Please eamil me privately with the info. Gald to see if i can find a match

DonaldsonBank

A One Name Study in locating Donaldsons and their Researchers

It started by me trying to figure out a way to respond to the various Donaldson trees and data I received over the years along the lines, "Unfortunately I don't have a match but will retain your information and if I get a match in the future I will get back to you". Sound familiar?

I was also looking for a suspected USA Donaldson line in my tree, which. after some 20 years searching. I found in February 1998. I have a lot of 'new' third cousins.

So about two years ago I decided to do something practical and put all the Donaldsons that I had (ie persons BORN with the name Donaldson into an MS Access 2 database (now MS Access 97) which I call DonaldsonBank. I can send data on a floppy (or e-mail) as an MS Access file (the best) MS Excel 5-97, PDF, or plain text if it assists. To print out the full report list of Donaldsons is some 75 plus pages now!!! Think of my postage bill, so e-mail is preferred.

The database is not a multiple family tree and it does not record spouses. Think of the logistics of that? It just finds Donaldson and tries to link them to their researchers.

As the data built up and I got a number of inquiries and made some hits (matched researchers) I decided to put it in the GRD as a one name study to see what would happen. The idea is to encourage Donaldson name researchers to correspond with one another. There are now 92 researchers in Australia, NZ, USA, Canada and the UK. Most but not all have e-mail, but their snail mail address is also provided.

What it does is to take the Donaldson researchers and 'their Donaldson names', and then sorts the names by the following criteria.

First name, then YoB, then DoB, then PoB, then CoB, then DoD, then PoD, and finally CoD in that order.

There are about 1,800 plus Donaldsons listed now and growing. The more that I have the better the chance of getting matches. This reflects the work of the current 95 Donaldson name researchers

It is also capable of selective searches, eg., 'Donaldsons born in Scotland between date and date' etc.

So to be part of DonaldsonBank I need your Donaldsons with as much of the above data as you have. The more dates and geographic info the better the chance of a match. James Donaldson unknown, unknown, unknown, etc., is not very helpful. James Donaldson b 1867 in Dundee, Scotland died Melbourne, Australia in 1916 gives a lot of opportunities to achieve a match.

I encourage you to participate, there is no charge or obligation and maybe join with other Donaldson name researchers around the world.

John Donaldson
Melbourne, Australia
Wednesday, 12 July 2000
e-mail: johndd@edison.dialix.com.au
home page: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/o/n/John-D-Donaldson/
Hi Mr. Donaldson; I am Charles Edward Donaldson; my mother (Betty Donaldson) brought your page to my attention. I am sending this posting from her computer @ her house. Donaldson) was born in Selkirk, Schotland, in 1868.
My father (Edward S Donaldson) was born in Waterbury, CT., USA.; in 1917 and died here in Eugene. OR., USA., in 1996. We have names dates for my grandfather's family; they are:
Charlott -- 1855;
Alexander -- 1857;
Robert -- 1858;
Alex -- 1860;
James -- 1862;
Mary Jane -- 1865;
*Charles* -- 1868;
The parents were: John Donaldson (1829) Jane Greig (183?) M.; -- Dec.1,1849 @ Stow, Medlothian, Scot..

My grandfather Charles Donaldson and his wife (my grandmother Donaldson); Agnes Muir (1880) seem to have arived in North Amc. in or around 1900. My uncle John (Jock/Jack) was born over here at about the time that they arived (???) 1900/01. Agnes's parents were John Muir (1829) and Jane (1835).

We would like to know if any of this information meshes with the Donaldson names information that you have already; also we would like to be informed if you should get any information that adds to what we have. Thank you for any help that you can give us. Me e-address is "ced@rio.com"; my mother's is "be_donaldson@hotmail.com".

--- added below are a few links to some of our wed pages. The 1st. one --"Peacock's Den"-- is to my home page on Tripod.com; it is about my claim gold hunting in OR., USA.. The 2nd. is my begining geneology page that links to other pages. The 3rd. is my mother's home page/ geneology page on tripod.
http://members.tripod.com/~Tobi_Wan_2/PeacocksDen.html
http://members.tripod.com/Tobi_Wan_2/links/genealogy-1.html
http://members.tripod.com/bdonaldson/mypage.html
Thanks for being around; by for now.
Charles E Donaldson aka: "Peacock"
for Betty Donaldson

