was Mary Ann O'Donnell, daughter of James O'Donnell, and Susan White Doherty of Co Donegal.

Mary Ann had several sibblings, two of whom I know came to MA, and settled in the Everett area. Mary Ann married Patrick Bradley (from Co Donegal) and wound up in Salem MA
Susan M O'Donnell one of the cousin married Seymour Watts.

Bridget Doherty had 2 sistgers that I'm aware of Mary and Ellen but I do not know a thing about them. Really would like to learn if they married, to whom, where, when, if they immigrated etc. I'd appreciate any help with this if possible.

Where in Middlesex, and Essex Counties were William and Charles born.
I have a lot of Doherty's in my family. Do you know where in Ireland the famiy originated. Mine were as best I can tell from Donegal, and Cork. Those who came to USA, settled in MA . Most of my family lived, and still does in either Middlesex or Essex County

Name of towns/cities in MA, would really help here.

Can you please tell me more about the McGeoghan's from Co Donegal. Did Philip and his wife have a daughter named Mary, and dis this Mary, by chance, marry someone named Bradley.(Bernard to be exact). Maybe it was Philip's father who had Mary.
I've been trying for years to find a McGeoghan/Bradley connection, in Donegal, and this is the first time I've seen McGeoghan, linked with Doherty, which are also very plentiful in my family, and in Boston Area, as well as from Co Donegal, and Co Cork.

Thank you for any help. Feel free to ask me questions, my notes aren't handy at the moment or I'd have said more.
Associated names: Bradley, Doherty, O'Donnell, McDaid, McDevitt, Callaghan, Harkin/s.

My mother was a Bradley. Her father was Patrick Bradley, his father was Bernard Bradley who married Mary McGeoghan.

What was her full name, her parents, and any sibblings names?
I had Doherty's (maybe still do=--actually don't know) in the Boston, North End, Dorchester areas (No End and Dorchester are two of the neighborhoods that make up Boston in case folks don't know that).
My Doherty's came from Co Donegal, and Co Cork.

If you have names, some dates, and places maybe I could help.

Don't know if this will help at all. I have an Ellen Doherty, but she was from Co Cork. She had two sisters Bridget who married John F O'Donnell also from Co Cork, but they married at Sacred heart Church in Carndonagh Co Donegal. Then there was their sister Mary, who I don't know any more about than I do Ellen. Their fathers name was Neil Doherty, and I think their mothers was Mary or Margaret (?)
I also have my great grandmother who was a Doherty(Susan White)
But all these folks were born much later than the 1824 date you mentioned, but still one never knows where things will lead .
Let me know how you make out. I'm serious, I'd love to find connections if possible. To date anyway, none of my family were in Derry, but who knows what will turn up.

My great grandfather was Philip Callaghan from Magheragrumman, Donagh, Donegal. I believe he was born between 1830-1840. He married Susan McEleney before 1861. Their children were:
John 1861 (My grandfather)
Patrick 1865
Joseph 1868
Susan 1870
Catherine 1873
Mary (unknown)
They were born in Terhohel, Carndonah, Donegal. John and Catherine ended up in Woburn, MA.
John married Catherine Winifred Doherty from Clonmany in 1892 in Stoneham, MA.
I believe these Callaghans are related to the Callaghans from your post.
Would love to compare notes.

Dennis O'Donnell from Carndonagh Co Donegal, m Catherine McLaughlin. They lived in Everett Ma, and had 3 sons.

I have Dohertys at least 4 families, but haven't been able to completely make connections, as some of them married into my O'Donnell, family, so is my connection thru O'Donnell, or Thru Dohertys. Oh well!

I just read your post. I live in MA,
I also have Denis O'Donnell that married Catherine McLaughlin. I noticed McLaughlin is one name on your list.
They lived in the Revere/Everett area(next to Boston, but seperate cities) They had 3 sons.
Denis was my grandmothers brother.

Tell us more about Dohertys you have, names, dates etc.
Doherty is such a common name, places alone don't always help. I alone have 4 Doherty families, and am still trying to find out if they are connected and if so how.

She was married to William McDaid born April 4 1874 in Glenkeen Carndonagh Co Donegal and died Oct 14 1923 in Winchester Ma Think they were married on Dec 26 1909.

At some point a lot of these folks wound up in the Woburn, Winchester, area of MA, for those who don't know, they are neighboring towns about 10-15 miles(I think) north of Boston Ma.

I can trace these folks as far back as Philip O'Callaghan born in Newtongrove Kilmacrenan Co Donegal about 1730
married Mary O'Boyle . Their children were: Patrick Callaghan, William O'Callaghan Sr, Francis Callaghan, Edward Callaghan, Philip O'Callaghan.

My connection to above begin with Francis Callaghan .

My great, great grandfather was from County Mayo. John Henry Daugherty b.1846 immigrated in 1869 to Lancaster, Ohio. Married Catherine A. Morris in 1877. They had 4 sons that I know of , John b.?, Dennis Dowling b.1878, Thomas F. b.1879 James Edward b.1884. His parents were John James Dougherty b.1815 and Mary Higgens b.1820. According to his obituary he had one brother Michael Daugherty who remained in Ireland and two sister Mrs. Kinney and Mrs. Byrne who also remained in Ireland. I'm am trying to locate this line. My grandmother remembers visiting cousins there, but she doesn't remember where or who. She's 92. If this rings a bell with anyone, please write.

