Well, I sent my $8 to the Indiana Archives people and guess what - no Emma Dolan d bet 1940 and 1945. So the mystery continues. Did she die in Indiana after 1945, die in another state, or have a different name? There is a John J. Dolan buried Forest Hill Cem, Shelby Co, IN d 16 Jan 1943.

The 1940 census will be out next year so maybe I can find some more current info on her. I did find this: 1930 census Shelbyville Dist 1, Shelby Co., Ind has Emma Dolan, age 66, b. Ind, parents b OH, wife of John J. Dolan age 61, b. MN, parents b IL. His occupation is given as Moulder, Foundry.

I once heard she was from New Orleans (but I doubt that). I did find: 1920 census New Orleans Ward 13, Dist 227, has John Dolan age 51 b Illinois, parents b Ireland, m Emma Dolan age 51 b Indiana, parents born Indiana & Ohio. His occupation is given as Superintendent, Foundry. Her age at marriage is given as 22 which is pretty consistent with her first marriage to J'ep Taylor about 1886. And John's age and occupation are consistent. But there are inconsistencies such as her age and the birth location of John's parents.
