I have a Johann Dohrmann in my family tree book, seems to have been born in Hannover and then I have him going to New York. I have a listing of his wife and family also but the information stops there. Could this be connected? My great great great grandmother would have been a sister her name was Maria Dohrmann married Fred Cordes and they emigrated to Minnesota from Germany. Does any of this sound familiar?

Yes I have seen that, but I was intrigued by your statement that the family had started near Celle and worked their way up north. I had to hunt to track my great-great-grandfather to Nartum, and investigated a number of candidate origins - but none of them were in the Celle area.
regards
Art

I've been researching my Dohrmann ancestors and have localized them to a village named Nartum (30-40 km east of Bremen) in the late 1700's (maybe earlier, but haven't looked into that yet). In that time frame there were several diferent Dohrmann families in that town, distantly enough related that some of them were intermarrying. I've also corresponded with several people who are researching separate Dohrmann families in the Zeven and Stade areas, as well as Nienburg on the Weser.
Are you sure that your Lüneburg ancestors came from Celle? That's quite a distance for those days and there seem to be other Dohrmann families already fairly close to Lüneburg.

Art

yes do you have some? Mine are this way. They had many genearations in this area of bergen Kries Celle. but somehow they worked up north by Munster.[ no umlaut] and then east to Luneburg area. Not sure when they got there. Winkelmann and koch seem to be there too. They were the Meyer grandparents. It was the Heins, Maria Dorothea who married Juergen Heinrich Wilhelm. Her mother was a Henke. Most of them were Juergen William and Henry something until He married Heins. they immigrated in 1884. They came from a area around the hunting seat Gohrde.
What do you have.

Here is some information that may be useful.

Johann Dorhmann (8G Grandfather) B 1580 ca, D 1660 ca. He purchased a house in Odisheim on 17 Jun 1618 from a Marten Schwanenmann being known as house 124 in Odisheim. Reported to have married twice. The name of first wife is unknown. Second marriage in 1656 to widow of Peter Wierck living in house 132 in Odisheim.

Heinrich Dohrmann (7G Grandfather) B 1620 ca, D 1681 ca. Married Cathrine Oelrich in 1681

Anna Dorhmann (6G Grandmother) B 26 Dec 1655 in Otterndorf, D 1720 ca. Married Johann Bulle 14 Nov 1693 in Otterndorf.

Johann Dohrmann (7G Uncle) no information.

Catharine Bulle (5G Grandmother). Married Peter Meyer 2 Jun 1729 in Otterndorf. B 1697 in Geversdorf D 1762. He was a goldsmith in Otterndorf.

This is where the Dohrmann and Meyer lines connect. It is interesting to note that Catharine Bulle who married Peter Meyer were related which is why they both show up as 5th generation grandparents. This is where my information on the Dohrmann name ends. The Meyer genealogy I can bring forward into the 20th century.

Could your interest also apply to Heins?

Fred in Florida

I am sorry to say that the Dohrmann of August and Herman of Farnhamville church in Green or Calhun county are the only ones that I know about[ barely anything]. I want to research them, but i have very little information to go on.
It's never very easy is it. I have to do census once and see what the wifes names were. I do believe there was a Ddaisy dohrman. and maybe a Minnie. It used to be difficult for me to decipher the handwriting. Now they have been type written for us and should be easier.. Perhaps they are connected to the ones in Joliet illn that married Dora Seil of [they were from hamburg]. One of the children Alwine Dohrman married i think Frank Vogel and maybe connected with Volkmer, Kolbe. I believe they the Dohrmans resided with the vogels in green co iowa. I do have a picture. also the name Schnabel married into the family connection.

