Heinrich Dohn was born May 8, 1838 in Bennhoussen, Rheinpfalz and christened May 13, 1838 in Evangelische, Jakobsweiler, Pfalz, Bayern to Philipp Dohn & Barbara Ullmann. and he died March 21, 1905 in New Jersey.

Katharina Hofmann was born March 13, 1836 in Standbuhl, Rheinpfalz and christened Mar 20, 1836 in Evangelisch, Marnheim, Pfalz Bayern. Her parents were Franz Hofmann & Anne Marie Breitenbruch

Heinrich Dohn and Katharina (Catharina Hofmann) were married 11 MAY 1861 Evangelisch, Marnheim, Pfalz, Bayern

Catharina Hofmann Dohn died and died April 2, 1908 in New Jersey.

They came to the USA in 1885 with their children, Jacobina, Elisabethe, Wilhelm, Jacob, Catharina & Marie

In 1895 census, Heinrich Dohn & Catharina were living in New Jersey along with their children, Jacob, Catharina & Mary. The census had them listed as Henry Dohn

In the 1900 census, Heinrich Dohn (1838) & Catharina Hofmann Dohn (1836) were living in New Jersey. Their daughter Catherina Dohn (1866) was married to George Geair and had two children, William (1892) & Catherina (1899). The census had the spelling Done and Geer.

Heinrich and Catharina Dohn died in 1905 & 1908 so they do not appear again in any census.

I checked the 1910, 1920 & 1930 census and found that George and Catherina Geair had more children so their children were William( 1892), Catherina(1899), Marie (1902), George (1905) and Alfred (1912)

Elizabeth Dohn

I am searching for my great great grandmother. Her maiden name is Elizabeth Dohn. She was born in New York, New Jersey or Pennsylvania. I am pretty sure that it was not born in Pennsylvania. Her mother Catherine Dohn, which I is her married name came over to the US from Germany in 1850. Elizabeth was not born until 1855. So she was over here in the U.S. for a few years. I cannot seem to find Catherine's husband. In the 1900 U.S. Cenusus for Pennsylvania, it shows that Catherine is a widow, and it also shows that she had 4 children, but only two of them are living. I am guessing that her other child that was living at the time was named Maria. I found her on a church record. She was a witness to one of Elizabeth's children's christenings. If anyone knows anything please contact me,I have information on the family going up to myself. If you have any idea where Catherine might have come fromin Germany too that will be helpful also.

Heidi Ruefenacht

I have all the census records of this family.

Like I said Jacob SR was my husband's ggg-grandfather's brother.

William Dohn had 16 children and was a butcher in New York and North Dakota.

I have the ship manifest when they came over from Germany in 1886. Jacob SR was 11. His parents were Heinrich Dohn and Catherina Hoffman.

They had Jacobina, Wilhelm, Jacob, Catherina, Maria, Barbara, Henry, and maybe more since I just now am ordering the christening records.

There are many Dohn's still in North Dakota. I have a picture of William Dohn and his kids

Please stay in touch. We will need to probably need to share information so we can piece our family together.

Recently I've had this strong desire to find out more regarding my family history from my Fathers side of the family. If anyone can help me with more details, it would greatly be appreciated.
My Father is Arnold Dohn. My Grandpa is Earnest Dohn born March 1909 (he's from Germany...well Prussia exactly, so they say). His sisters name is Millie, who just recently pasted away. I regret not taking the time to talk with her and getting more of the family history. My family tells me that the original name is not Dohn, it was changed when they entered the country due to the language barriers.

Dohn Family

My husband is a William Dohn, we are from Pittsburgh, PA (Allegheny County). We are trying to find if there is a connection with other Dohns in the same few blocks of each other back in early late 1800's and early 1900's. I'm working with Carol from the other Dohn message board that you might have seen dated 10/99. When Bill's great grandfather came to the U. S. supposedly in 1882 (according to 1900 Pgh. census records)he was to have come with brothers who some went on to New York, I don't know if others maybe went on to Ohio. They were known to be stonecutters, carpenters, painters and the one in New York was to of had an awning business there. Bill's great grandfather was born in Neidenthal, Germany August 25, 1885 to Martin and Magdaline Gratz both born in the same place. I don't know yet the names of their other children. Bill's great grandfather Charles married Mary Berie and had Louis, Mary, Charles, Leo, William, Ruth and Nina and lived on Fleming Ave, Pgh. Pa 15212 near where we live today. Mary Dohn's daughter-in-law still lives in the family home as she has since she married Mary's son Henry Vogeley. If any of this sounds familiar please contact me.

He married Agnes Decker and had Walter, Donald, Aneline and there was two other kids born after 1930.

Walter Francis was born in Bismarck, ND in 1923.

Robert J was in the Navy in WWI and Norman P received the purple heart in WWII

Just now getting information. Maybe your Dohn's is related to my William who was listed as age 48 in 1920 so that would put him being born around 1872 and in Germany
