Hi,

My grandmother, Hazel Moote, was not legally adopted by the Davis family. Her mother, Fannie Horton Moote, died a week after giving birth to my grandmother. Zero didn't know what to do with a newborn baby, so he let his next door neighbors raise Hazel. He married Belle Dawson in Washington, D.C. in 1904, and she came out to Delhi Township, Kansas. Zero and Belle lived in Kansas until 1910, and he left for San Antonio or Sulphur Springs, Texas.
I do know a few cousins from Mabel Moote Pyrun. I don't know if your father knew about Hazel being raised by another family.

Thanks,
Katie

Katie, Helen Irene Moote Donaho was my grandmother! My father, Scott Richard Donaho, Jr., is 82 years old and a practicing attorney. I have no pictures, but I will contact my father and my youngest sister (there are 6 siblings in my family)to see. We knew Judson Moote, grandmother's younger brother (who died many years ago. She often talked about a step-mother who raised them, I never heard about a next-door neighbor. I would love to know more about you and your family. My middle daughter currently lives in Manhattan, KS. I will try to get back to you as soon as I find out anything about pictures.

Hello Lee ---

I do not see your line in my file, but probably have some of yours farther back.

My Donaho girls that married George Walker and Samuel Walker were Amanda and Lucinda. George and Samuel were the brothers of my husband's grandfather, W. W. Walker.

My Sarah Jane Donaho married Carlton Midkiff. Carlton's father, Henry T. Midkiff was the brother of MY great great grandmother, Emily Midkiff Turner.

I also have Esther Donaho that married Elijah Isaacks. This line runs down to my husband's line on his mother's side.

As you can see I have many lines to seek and appreciate any help. I will gladly share with you and see if we can connect.

I like to post my work on line so that others can see it and maybe connect and share with me. I have been doing research for 15 years and have a very large data base to share.

Betty

Betty,
I believe we may have a connection, although I have been told lately that I apparently dont know who my Grand father on my Donaho side really was. My dad was Jerry Truman Donaho, My Grandfather was Jerry Simpson Donaho, and my Great Great Grandfsther would have been Issacc E Donaho, So if your information is correct, and mine is correct then we are related. I need to know if you have any information on my Grand father, or G, G. Grandfather, and / or their families. Please email me rather then posting on this board, because sometimes all I have is my cell phone to check my mail, and I cant get on the message boards with it. Hope to hear from you soon,
Janet

Have you run across a book titled "DONAHO DESCENDANTS" authored by Roy B. Young of Oklahoma? I have a copy of the first printing published in 1998.
Roy states in the book "Frances Ann Donaho is the great, great grandmother of the author (ROY) through her son William J. V. Young, her grandson Fredrick Orlando Young, and her great grandson Roy Bethel Young."
Roy also states the "Forever Young Family Association" placed a memorial marker on Frances's grave in a special ceremony in June of 1996.He also writes there is detailed information on the life of Frances Ann Donaho Young and a complete record of her descendants is available in this writers book "FOREVER YOUNG" Volume 1.
I have an address and phone number for Roy over 12 years old I could share with you if you are interested? It would be worth a try anyway. There is a lot of great info in the "DD" book all the way back to John Donaho of Laurens County, SC.

Frances Ann Donaho was born in Cherokee, TX. Married to Isachar Greenberry Young. in 1865. She also had 2 other husbands that were Youngs. I think brothers. I have an awesome picture of her that my Great-Grandfather had of her. She definately looks Indian. I was able to trace her back to her 2nd Great-Grandfather which was a direct descendant from Ireland. I also found a census with her grandfather that might of been in the Civil War. I am still looking into it. I find this so facsinating.

I'm sorry but I don't have much information on the Donaho's, but I would love to find out more. The problem and is the age and location of my Donaho's, in very early Texas history. See, my eldest Donaho ancestor was listed in the 1825 Mexican census of Texas. Luckily the Mexican government list maiden names of women in their census so I have that, but I really don't know where they were from.

Daniel Donaho and his wife, Nancy Larimore, is listed along with their children, including my ancestor, Matilda Donaho. Because of a lack of information I haven't been able to go further back. I have seen some websites which have a father listed for Daniel, but they say that they are guessing and they do not post their source data or why they think this person is his father. That is too vague and is little value in genealogy research. Never attach a "best guess" to your research. That leads to mistakes which get propagated by others.

