PALMETTO, Fla. — Edward S. Doi, 82, of Palmetto, Fla., and formerly of Sidney, N.Y., passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at Vencor Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Edward S. Doi
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Edward Seizo Doi, 82, of Palmetto, Fla., and formerly of Sidney, passed away at Vencor Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., on Jan. 29, 1999.
Edward was born June 10, 1916, in Binghamton, the son of Samuel and Sen Shimizo Doi.
He married Glennis Pearson on April 6, 1942, in Sidney. Mrs. Doi passed away Oct. 26, 1997.
Edward graduated in 1934 from Sidney High School. He received an industrial engineering certificate from I.C.S. He was employed for 43 years at Scintilla Manufacturing Company, later called Bendix Corp. He retired in 1978 as a senior methods engineer.
Mr. Doi was predeceased by his sister, Merry, and brothers, Harry and Scott.
He is survived by his sister, Marion Payne of Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Carolyn Yenson Doi of Edgewood, Ky.; son and daughter-in-law, E. James and Patti Jo Provenzon of Sidney; son, Douglas P. Doi of Oneonta; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Valentine-Delaney and James of Pismo Beach, Calif., and Masclat, France, and six grandchildren, Timothy Valentine, Susan A. Doi, Michael and Christopher Doi and Jason and Timothy Doi.
Mr. Doi was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He had a life membership in the Sidney Division of the Bendix Management Club where he was a past secretary. He was past president and secretary of the Scintilla Gun Club. He was a long-time rifle instructor for the Scintilla Gun Club Junior Division shooters, member of the National Rifle Association. As an NRA certified small bone rifle instructor, he was one of the first of a group of safety-hunter instructors for New York. Mr. Doi was a past president of the Empire State Rifle and Pistol League and one of its top shooters.
Mr. Doi was a 32nd degree Mason, having served as master of his Blue Lodge located in Sidney. He also served as master in the Scottish Rite at Oneonta Lodge of Perfection, the Otseningo Council Princes of Jerusalem and the chapter of Rose Croix. In the York Rite, he served as high priest of the Unadilla Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. He was awarded the Scottish Rite Meritorious Service Award. He also received the distinguished Dedicated Service Award from the Grand Lodge of the State of New York.
Mr. Doi was a member of the Dad's of the VFW. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, where he served as a past vestryman.
Mr. Doi was an avid golfer and past member of the Sidney Country Club. He had the first family membership with the Afton Golf Course.
Eddie Doi was dearly loved by his family, grandchildren and friends. There were no services. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home in Bradenton, Fla., was in charge of the arrangements.
A private memorial gathering will be held this summer in Sidney by the family for both Eddie and Glennis.
Memorial contributions may be made in Edward's memory to the charity or organization of one's choice.
