John Donohoo of Kentucky

I don't know if there is any connection with the Donohoo's that I am researching. The earliest Donohoo I have is John Donohoo who was born in 1756 and died in 1815. His wife was Nancy Ann Unknown. They had ten children. I have the years of birth and marriages for all but one of the children. They lived in Nelson County Kentucky. I don't know where John and Nancy Ann Lived before they arrived in KY. Not sure exactly when they arrived in KY but are on the 1850 census.

If you think there might be a connection please let me know.

Thanks
Eliz.

Found these three abstract of court cases. Hope it can be of some help to someone.

No.331) O. Bill Sale of Negro Filed 8 Feb 1846 Charles Donohoo, Admr. of Margaret Donohoo, decd vs John J. Humpreys & wife, J.G. Dent & wife, G.W. Turk & wife, L. Humphreys vs Charles M. McGhee Exec. John Humphreys said that John McGhee wanted the Donohoo property but knew the hirs of Charles Donohoo would not sell it to him on account of bad feelings. Humphreys wife was Sallie Donohoo. Humphreys was very friendly with McGhee and agreed to get the heirs to sell the land to Thomas H. Callaway who would then deed it to McGhee, at agreed price that McGhee would pay, except that McGhee would pay Humphreys more than the agreed amount that the other heirs would get. Before McGhee paid him he got in bad financial trouble by signing a mon's Bond and told McGhee to wait and pay him later. He gave McGhee a receipt as though he had paid him. He now wants the Exec. of McGhee estate to pay him.

No.658) Filed 6 Nov. 1858 S.S.
Bill , next week I will get my Augusta Donohues out, spelled every which way imaginable. I am a Donohue descendant. and have never been able to connect Hannah Donnohue to our lines but its not impossible, they all shared similar names and a Augusta co. descendant had sent me lots of info in a folder, so I need to find it, his name was Dale Donnohue?. Probably spelled a different way. I am sure it must be where I got Henry and Hannahs names from. so I will see what he has on them . thanks. Jane.

Jane,

I kept my message short because I didn't know if after three years you were still researching the Donnohues or would even receive a notice of my post.

I already have information on Hannah J. Donnohue's ancestry taking it back to Augusta Co, VA.

In your initial query you were searching for information on Henry C. and Hannah Donnohue. I am looking for information on their descendants since we share a common ancestor, William Wright of Augusta Co, VA.

I show seven children for Henry and Hannah: Thaddeus S., d age 1 yr; Henry, Jr., b 1870 (what happened to him?); Joshua Tiffin, b 1872 (what happened to him?); Robert M., b 1875, m Martha J. and had two children; Daniel Dee, b 1882, d 1962, m Martha J. Cook (did they have children? Is this your line?); Margaret E., b 1885, married twice 5 or 6 children, I have identified two); Fred (var spellings) Egger, b 1888 (what happened to him?).

That a brief synopsis of what I know and some specific questions. I trust you had a good Christmas and wish you a happy new year.

Bill

This is in the For What It's Worth Department, but I offer it because bits like this can often be something you stumble over only accidentally.

The following Donohoos are buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Afton, Oklahoma:

Donohoo Infant,1899,died,1899,child of,Dr.J.& Mrs.Dellan Donohoo
Donohoo Mattie,died,March 29-1895,wife of,Dr.J.Donohoo
Donohoo Rebecca,born,Oct.12-1871,Tenn.,died,Aug.31-1906,wife of,Charles Donohoo(m) 1857
Donnahoo Ida,died,Aug.11-1921

They're no kin to me, but another Mrs. Donohoo was one of my grandmother's dear friends; her husband was a doctor, Joe D. Donohoo and he practiced in Afton around the early 1900s. I have more information on that family if anyone is interested. I don't know if or how the above listed in the cemetery were connected with the Doctor and his family.
There is a web site you can look at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~zashes/#Donohoo

I do have some information on the Donohoo's who moved to Ill. It was Michael and his wife Julia Welsh. I also have some information on the Mudd family in Nelson County, KY. Michael and his wife Julia were married in St. Joseph Church in Bardstown KY. I have been trying to connect this family (father Patrick Mother Caroline Green-Donohoo) and his brother Ansel Donohoo with our Donohoo's who also lived in the Nelson County area at the same time, although Patrick came later than our John Donohoo.

I also have some Mudd family info since both my husband's mother's family and my mother's family have lots of Mudd's in them. I have info that traces the Mudd's to Mordecai Lincoln (uncle to Abraham.) Mordecai married Mary Mudd and their daughter Elizabeth Lincoln married Benjamin Mudd.

If you would like what I have please e-mail me direct
accumed2@cs.com
Elizabeth Donahue

I do have some information on Ansel B. Donohoo in Nelson County, Kentucky. His brother Michael whom he did some business with. I think Michael is the one who married Julia Welsh in Nelson County, KY and they moved to Rhuma Ill. Ansel stayed in KY and died in Jefferson County (Louisville)

Their father was Patrick Donohoo and mother was Caroline Green or Carolyn Green. They lived in Bardstown and this Donohoo family could read and write. They served on Juries and entered into business. Also had some real estate dealings.

I am tracing John Donohoo and his wife Nancy Ann. They also lived in Nelson County, in the New Hope area. They lived on a farm and neither could read or write. I have not been able to connect the two Donohoo families but keep hoping to be able to find some connection.

We have had several male members of the family submit DNA for testing to determine not only other relatives but also to determine what part of Ireland they originated.

