Thank you so much, that was fast!!! I married a Doiron and moved to Lafayette and I don't speak any French after over 25 years of living here. And believe me ... the fuzzy's are here too....
I would appreciate it if you find out any information to please let me know. There was the BiCentenial in Brusly and my Doiron friend here mentioned Kirkland Doiron was related to him somehow. When I saw your posting, I thought I'd give it a try. There will be a big Doiron Reunion in 2010 or 2012.. not exactly sure, but it will be here in Lafayette, so please keep it in mind, I'd love to meet more Doiron's. There was one here in 1999 and we had a really good turn out... hope to do the same again.
What a shame they didn't continue with their French and you as well... but those were the times back then. I cannot imagine how degrading that must have been for all the Acadians. They were all treated like that. But lucky for us, they were such proud people and now we have embraced their/our heritage.!>
Thank you again, for responding so quickly. This is so neat!
Susan
oh and my Dad and your Mother share the same birthday, Dad just made 81 and is doing very well. Must be a lucky day!>
My mother just celebrated here 99th birthday Aug 30...
She is from Brusly. Her Father was Jon Danos? Doiron(spelling). There are also some Dorion's from Brusly here in the Slidell Area.. He said his father changed the spelling of the name so it would not sound French after WW2 because a lot of people disliked the French.. He said his grandfather (he is about 60+) was also named Jon Danos?
I was one of those that I could speak English & French when I started school. The teachers in kindergarten told us that only trash spoke French.. I told my mother & father and they never spoke French in the house again.
Now I cannot speak or understand a word of french...
Do not know any of the names you mentioned.. I will try to remember to ask my mother next week but she gets a little fuzzy sometimes.. (I am starting to relate)..

No, I don't have any more information on Elizabeth Belle Doiron. Cyprian Batiste Pelate had a twin sister named Addie. She married a Frank SCHMIDT. He had another sister names Alice, who married a Leo BARBER.
Cyprian later moved to Ste. Genevieve, Mo. where he died 4 Mar 1962.

Katherine

Dear Cindy: Did you ever find your brother, David? I hope so.

About a year ago I was in the Louisiana State Library on Bluebonnet Dr. in Baton Rouge. I was researching the Doirons as my mother was decended from Jean Doiron, first married to Marie Canol (DeCanolle) then to Marie Trahan. I was researching in the books from the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge,La. when I came across a note in the book which stated " This information on the Doirons is incorrect". (This is when I was researching my grandfather (Jean Roman Doiron's family. The note was signed "David J. Doiron". He also stated that if anyone was interested in contacting him, they could write to a certain address in Arizona. I wrote to him, but never received an answer to my letter. Apparently someone received it because it was not returned to me. If you are interested, please contact me and when I go back to the library, I can get the address from the book and e-mail it to you. We might be able to trade information on the Doiron Family

Sincerely,

Milton D.
Re: France Connection

Dear Christian: You may aready have the information that you were seeking. However,I am a decendant of Jean Doiron born in 1649. One record shows that he was born in Rochefort,Province of Aunis, France. Another shows that he was born in the village of D'oiron DeuxSevres, France. This village is located near the town of Nancy, France and I can remember my Grandfather saying that his grandparents came from Nancy. Also, when my grandfather died, the priest at St John the Baptist Parish in Brusly, LA (Father Victor Baron (who said the funeral mass) told my grandmother that he knew my grandfather in France and that he was from the town of Nancy. He said that they were boys together.

My nephew is going back to France at Thanksgiving time and he is planning on visiting this area and do a lot of research. He is planning on staying a month.
Last year he reaserched my father's family and traced them back to 1470 in Callais France.
