I too am a descendant of Marie Tallifer, she is my ggggg and my gggggg- grandmother, her son Martin is my ggggg grandfather and her daughter Celeste (Martin's full sister) is my gggg grandmother (Martin's granddaughter married Celeste's, son).
My sister said Father Hebert's records have Martin Donato Bello marrying Marie Taillifer in New Orleans. Her 3 children, Martin, Celeste and Victoire are his. She did remarty after Martin remarried, but I saw no record of children from that union.

I'd be interested in seeing these postcards if you still have access to them. I realize your post was some time ago.

Thanks,
Jim

Would this mean anything? My great grandmother was born Salvatora "Donato) born in Barcelona Pozzi deGotto, Messina, Sicily in 1854.
Her (Salvatora) mother and father were Francesco and Carmela DONATO.

Salvatora "DONATO" married Salvatore (MAIO) MAGGIO from Meri, Messina Sicily, and later moved to Santa Lucia del Mela, Messina Sicily, where they used the "MAGGIO" instead of the MIAO name.

Salvatore MAGGIO, and some of his sons later came to the US in 1899, men first, wives and children later between 1900 and 1903. They settled in Ybor City, Tampa Florida, after working in Hillsborough and Polk County (Lakeland, FL)

Gerard L MAGGIO
amflg1@aol.com

Donato DETROIT MI to LA CANADA CALIFORNIA

I am searching for descendants of Samuel Donato who applied for his SS number in MI. Born 1913 he died in La Canada, Flintridge, CA in 1979. He married Virginia Biegalski in Detroit (but her step-father raised her and her brothers so she took the last name of Kabala, her step=father's name).

Virginia is still living in California but my great uncle will not release her phone and address and it is unlisted. She is about 87 now, daughter of Jennie Malinowski and John Biegalski. She had brothers Edward and Arthur (who changed his name to Anthony after his step father but was nicknamed Archie). Have just found that Viriginia's husband was named Samuel. Hoping she had children and grandchildren. I don't know why my great uncle won't release her address (he's a RC priest - privacy thing?).

Linda
http://www.geocities.com/jomilu2001

Does anyone have a connection to a Tomaso Donato and a Annuiziata Recilli living in Gimigliano, Calabria in the mid 1800's who had children by the name of Scipio, Frank, Joseph, Sam and Maria Rosa? Scipio or Scipione, Frank and Joseph came to the USA around 1895 or so. Sam had a son named Thomas who lived in Haverstrau? and Maria Rosa stayed in Italy and lived in Naples. Scipio came to Niagara Falls NY and married a Maria C. Scalise and they had children in Niagara Falls.

Joan, did you attend the family reunion last year in Opelousas? If so maybe I met you. I was with the Texas Ozan's. We are the decendants of Marie Camille Auzenne's brother St. Dennis Ozan. He and many of the other Auzenne's changed their names when they went to Texas because the Texas couldn't speak french so they came as close to it as they could with OZAN. Do you know if any has attempted to start our family tree beginning with our Great great great grandfather Sosthene Auzenne and his Wife Celestine Donato? We are all trying to find out if Sosthene and Celestine only had Marie Camille and St Dennis or were there other children. Someone in the family has traced our ancestry to Normandy Frances. We our family was forced to leave Canada some went to Louisana and Austrilla. That would be a interesting histroy to trace. There is a castle in Normandy called the Auzenne castle. Next year you might have heard that there is going to be another family reunion. Hope to meet more family. Take care.

Two New York City picture postcards sent to the Donato family at 7251 S. Mood (Moad?), Chicago, 36, ILL from "Pauline" were recently discovered at a New York antiques store. Pauline writes similar message to both girls: "Went to New York yesterday and saw Frank Sinatra in 'Step Lively'. Not bad - that man can sing." Pauline says to Teresa, "sorry you're in the dog house." Pauline apparently did not know Mickey well.
Would like to hear from anyone interested. Steve, NY

My name is Marcel Diallo of Oakland, CA. I'm a Donato descendant. There is a wealth of info on our white, quadroon and mulatto patriarchs and i would be happy to share it with everyone, but where I'm stuck at is on the parents of Donato Bello's black mistress Marie Taillefero. and Martin Donato's Wife Marianne Duchesne's Mother Nanette St.Laurent's parents. I know they all met in New Orleans before migrating to St.Landry, but that's about it...

He gave as much of his estate to his natural children as the law allowed and the remainder to his nephew and universal\ heir, Jacques Dupre. The probate court awarded half of the estate to Jacques Dupres' and the remainder to Genevieve and her children. On August 17, 1824, Jacques Dupre' renounced one-half of the amount awarded to him by the court and donated that amount to his uncle's natural children (St. Landry Parish, Notary Bood AA pp 48-51). The St. martin and st. Landry Parish archives, as well as the records of district civil and state supreme courts, provide evidence of such donations." Second- or third-generation free blacks usually
inherited the accumulated property, no matter how meager, of past generations, and slaves
who had well-established free black friends or relatives stood a better chance of being
"rescued" from slavery than those with no ties to the free black population. For example,
Juan Bautista Hugón, born free and a captain of the free pardo militia when he died in
1792, purchased the freedom of four of his five children and at least one of their mothers
during his lifetime. At the time of his death Hugón's goods consisted of a house and land
on Calle Santa Ana in New Orleans, one slave, furniture, and clothes. He donated to don
Juan Bautista Macarty's slave Magdalena a bed, a stoneware fireplace adornment, one pig,
and some chickens. Hugón also requested that his executor, the moreno captain Manuel
Noël Carrière, purchase his fifth child's carta de libertad. Hugón's goods sold at public
auction for 1,095 pesos. After paying for the carta, outstanding debts, and burial and
court costs, Carrière turned over 227 pesos, 5 reales to Hugón's children. "The Free Pardo Militia originated in Cuba. After some upheaval in Cuban, many moved to Florida and from there up the coast to Louisiana.

Hi ! Ms. Brewster; I am struck by the coincidence of names, but the dates don't match; My father, Antonio Donato was born in Procida in 1866, His parents were Battista (or maybe- Giovanni Battista) Donato and Maria Antonia Esposito- and his grandparents were Francisco Donato and Giuseppina Ratta. I do not have any other data on these ancestors, and I am wondering how or where you got the information, and is it something that I can also use to get further info about my ancestors. I and my children will be eternally grateful for your help !!Sincerely, John B.

I haven't researched this family in New Orleans, but I did find the manumission record for a slave called Alexander purchased by Martin Donato. Alexander was the brother of Marianne Duschene. Martin bought him from a Livaudais in New Orleans for the purpose of giving him his freedom because he was Marianne's brother.
Hi, my gr. grandfather was Saverio "Sam" Donato. He was born in Sicily in 1893 and came to the US in 1912. He had three brothers, Francesco "Frank", Giovanni "Dan", and Giuseppe "Joseph". Dan settled in San Diego Calif and I believe Joseph went to Canada and Frank went back to Italy and died on the beaches of Normandy. Email me if you think we might have a link.

Andrea Conroy

Hi Adrienne,
My name is Laura and my parents were from Aidone, Italy. My mothers name was Rose Arena Donato, fathers name was Orazio Donato. He has a brother named Phillip and three sisters who still live there. My uncle Liborio Donato lived in Brooklyn, NY. I am so interested in finding any relationships to the Donato's. I never met any of my Uncles, Aunts, or cousins in Aidone. I just knew my Uncle Liborio Donato. My father is deceased for the last 20 years along with my mother. I feel the need to know more about who they were and where they came from. If I meet any family it will be a plus for me. You can email me direct to my aol account. I hope to hear from you.
