Re: Chester Dolby mystery

Update on my question. In the 1940 census we found that Chester Dolby lived in Carbon County Wyoming together with his wife Ruth. According to the census pic he still has the surname Dolby. Unfortunately we still dont find any more like the maiden name of Ruth or possible children of Chester and Ruth. So if anybode knows or finds something, please help us. Thanks. Beth Nieuwenhuis-Dolby

Re: Edward Dolby (Dolbeay) from Sweden

Hi - this message is very old, so I'm not sure if you will get my reply, but I believe that Edward is my great great great grandfather as well. I am from Maryland, and my great grandparents were Augustus and Annie Dolby. In adddition to Augustus (who went by Gus) Edward and Mary Parsons had a daughter named Mary Ann. Gus was born in Massachusetts. My great grandmother Anna Lucretia was one of 5 daughters - no boys to pass on the name. I am guessing that you must be descended from one of my great grandmother's sisters - Mary, Clara or Lula? Lizzie died as a child.

DOLBY, David Charles - Medal of Honor Recipient - Vietnam

DOLBY, DAVID CHARLES

Born: 14 May 1946, Norristown, Pa.
Died: August 6, 2010, Spring Lake, Idaho

Rank: Sergeant
Organization: U.S. Army
Company: Company B, 1st Battalion
Division: 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division
Entered Service At: Philadelphia, Pa.
G.O. Number: 45
Date of Issue: 09/28/1967
Place / Date: Republic of Vietnam, 21 May 1966

Citation

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty, when his platoon, while advancing tactically, suddenly came under intense fire from the enemy located on a ridge immediately to the front. Six members of the platoon were killed instantly and a number were wounded, including the platoon leader. Sgt. Dolby's every move brought fire from the enemy. However, aware that the platoon leader was critically wounded, and that the platoon was in a precarious situation, Sgt. Dolby moved the wounded men to safety and deployed the remainder of the platoon to engage the enemy. Subsequently, his dying platoon leader ordered Sgt. Dolby to withdraw the forward elements to rejoin the platoon. Despite the continuing intense enemy fire and with utter disregard for his own safety, Sgt. Dolby positioned able-bodied men to cover the withdrawal of the forward elements, assisted the wounded to the new position, and he, alone, attacked enemy positions until his ammunition was expended. Replenishing his ammunition, he returned to the area of most intense action, single-handedly killed 3 enemy machine gunners and neutralized the enemy fire, thus enabling friendly elements on the flank to advance on the enemy redoubt. He defied the enemy fire to personally carry a seriously wounded soldier to safety where he could be treated and, returning to the forward area, he crawled through withering fire to within 50 meters of the enemy bunkers and threw smoke grenades to mark them for air strikes. Although repeatedly under fire at close range from enemy snipers and automatic weapons, Sgt. Dolby directed artillery fire on the enemy and succeeded in silencing several enemy weapons. He remained in his exposed location until his comrades had displaced to more secure positions. His actions of unsurpassed valor during 4 hours of intense combat were a source of inspiration to his entire company, contributed significantly to the success of the overall assault on the enemy position, and were directly responsible for saving the lives of a number of his fellow soldiers. Sgt. Dolby's heroism was in the highest tradition of the U.S. Army.

********
Not related. Posted for genealogical purposes only.
I'm from the Christian Laurie Dolby line! He is my ggg grandfather. My line continues through his son, Isaac Dolby to his son, Howard Eugene Dolby > Loren Howard Dolby > Randy Lee Dolby.

I have found more information on this line decending from Abraham Dolby. I'm trying to research Wales (Where it is believed he is from) to find more information on him.

I also have found information on the Bertha Hoover line (she was married to Isaac, son of Christian) going back to between 1447 and 1477. This is just from other's findings, I have no "proof" to support this. But I am more than willing to share my information with anyone.

I have a Sarah Dolby in my family tree. She married Lewis Cohen (of HM24th Foot Reg I think based Ft William, Calcutta) They marry 22/1/1812, daughter Sarah born in Dum Dum 22/10/1816, son Simon born Jan 1821, dies 22/3/1821.
Presumably from complications from the son's birth, mother Sarah dies 3 April 1821 at Fort William.
Somehow one of their daughters marries into Lindquist/Lovell families.
Her widower marries again, perhaps twice - perhaps to a Charlottle Bennett or Bernett and also to a Frances or Fanny, surname unknown, and has at least 2 other children.
Perhaps this might help a bit.
Sue Bennett

DOLBY Family of India

Hello, I am researching a line of Dolbys that were in India from about 1770 on through the British India period.

