My father was born Danny Alvin Dohner, his father was Robert Dohner who I met only twice in my lifetime, once as a young child and the second at my father's funeral in 1978.

My father changed his last name to Smiley out of respect for the nurse that took him in as a toddler and nursed him through some near fatal bout of severe asthma. He remained in contact with his father but I know nothing about his mother whatsoever. I assume my grandfather has also passed on but I am not absolute. The funeral was in 1978 and my father was 37 at the time. He is buried in Grant Memorial in Marion Indiana and his headstone reads Danny Dohner Smiley.

My only brother now has progressive MS and I am very interested in trying to find out what I can about my paternal hertiage, at least with regard to major health issues. My father's severe asthma is all I know and my "grandmother" passed on many years ago. I have nowhere else to go.
