William Donaghue - St. Clair, Pennsylvania

I am doing some research on William (Bill) Donaghue who was born in St. Claire, Pennsylvania about 1900 + or - 10 years. He had a son, Thomas Francis Donaghue, who is my father. My father lived in Schuylkill Haven, PA and was born on July 15, 1920. Bill Donaghue was married to Lorena Heffner probably in 1918 or 1919 and they lived in Schuylkill Haven together for about 2 years. Bill abandoned my father around 1922 and no one ever heard from him again.

Would appreciate any further information, should anyone have it.

Thanks

Joseph Robert (Bob) Donaghue
Matha Ellen is a real tough one to find out about. Does anyone have Martha Ellen (Buckalew) McDade Donahue any where in your family info. She was born abt. 1886 and lived in Westernport,MD and had 2 children Lawrance McDade and (Virginia) Virgie McDade and died at the age of 22 (1908). I THINK she may have been married to a Lawrence McDade but not 100% sure. The story my mother-in-law told me about her was she died and her husband (???Donahue)remarried and he was not allowed to conntact his first family. When Martha Ellen died her children were adopted my her mother Eva Catherine Buckalew.

Any help would be appreciated!!
Bev

Re: Bridget Donaghue

HI, what area is your Bridget from? I have a "great aunt" who was married to the 1/2 brother of my grandfather. Her surname after marriage was Bridget Donoghue. The husband was Michael after his father. He was the 1/2 brother of my grandfather David and about 20 years younger. Apparently there were a lot of 1/2's in this family as David and Michael's father was something of a ladies' man. In and out of marriage. He supposedly contacted my grandfather when the ggrandfather was 94 asking permission (or simply announcing) that he was getting married again. And died at 103 by failing off his horse on his way to visit another lady friend. All that's rumor but there's been some truth in some of the other stuff I've heard so I'm not ruling it out. Anyway I have a very limited amount of info on Bridget which I'd be happy to share. This one was in the NYC area during much of her life.

Maybe related, maybe just coincidence: My James Donahue b.IRE married Hannah Sullivan b. IRE. First child Mary Donahue b.1851 Canada. The family shows up in Madison Co.,Kentucky in 1870 Census, with 5 more children all born in Kentucky. By 1880 they are living in Indianapolis IN. Hannah is a widow with: Michael, Maggie, Josie, Nell, and Nan (ages roughly 12-21). I don't know where in IRE they came from - Co. Kerry keep s coming up as a possibility because of the incidence of both surnames.

Looking for any information on a Michael Donaghue/Donoghue of Illinois. He is listed in a biography as being a prosperous farmer outside Springfield, and the son of Sylvester Donaghue and Catherine Griffin. He was born in Ireland, and had a brother Edward, also in Illinois. Any help at all on his family or farm would be gratefully accepted. Best Regards, Cinda

I'll give the the same info basically that I gave another, check out www.theshiplist.com. You will find a wealth of knowledge including the Egan and the Donaghue in various spellings as well as the Canadian National Archives regarding Grosse Ile.
Have a day to go through the info as there is lots, but the trick is to have done the 'from you back' research, to know which branch you fit in and that must usually be done with church registers etc that are on microfilm or with the original stuff, found in libraries, like the Kingston Main Branch and at Queens, in the Geneology room, to cover the whole Kingston Diosese in Ontario, as the Catholics kept very good records of who the parents were for the weddings and baptisms as well as cemetary records.
Good Luck and it looks like you may be related, if you can trace back to the Ontario area.
Judy Greenwood-Speers
greenwoodspeers@hotmail.com

I thought you might like to know about a great site that has helped in tracing my Donaghues who I beleive came over as Peter Robinson Settlers from Cork Ireland. It is www.theshiplist.com and in particular http://data4.collectionscanada.ca/netacgi/nph-brs?s2=Donaghu...
is a listing of some that died on the way here and at Grosse Ile, the Canadian version of Ellis Island, in the middle of the St. Lawrence.
In short, reading through the Peter Robiinson reports was a wealth and info and it matches up with our early knowledge of the first Canadian Donaghue's who we knew landed here well before the Potatoe famine, though some came after.
Enjoy
Judy Greenwood-Speers
greenwoodspeers@hotmail.com
Ontario Canada

Hi Kerry, You mentioned your mother was born in Pendleton,Or. We are Donaghue's living near Portland,Or. in the town of Tigard, but my husband and his family are from NY and MASS. You also mentioned some of your line as coming from NY. Do you have any more info ,as to the name of the town and the time they were in NY. Also,do you live in Oregon? We don't have alot on the Donaghue line, but what I have I will give you if interested. Sincerely,Kerry at eedonaghue@juno.com

Kerry,It might be intersting to note that we have a friend here by the name of Frank Scheer, from a long line of Scheer's that have lived in this area for many years. I will ask him if he knows of anyone with the name of Bill in his family that was chief of police. As for the rest of it,it does sound a little confusing, and I wish you well in your search. Our Donaghue's could be related back to NY,but as far as I have been able to record, they were in either Pennsylvania or Mass. during the last half of the 19th century, and moved to NY early in the 20th cent. But who knows?Maybe they all came over from Ireland thru NYC?

I am sorry I haven't been able to speak to my Scheer friend yet,but will let you know when I do. I appreciate your interest in trying to piece some of the Donaghue genealogy together,as we are just beginning with this, and not having any living ties that we know of,and also, you are the first to reply to any of my several messages I have left on the Donaghue surname board! The history I have for the Donaghue's is as follows: my husband,Edward E. Donaghue,jr.,born Sept. 1951 in Syracuse,NY. His father was Edward E.,sr.,born Dec. 1925,died July,1983. He was born in Syracuse,NY,died in Tucson,AZ. His father: peter Donaghue, born l887,in Lowell,Mass.,died 1971,in Erie,Pa. His grandfather,Peter Donaghue, was in the Civil War(you can see the original document on him in the Civil War files at ancestry.com),serving in the Penns. Infantry. This completes what I have thus far on the Donaghue's. Since my husb.'s folks divorced when he was two,he never knew his dad and we have just started trying to piece some kind of definitive history together.Thank you for however you can help!

My husband ,Ed and I are trying to piece together some of his paternal family history, since we know very little, but that his father's name was Edward Donaghue and he was born in Lowell,MA in 1925,and his family moved to Syracuse,NY in the 30's. His grandfather,Peter Donaghue, was born in Lowell in 1888 and died in Erie<PA in 1971. That's about as far as we've gotten so far. Sincerely,Kerry

Sorry, forgot to say that since everything was spelled phonetically in this country at that time, other spellings in the search have been Donahew, Donohew, Donoghue, and all of the above with an "O" in the front. This is from documents across Illinois for just one man, and changes from generation to generation in census reports, and vital records searches. It even seems to change spelling in family documents, from one entry to another. Donaghue is the most common. Any help would be useful. Thanks.

Donaghue Info.

Hi,
I have just begun researching my Donaghue lineage. Here is what I know so far. My father Douglas Wayne Donaghue b.(7/1943or44, Riverside, CA) eldest son of Otho Orma Donaghue d.(3/25/1980, Riverside, CA) & Dorris ? d.(??, Riverside, CA). Otho was son of Michael Francis Donaghue b.(9/1890) d.(5/27/1974, Sacramento, CA) married (8/4/1910) to Inez Davis. Apparently, there are many relatives in Ozark County, MO. Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Charee