It appears that there are two different sections of them also. The ones that I'm associated with are

Frederick Dohrmann b.04/24/1889 His siblings were Brothers John, Ewald, and Raymond. Sister of Minnie and Alma. The family´s tree of the Dohrmanns from Landesbergen reaches to the 18th century, and in the village chronicle the name can be found very often.
About your 4 years old posting belonging to Minnie Dohrmann at "Ancestry message board": May be, that we are far related.
German Church records - Nartum/Gyhum, Kingdom of Hannover

I have been researching my ancestors in the church records of Gyhum, a town between Bremen and Hamburg in what is now Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). There seem to have been several Dohrmann families having children during the period 1800-1852 in that congregation. (Nartum, also known as Narten, is a nearby town that apparently didn't have its own church.) If anyone has a specific question, I would be happy to compare it with the data I've gleaned. Caveats: some of the years are very hard to read on the microfilm, and I'm not an expert on German handwriting of the period, so any answers I might give are not necessarily definitive. Still, the price is right...

Art

Hi Frank & Doris,
I am not sure if there's a relation or not. The farthest back I have is the names & dates for my 3rd Great grandparents. It was a handwritten paper by their son Heinrich. And from it, all I know is that they were born & died in Germany... but where? I don't know.
Friedrich Dohrmann Born: 12-29-1816 Died: 12-27-1893
(his wife) Dorothea Marschalk Born: 10-14-1821 Died: 5-9-1898.

I do have a Baptismal Cert. for their son Fritz though, it is in German, from Oct. 3, 1858. This is what the translated version says:

Protestant Lutheran Congregation Hechtshausen, Administration East (Osten) Kingdom Prussia, Province Hanover. Lists his place of birth as Laumuhlen. And his father is listed as "Cottager in Laumuhlen".

Descendants of another son (Johann), claim he was born in Hamburg, but I have yet to see any paper proof of this. He changed his name to John & dropped one of the N's off Dohrmann as soon as his feet hit American soil. His family didn't even know it was origionally spelled Dohrmann! So who knows.
Where is this Lauhmulen, in reguards to where your mother is from? Thanks so much for replying to my message, I'm looking forward to hearing from you again.
Best reguards,
Karmen

the_family_historian@yahoo.com
DOHRMAN orphans- Higginsville,MO area 1959

I am looking for my 2 cousins; Hugo Herman Dohrman Jr. & his sister Mary Christine Dohrman. Their parents' were Hugo Herman Dohrman (February 01, 1893-October 10, 1959) & Shirley Whitesitt (December 14, 1939-August 11, 1959). Shirley passed away after receiving severe burns, and then Hugo died in an auto accident 2 mths. later. I know that Hugo's sister Frieda (Dohrman) Guhl wanted to adopt them, but couldn't for some reason. So, I am hoping that maybe someone in Shirley's family adopted them? They are listed as 5 yrs. old (Hugo Jr.) & 4 yrs. old (Mary) in Hugo's obituary. Please help me find them! Thanks,
Karmen

Hugo Christopher Dohrman b. 8-2-1954 Missouri

Looking for my 3 cousins; Hugo Christopher Dohrman b. 8-2-1954, Mary Christina Dohrman b. 10-28-1955, and their baby half brother Delbert Allen Timmings b. 8-22-1958 (may have been Dohrman on his birth cert. though). They were all born in/or very near Higginsville, MO. (in Lafayette Co.) The family lived in Higginsville, but I'm not sure where the nearest hospital was. Their mother Shirley (Whitesitt) Dohrmann died in a fire in August of 1959, and then Uncle Hugo (Dohrman) was killed in a car accident in October of 1959. Hugo was 5, Mary was 4 & Delbert Allen was just over 1. I do not know where they were adopted out of, I just know that the State would not give them to anyone in our family, or Shirley's family, because we were "too poor". I would hope that whoever adopted them let them keep their first & middle names, since they already had their own identities by then, but who knows. I would love to get in touch with my cousins, to let them know that they were loved, very much wanted and never forgotten! My family, as well as Aunt Shirley's family are searching for them. If anyone knows anything, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Karmen
the_family_historian@yahoo.com
