I have made some further progress with my Donkin connections in recent years. Margaret was Margaret O'Connor. The Donkins were descended from the Boardman's of Trentham who in turn were descendants of the Broughs of Trentham.

Earl.

I have no idea if this is anywhere near Rotherhithe. He had a brother William b. 1798. Perhaps when you receive the copy of your family tree, you might find a connection. Keep me posted and thanks for your response.
My Grandfather"s name Henry Darley Anderson and he was born in Newcastle Upon-tyne some time around the 1860's to 1870's. His family was in the shipping or merchantile business and he left England at the age of 19 to work as a shipping agent? in the country of British Honduras ( which is now known as Belize). There he met my grandmother and got married. I am trying to trace his family. I know he had at least one other sibling who had a daughter whose name is suppose to be Mary Kerr. Could Margaret Anderson possibly have been his sister?

The Donkin's of Normacot in Staffordshire

Hi Viv.

The Donkin's appear in the records of Longton and Stone in the 1700's. In the 1800's some Irish immigrants with the Donkin surname also settled in the Longton area.

My own Donkin family tree goes back to William Donkin and Sarah Boardman who married in Newcastle, Staffs in 1782. Sarah is buried in Caverswall Church Yard with who is assumed to be her father, William Boardman 1733-1795. I think his father was Robert but can not prove this.

There were other Donkin's in the area at this time that I have been unable to connect to William.

William and Sarah had at least 7 children, two of whom were boys. William JR who was baptised in 1782 at Stoke and Robert Donkin born in 1800 at Longton. Robert had a son called William who lived at 16 Heath’s passage in 1831. Here is William’s family:

Name:	William Donkin
----------------------------------------
Birth:	1831	Staffordshire, England
Occupation:	Collier (1851,81)
Father:	Robert Donkin (1800-)
Mother:	Ann Davis (1797-)
Spouse:	Margaret
----------------------------------------
Birth:	1833	Carlow, Ireland

Children:
----------------------------------------
1 M:	Robert Donkin
Birth:	1862	Longton, Staffordshire, England
----------------------------------------
2 F:	Jane Donkin
Birth:	1864	Longton, Staffordshire, England
----------------------------------------
3 M:	John Donkin
Birth:	1867	Longton, Staffordshire, England
----------------------------------------
4 M:	William Donkin
Birth:	1870	Longton, Staffordshire, England
----------------------------------------
5 M:	Charles Donkin
Birth:	1872	Longton, Staffordshire, England
----------------------------------------
6 F:	Martha Donkin
Birth:	1865	Longton, Staffordshire, England

Notes for William Donkin
1881 Census Place, 16 Heaths Passage , Stoke Upon Trent

Any connection?

Regards Earl

Am so excited to read your e-mail. I'm writing this for my mother. Her father was William Leroy Donkin. Yesterday I discovered Charles Donkin in the 1880 census and thought that he might be her grandfather due to the correct age and occupation (carpenter). Today I found your e-mail confirming my guess. According to My grandfather's WW1 draft registration info he was born on June 17,1888 in Malden Ma. He died in November, 1931 in Longmont, CO. William and hi wife Julia Huson had three children, the youngest my mother. Please write me as soon as you can. Am thrilled to find a link

My name is Debbie my e-mail is doamommy@aol.com