William DOLBY, married Lucia PICKERGEE abt. 1785. William died in 1812 in Calcutta.

William DOLBY, b. 1804 in Calcutta, married to Eglantine VIE abt. 1824, and Cecilia SETH in 1843. Died in Allahabad abt. 1863.

Ellen DOLBY, b. 1832 in Calcutta, died. in 1900. Married Gregory John SETH.

I believe the family original hails from Yorkshire. There are Dolbys still in India, but Cecilia and William's son emigrated to the USA and died in New York at the turn of the century, abt. 1900.

If anyone is researching this particular line, and has information, please contact me.

Thanks,

Dawn

Dolbys of Sussex County

My great-great grandfather's second wife was Nancy Dolby. I have been trying to find information on her. I just recently got a copy of Nancy H Dolby Swain's will. I believe she was first married to Kendle Lloyd and had at least three children. Possibly, Kendle died and she married John or Johathan Dolby. Before John married Nancy, I believe he was married to Mary Smith Sussex Cty married record for November 26, 1838). I found John (age 35), Mary (age 35), Athalanda (9), Jenny (7), Sarah (2) Sallie. In the 1860 census, he is still married to Mary. Buy 1870, he is married to Nancy. I assume John died because Nancy married Walter Swain around 1880. Sounds like a soap opera. Let me know if this is the family you are seeking.

This Dolby/Dolbey family emigrated from England in 1881. I suspect they came in through Providence RI because the family settled there.

William was the father, Mary the mother and Harry was one of the children. Their last name in England was spelled Dolby, but when they came to the US the spelling changed to Dolbey.

I am looking for their entry into the US if anyone has any ship information.

Lisa

Can someone please verify the information I have listed
below. Several people have given me information and since it comes from different sources can anyone verify or disprove it.

Children of Richard Dalbey and Susannah Harris and/or Ann Williams

Abel Dalbey b 1779 Chester PA m Jane Philips
Isiah Dalbey b 1779 Bucks PA m Jane Philips
Nathan Dalbey b 1784 Bucks PA m Elizabeth Richardson
Samuel Dalbey b 1786
Aaron Dalbey b 1787
Jesse Dalbey b 1788 m Elizabeth Lloyd
Grace Dalbey b 1789 Bucks PA
James Dalbey b 1790 Bucks PA m Sarah Sewell
Rebecca Dalbey b 2 Feb 1794 Bucks PA m Ephraim Smith
Sarah Dalbey b 1797 m Joseph Maus

I can see a glaring difference between Abel Dalbey/Isiah Dalbey both said to have married the same person - Jane Philips and I'm told that Richard Dalbey had at least one child with his 2nd wife Ann Williams. Who would that have been?

I hope someone out there can help - either verify or tell me
its wrong Thanks much.

Chris

Richard Dalbey and More Children?

Well now - I have come across a list of yet another set of children attributed to Richard Dalbey and Susannah Harris.

This is gettin very confusing and I really hope someone can give us an accruate list of Richards children:

This list sounds more reasonable than the last one.

Joseph Dalbey 1764 m Hannah Stonebridge
Aaron Dalbey 1765 m Tacy Marple
Elizabeth Dalbey 1771 m Jesse Bumgarner
Joel Dalbey 1777 m Elizabet Smith
Israel Dalbey m Ellen Ross
Rachel Dalbey m John Moore

In case you lost the other list I had - here it is again

Abel Dalbey b 1779 Chester PA m Jane Philips
Isiah Dalbey b 1779 Bucks PA m Jane Philips
Nathan Dalbey b 1784 Bucks PA m Elizabeth Richardson
Samuel Dalbey b 1786
Aaron Dalbey b 1787
Jesse Dalbey b 1788 m Elizabeth Lloyd
Grace Dalbey b 1789 Bucks PA
James Dalbey b 1790 Bucks PA m Sarah Sewell
Rebecca Dalbey b 2 Feb 1794 Bucks PA m Ephraim Smith
Sarah Dalbey b 1797 m Joseph Maus

Please - if you know the truth about Richards children.. Let us all know.. It looks like maybe Abel Dalbey mentioned above was actually the one who married Clarissa Miller. If so then Isaiah who married Jane Phillips was their son. See its very confusing and we really should find out who is who..

Chris

My G.G.G. Grandfather was a sailor who I found first listed on the 1840 Census in New Bedford, MA. I believe his father could have been Charles. He married a Mary Augusta Jane Anderson (also from Sweden) in 1842. They eventually moved into MD. He died in Oct. 1854. In the family bible the name is listed as Dolbeay, but changed to Dolby.