My mother, my brother, and I were listed with my father's twin brother in MANY websites. To this day I am still contacting site owners to get that corrected. Just don't post it if you don't have documentation proving it.

Sorry to get on my soapbox. Can you tell it is a pet issue for me? :)

Anyway, I would love to get your Donaho info. If you are willing would you send some to me at tamdino39 at yahoo dot com?

Have a great weekend. :)

Tammy

I was wondering if anyone knows Scott Donaho from Texas. His mother, Helen Irene Moote, was my grandmother's sister. My grandmother, Hazel Fern Moote, only got to meet her older brother Lewis Moote. Her mother died a week after giving birth to her in 1903. She was raised by the next door neighbors. My family never really got to meet any of our Moote side that went to Floresville, Texas. I have always wondered if anyone had any pictures of grandpa Zero Moote. My father would have been Scott's first cousin.
Thanks,
Katie

I have a William G. Donaho Sr, son of John (?) Donaho and Eleanor Key. William G. was born 1735 in Laurens Co SC.

William married Esther Daniels about 1776 in 96th District SC. Esther was born 1747 in 96th District SC

Children of William and Esther were Daniel David; Esther/Hester; Dempsey; William G. "Chief" Jr.; Willie Wylie; Moses and John.

I show a 2nd marriage for William G. SR to Hester Addison and that they had at least 2 children: Charles and Cornelius.

I show that son, Daniel David Donaho was born 1769 in Laurens Co SC and died 1 Jan 1865 in Newton Co TX. Daniel married Nancy Larimore. I show they had 16 childlren. The 1835 Bevil District census of Texas gave the names of the children and their ages.

I show that Daniel, Moses, William G. and Dempsey's husband, William Gill Cooper all owned land at the same time in St Helena's Parish LA

I have very little information on the children that do not connect to my lines.

I hope this helps.

Betty

Hi Kim,
Familysearch.com shows the following information:
Nancy "Nannie" Elizabeth Donaho b.5/28/1873 d.8/12/1951 Leon County. Her parents were David M. Donaho b. abt 1847 and Martha Hamilton b. abt 1851.

Nancy married Eddie Lee Gustavus on Dec. 29, 1890. He was born 3/16/1871 D. 9/14/1958 Leon County.

His father was William Gustavus, b. abt 1845.

I don't know how accurate the information is, but I hope you find it helpful.
Kim, I searched the internet for Nancy Elizabeth Donaho and Eddie Lee Gustavus, but was not able to find them. My daughter and I did see a Gustavus in one of the cemeteries that we visited this year. I can take a closer look when we are in those cemeteries again, maybe later this year. You live up in Tulsa, Oklahoma? We are in Houston, Texas. I sent a couple of messages to our Donaho cousins asking for help finding Nancy E. Donaho. There is a guy up in Oklahoma that has a book called "Donaho Descendants", that he sells for about $50, plus shipping. I don't have the book, but I have seen it. I do not know if Nancy is in that book. My father was born near Normangee, North of the tiny town called Jewett. You can reach me at: grdforunowho@yahoo.com
Cousins, Glen Donaho

My grandfather was Charlie H. Donaho and he lived his entire life in Madison County. His parents were William Franklin and Edna Donaho, also from Madison County. I have a book that has some information on the Donaho family's. One of the first Donaho's married a Sarah Benfield. I'm still working on the dates. E-mail me at 927@txcyber.com and lets see if we are working with the same family. I remember Pa telling us about a brother that lived over in Grimes Co(?) in the Normangee area. They split off and changed the spelling of the name. Originally from Tennessee area. I'm new to researching and have just barely begun to scratch the surface. Charlie and his wife are buried in the Willowhole Cemetary outside of North Zulch, Tx. Would love to compare notes.

I am new to this process and may never find a response. I know that a number of Donaho and Donahoe family members are buried in Normangee, Texas. My grandmother was Leether Donahoe (Bishop). She was one of 13 children of Jeff Donahoe. Both names, or so I am told, are often from the same family and infact, I have two cousins who are brothers using different spellings.
You may want to look at the list of Donahoes on the web page for the Wealthy Cemetary at Normagee, Texas.