I wonder if anyone is researching my Donaldson line from Aberdeen Scotland. My G/grandfather Alexander Davidson Donaldson arrived in Melbourne Australia +-1855 with his mother Elizabeth. His father was Robert Donaldson B +-1819 Old Machar, Aberdeen had died 13.1.1849. Robert was a coachbuilder and he married Elizabeth Davidson on 11.5.1843 Old Machar, Aberdeen. They had 4 children - Elizabeth b. 6.8.1844 Old Machar, d. 1.7.1864, Robert Alexander B 23.12.1845 m.Elizabeth Lloyd and moved to London, Alexander Davidson b.6.9.1847 Old Machar Aberdeen, d. 17.7.1921 Melbourne, Australia, Ann Simpson b.24.3.1849 Old Machar, Aberdeen. I cannot be sure of Robert's parents - there are a couple of possibilities. I would be grateful if you would add me to your DonaldsonBank with the hope of finding a link somewhere. I was born Donaldson but my research seems to show my grandfather took his mother's maiden name ( she was Mary Donaldson, daughter of Alexander Davidson Donaldson)
Hope someone else is researching my Robert from Old Machar Aberdeen!

Regards
Dee Day

John DONALDSON, b. 1745

I am looking for my ancestor, John DONALDSON, born in England in 1745 according to his war records. He moved to South Carolina and was in the records there as early as 1775. He married at sometime to a woman named Sarah, and had three children, John, William and Peter. They moved to North Carolina and by 1781 John Donaldson wrote his will and died at the age of 36. He was a merchant. Could this man be in your records? Does anyone have access to any parish records of the years in question? (1745) He and his wife were members of the Anglican church in SC.
I am seeking information on Lucy Herr, who was born in Oregon in 1865 or 1866. On the 1920 census, she lived in Oklahoma City and was listed as the "half-sister" of my g-grandfather, David Donaldson. Her occupation was listed as "artist." It appears that she spent her later years on the west coast, in Washington and California. Although I had heard that my g-grandparents lived many miles apart for a time, I have never heard any family stories about my g-grandfather and his supposed "half-sister."

Hello, Thanks for the speedy reply . My gt grandmother is Elizabeth Donaldson b 1835 in Rathven, Her father was James Donaldson born 1805 Rathven her mother Isabella Forbes born 1811 Portknockie. This much is fact, Now it gets difficult. I know that I am not in the same direct line as yourself as in James Donaldson born 1805 death cert it gives his parents as James Donaldson & Jane Newlands I know this is the correct James because all the other details match. What I am hoping is that there may be a connection between the two Donaldson families which may help to increase my understanding of the Donaldsons. Hope this clarifies thank you cheers Macci6

Hello all. I am searching for information regarding Elizabeth Donaldson who is my Gt grandmother. She was born in Rathven Cullen in 1837 to James Donaldson and Isabella Forbes. She married mt GT grandfather Alexander Mackay in Aberdeen in 1859 they moved to Edinburgh 1n 1862 and had at least the following children Isabella 1860 Aberdeen,James 1865 Edinburgh Jessie 1867,Margaret 1869, Robert Owen 1871, Donald (my grandfather)1873 Roderick 1874 and Andrew 1879 all in Edinburgh. I would like to know more about her early life befors she left Rathven sometime before 1859 and also from any decendents of the family. I would love to have a photograph of any one connected to the family also but know how unlikely this is. I do know quite a bit about the family which I am very happy to share Good wishes to all macci6

Dr. Auntie Belle Donaldson

This lady is connected to my family somehow. She was at my aunt's wedding in Wpg Dec 25,1928 according to a write up in the Manitoba Free Press I found the other day. It's the first real clue that she really is family. I have a pic of her in Washington state in front of her chiropractic practice and it says from Auntie Belle. The wedding was Evans/Brydges and there was also a Mrs Jane Pringle present. Until the write up I didn't know her last name was Donaldson. Brydges was my name and Pringle is a name on the Brydges side. Does anyone know of Belle (Isabelle?)

Re: Alexander Donaldson & Margaret Hunter

Alexander Donaldson was my 3x great grandfather. Simon was my 2x great grandfather. There was no Ludovic (b. 1809) that I can find. The date of Alexander's marriage to Margaret Hunterwas 5 Sep 1799 in St Cuthbert's Cuhurch, Edinburgh. There was a second James b. 1811 and a second Margaret b. 1814 indicating that the first ones had died.
e-meil: cameron@baynet.co.uk

Euan Cameron

Issac Greer Donaldson

I am wanting to know more about Isaac Greer Donaldson. His mother was a widow when she and Isaac went west from PA. to what is now Kansas. She went there to teach at the Ioway Indian Mission. She had been married to a Harrison Donaldson. After a few years she married again to a James Williams and had 2 more children, Mary and Flora. Isaac Greer Donaldson married my great grandmother, Susan Jane Brown. They had ten children. I would like to hear from cousins and anybody else that has information of this line. You may e-mail me directly at: iamearthangel77@yahoo.com. Thanks.