Hoping that this message gets to you. It is possible that we are related. My grandfather was John Doherty. He came to America around 1906 and settled in Chicago. His final destination was listed as Uncle Jno Moloney. In the 1920s' he married my grandmother Catherine and started a family. They actually had 4 children but only 2 survived infancy,my aunt and mother. My grandfather had a brother Timothy and 2 sisters. My brother has an old (1980s) address for a relative in Shanagarry, Newcastle West, County Limerick that I am going to try and see if I get a response.

My Great grandmother Winifred Doherty came from Ballaghaderreen, Roscommon county Ireland in the late 1800s. She worked as a servant in the Boston area until she married a police officer in Providence RI. One of her daughters kept in touch with a family member in Ballaghaderreen who was a pharmacist during the mid 1900's. Unfortunately I don't have a name for that person.

There is a George H Doherty listed in the 1901 CANADA Census
in Ontario district of Lanark subdistrict of Ramsay at the age of 26.
This is possibly him before emigration still living with his parents.

Hello Barbara, I also have at least two Doherty families in my tree. My great grandmother Rose Doherty married a Michael Doherty both from Donegal. Michael's parents were Rose McCafferty and John Doherty (Mulliers) from Carndonagh. Roses parents were an Arthur Doherty and an Anne Kearney from Greencastle. i hope maybe were match up with one of your families.

Having read your message again, I think we are related. I remember my Dad's Uncle was Tead(timothy) and I remember a Jule and a Kate I think.

My grandfather was Patrick.

There are lots of us still living in the same area that they came from. It would be quite amazing if this is so. I never expected a reply.

We also have relatives living in Newcastle West, but having lived away from Ireland for years, I don't know them very well.

I will check the Ellis Island records I found and let you know the name of the person my gran-uncle said he was going to stay with. Do you also remember that his sister Mary joined him in the US, two years later I think?

I must say I never expected anyone to reply to my old message. It's quite amazing.

None of your Mullier Doherties seem to fit into my Mullier Doherties of Carndonagh. I have not done much research on this side of the family.
I only have John Doherty born around 1861-1867 died 16 Dec 1934 aged 73 John married Cath Sweeney birth unknown she died 8 Dec1950 they had Roseann (my grandmothermarried Patrick Breslin 11 June 1920, she died 16 March 1924 aged 27 when my father was a few weeks old), Maggie, Sarah, Mary, Dan, George and Michael.

Does anyone recognise these names?

I am looking information on my great great grandmother Hanora Doherty (called Nora) and her parents. She was born/baptized August 14, 1867 in Glin Limerick to Edward Doherty and Mary Culhane. Her sponsors were Phillip Doherty and Catherine Culhane.

She arrived in 1885 from Ireland and settled in Rochester with other Culhane relatives. She married James Henry Cullen in 1893 and had a daughter Marie (1895) and son James Joseph (1897). James died in 1899 and Nora remarried in 1907 or so. She had another daughter (Frances Agnes) in 1912 with her second husband Frank Owens.

Embezzlement Charge Against Delmar Doherty of Senath, Mo.

Kennett, Mo.--Delmar Doherty, 35, assistant cashier of the closed Citizens Bank of Senath, missing since January 25, surrendered Saturday night to Elbert L. Ford, prosecuting attorney, and was given liberty under $10,000 bond on a chrge of embezzling $19,000 of school funds.

Doherty said he went to St. Louis the day he disappeared and took an airplane the next morning to Los Angeles. He said he heard nothing of a robbery of the bank that day until after he had arrived in California.

Ford said Doherty promised to plead guilty and make a "clean breat" of his connection with the bank's troubles wich resulted in its closing January 30. W.H. Hutchins, caswhier, is under $10,000 bond charged with embezzlement of $11,000 of bank funds.

Ford said he would attach $2,975 Doherty deposited in a Los Angeles bank.

My husband's Doherty grandfather David Doherty of Charlo, N.B., born and brought up in Bouctouche,N .B., had an uncle Isaac Doherty that came to N.B. in the early 1800, followed by his mother Margaret Fetters Doherty and several children. Wud you have more info.

From what I can tell, Thomas Patrick Doherty and Margaret Connell were Steward's parents. I'm having a hard time finding much information on either of them. is this thread still good, dates are old, Would like to know where in Canada I can find a ships list that is searchable online. and where to find the death certificates for Grouse Island as most of the irish came thru this place. thanks K

I have no idea where to start I have Thomas Doherty Dougherty born about 1815-1819 reportedly connected to Clare, not sure at this point married to a Sarah Switzer born 1818 Rathkeale, branch daughter of Nathanial Switzer and Elizabeth Teskey. Thomas and Sarah were married in 1837 and she and all the children got to Canada about 1850 from census information this is date used for most of them still haven't found that record yet. On most records it seems Thomas died around 1847-1848 I did find a Thomas and possibly one of their daughters who it seems also died about the same time on Grouse Island but not sure this is my Thomas. Where would I look for a death record or marriage for him and would it tell me who his parents were. Thanks K