Trinity University in Dublin is working to establish the beginnings of several Irish surnames and Donohoo is one of these names.

We have discovered that there were two seperate Donahue families in Ireland. One in County Kerry and the second one in County Cavan. Our line apparently comes from County Cavan.
We should have the final results of the DNA test (37 marker test) by the end of May or first two weeks of June. (it usually takes 6 weeks but can take 8 weeks)

If you would like the information I have on Ansel (this is how he spelled it on most documents. He also went by his initials A.B. Donohoo) please contact me direct.

accumed2@cs.com

I will try to respond as quickly as I can
Elizabeth Donahue

Joseph McClosky Donohoo

Joseph McClosky Donohoo was born on 9/30/1879 in Marion County,Kentucky. He died on March 5, 1932. He was the son of Charles Donohoo and Nancy Ellen Ballard. I have a picture of Charles and Nancy Ellen on their wedding day. This picture was printed in a book published in 2000 by the Kentucky Standard and is on sale at the local book store in Bardstown.

I have a list of the brothers and sisters of Joseph M. Donohoo but little information about Joseph except what I have given above.

His father Charles William Doohoo Sr. was born 8/2/1858 and died on 10/17/1924 in Marin County KY. Nancy Ellen was the daughter of John Ballard and Jermima Wheeler. She was born 4/26/1856 amd doe 2/6/1923 also in Marion County,KY.

Charles woned 400 acres ofland on the Clarktown Road. The first 150 acres was part of the farm that his grandfather owned. He purchased this after the death of his father's last wife. Ann Wheeler-Donohoo.

After his father's death Charles purchased 250 acres from his late father's estate in 1902.

in 1909, charles started selling land to his sons. Sidney, Joe and Charlie. According to the Nelson County deeds he sold off all but 125 acres which he lived on until his death.

The cause of death for Charles was Blood poisoning from a cat scratch.

His wife's nickname was Nannie they were married before 1879.

There were a total of 10 children that I have found listed.

Hope this helps you in your research. I would love to share some information with you and fill in the blanks for Joseph M. nd his family. Please e-mail me direct with your response.

Thanks Elizabeth Donahue
accumed2@cs.com

The Donahoo's and Stringer 's are all tied together. I will further check all my papers that have been sent to me on them. I do have in one of my records that Phearby b 1797 , was the daughter of Lawrence Stringer 1771-1841 and Sarah Pitt 1780-1779 . I also show Phearby is buried in Comanche, Tx. and her husband is listed as Joel Van Cleve Apr 2, 1793 Madison Co ky and buried in Robertson Co Tx. This info is from others researcher and not in my direct line. Mary Latham

I assume they were married before coming to KY. They had ten children all born and married in KY. I don't know when John and Nancy Ann came to KY and where they lived prior to moving to KY. I haven't followed each of the ten children after they married so some could have left the state.
Phyllis, we may be searching the same family. I can trace my husband's family to John Donohoo. They had a farm near New Haven Kentucky. (This is in Nelson County) He was born in Ireland in 1756, and was married to Nancy Ann.

I have also found other Donohoo's in Nelson County at this time. Patrick (he could read and write, served on at least one jury) Michael. He disappeared and have little on him other than the names of some children who married in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. I think that since they all came to Nelson County about the same time they may be related. They all spelled their names the same. (Don't think Michael or John could read or write. They signed documents with their marks) If you think there may be a connection please contact me direct.

accumed2@cs.com I don't check the message boards as often as I would like to.

Elizabeth

Yes, we have a connection. I have been working with two people who connect direct to Charles Donohoo, son of John Donohoo. Charles was born in 1799 and married Sophia Dupin on August 28th 1800. Charles had a twin, named Patsy who married Osborn Bland. Please contact me on my direct e-mail so I can attach all the data I have in my database on the Donohoo family.

accumed2@cs.com

Look forward to sharing info.
Elizabeth Donahue

I am hunting down a Benjamin Franklin Donahue of Clinton County, Ohio, whose father's name was Andrew Donahue. So, in the process, I'm looking at all the Andrew Donahues of the Warren, Clinton, Highland, Brown, and Clermont Counties in Ohio in the 1850 Census.
I haven't found any sure links as to which one is 'my' Andrew (he married Elizabeth Stevens in 1856 in Clermont County), but I have run across a lot of information that may relate to the book you mentioned.
It stuck in my mind, because when I saw your mention of CP Donohoo married to Lydia Baker, I remembered a bunch of curious names I came across at www.familysearch.com just today.
Apparently John Donohoo married Ann Malcom about 1797, and I've noticed at least 3 sons... James Cook Donohoo (m. Rachel in 1827, settled in Highland County.... ch in 1850 census: Wm 22, Rebecca A. 20, Mary J. 18, Narcissus, 15, Sarah E. 9, and Catharine 5), Amariah Donohoo (m. Martha "Patsy" Ockerman Landiss in 1830, ch in 1850 census: Andrew 19, Barbara 17, Jacob 15, Sarah 14, David 12, Nathan 11, Margaret 7, Theodore 6, Amariah 5, Jane 2), and Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry Donohoo (Sometimes known as Commodore Perry Donohoo or CP) (wife Lydia... I did not come across them in the 1850 census - yet - ). Perhaps this helps.
Right now, the only Andrew Donahue in the area that seems a likely match for my Benjamin Franklin's father is Andrew, son of Amariah... If you have any information that can help me find B.F.'s father, let me know.
Thanks.
