Jan,

We MAY be related in some fashion or other. Today, I posted the following message:

"My Dona line begins with my paternal grandmother, Ida Barbara Dona, born in Brescia or Bolsano or Brez or Levico in the Tirol part of northern Italy or southern Austria, depending on who was ruling what at the time, on 06 Mar 1883. She immigrated to Colorado (near what is now Walsenburg) around the turn of the Twentieth Century, where she married the man who had courted her in Italy, Camillo Giuseppi Battisti (when the Italians were in charge of Tirol) or Battista (when the Austrians were in charge of Tirol) and whose American last name was spelled Battiste (as was his son's and is mine.

Ida Barbara Dona's father was Antonio Dona, born 27 Oct 1842 and died 21 Dec 1933. Her mother was Bona Mosken, born c. 1850 and died c. 1895.

Ida Barbara Dona had three sisters - Maria, Virginia, and Fiorenza, and three brothers - Michele (born 04 Apr 1879 and died 08 Jul 1931), Davide (born 04 Nov 1885, immigrated to Colorado, and died in either Arizona or California in Apr 1979), and Herman born in 1891, or 1892, or 1893.

Ida was related to Dona's in Rock Springs WY and to Menghini's in Rock Springs and in CO - her nephew, I believe, Joe Menghini lived with her and worked in her restaurant in Carlsbad NM until his detah in a tragic house fire."

If youcan fill in any blanks in my father's generation or mine, or my children's or grandchildren's generations, please contact me at battiste@sasktel.net

Thanks.

Art Battiste

I'm a Dona, although I haven't really searched the family or anything. My family is from southern Illinois. My grandparents were William and Regina Dona (both deceased he was born in 1901 she in 1902). I think my great grandfather name was August Dona. I was always told that our family came from norther Italy near the Austrian border.

Re: Dona relations

I too am researching the Dona family. The name has changed spelling 3 times so far. My GGrandfather's name was Larry Dona, apparently born in canada in 1843. He came to NY and lived in the West Chazy area. Married Flora Tacy from Schuyler Falls NY and had I think about 11 children. His children went by the name of Donah and somewhere in there it changed again to Daunais. I know he was in the Civil War because of the pension records, died in 1901. his wife Flora died I believe in either 1905 or 1910. If anyone can shed some light on this family I would appreciate the help

I am looking for some information on Rebecca Dona (born approx. 1844-ish) (maybe in Iowa?). She was my gggrandfathers first wife. My gggrandfather was Francis Marion Carr and they were married on 12 Oct 1865 in Greene County Indiana. I don't know any other info on her as far as Death Dates, parents info etc. I know they had three children, William, John and Sophia. I am assuming she died because he remarried in 1876. I would appreciate any info.
April
