Classification: Query
My family (from southern Indiana) is related to the Domes and
my grandmother has given me the family history.
"2 brothers named Von Dohm came to US from Germany in 1723. One settled in North Carolina, the other in Virginia.
The Virginia brother had 2 sons: Conrad who married Charlotte Hildebrand and was killed by Indians near Ft. Wayne
The other brother (my ancestor) was Joseph 1775-1858,
married 1797 to Mary Summers. He was born in Stanton, Va
but came to Green Co, Ky. Mary was related to the Summers
around Georgetown, Ind. and they had 4 boys and 4 girls.
1. David Dome,b1806 had 1 child, Isaac 1832-1902 (here the
writing is a little crabbed but looks like "married
Lydia Messimore"- can't tell if she is referring to David or
Isaac as being married to Lydia; there is no marriage date.)
2. John R. Dome, 1808-1858 m Susan Hurst (the Hursts
of Hurstown, Ind)
3. Susan Dome m Henry Dobson: 1 child Elizabeth
4. Elizabeth Dome m ---Cahoe: 1 child Joseph
5. Sarah Dome, 1814-1878 m William Winn: (known as
"Uncle Billy Winn"- Methodist preacher) had 7 children:
a. Charlotte m Sam Mulvany
b. Clarissa (1832-1888) m Jesse Eaton (1825-95)
(my gggm & gggf): 4 children
-John Wesley 1851-53
-George Washington 1853-c1874-never married
-Sarah Elizabeth 1855-1935 m Frederick Raaf
-Mary Ellen 1859 (never married)
c. David m Nancy Duncan
d. William m Sadie Elliott: son Brewster (2 children:
Chester, Eliza)
e. Thomas
f. Mary m William Thomas
g. Alice m John Nichols of Milltown, Ind.
6. Melvina (Mary) Dome (1822-1885) m James Eaton:2
children--Albert & Emma L
7. George Dome (killed by Indians in Ky)
8. Hiram Dome (1825-1885) m Abigail Marton, lived SW
of Ramsey, Ind and has many descend. in Harrison Co"
Can't vouch for all of this being totally accurate but so far she
seems to be on target with my side of the family! Hope this is of some interest to Domes of southern Indiana!!
