Barbara, My John Doing would have been born about 1814. I found him in the tax rolls for 1848 Cussewago Twp., Crawford Co., Pa. Listed along with him were David Doing, and J. H. or J. F. Doing. In the Cussewago 1850 tax rolls, John Doing and J. F. Doing were listed. There was no David Doing.

I found a David Doing in the Bradford Co., Pa. (Smithfield Twp), 1850 Census. (Bradford Co. is where my Great grandfather, Francis Doing was born.) He was the son of John Doing, b. 1814. In this Smithfield Twp Census, I found that the family of David was listed as Dewing/Doing. He was listed with his wife, Sybil, and three daughters, Louisa, Laura, and Harriet.

Listed next to the Doing family in the Smithfield Census was a Hosley family. I found a record of a marriage of Rufus Charles Hosley and Sarah (Sally) Ann Doing, and they lived in Bradford Co., and then in Potter Co. Pa. She had a brother David Doing who married the sister of Rufus, Sybil Hosley. I found a record of her birth in the LDS /familysearch records. It stated that Sally A. Doing was born in Plymouth, Chenango, N.Y.19 Oct. 1819. Another LDS record found was the birth of a daughter to Rufus Hosley and Sally Doing. The child was Martha I. Hosley, b. 8 July 1846. Martha was born in North East, Erie Co., Pa. which is near where my great grandfather, Francis Doing lived.

In Plymouth Township, Chenango, N.Y., there is a Doing family buried in Heady's Corners Cemetery near Preston, N.Y. (also known as Blackman's Cemetery.) Listed were;
H.B. Doing d. Nov. 10, 1895, age 40.
Martha Doing, his wife, d. may 11, 1896, age 50.
Mary Doing, their dau. 11 mos.
Charles H Doing, d. Aug 2, 1894, 33 yrs, 10 mos, 15 d.
Horace Doing, d. july 15, 1869, age 60 from R.I.
Louisa A. Doing, his wife, d. May 30, 1905, age 80 yrs
Lydia Doing, wife of George, d. Nov 12, 1854, age 20
Unknown Doing, d. Sept 29, 1862, age 17
Lucretia Doing, wife of Paul, no dates
Jane Doing, wife of Benjamin, d. Aug. 1828, age 19 yrs.

In 1830 Pa., Crawford Co., Sparta Twp., I found a Sullivan Doin, also found a John Doing in Philadelphia, Pa. 1830 Census.

In 1840 Bradford Co, Ridgebury Twp, John Doing was listed.

In 1850, Cussewago Twp, Crawford Co., Pa. Census, John Doing, b. 1814, wife Nancy, and son, Francis, age 7, were listed. This Francis was my g. grandfather.

These are the Doings that I have been able to find and believe there is a connection between these families. If you recognize any of the names, please let me know. I have not been able to discover who the parents of John Doing b. 1819 were.
