Hi,
I'm trying to find information on Hugh Donohue and any assistance would be much appreciated.
Here is a summary of what I know. Hugh was born about 1833, always states his place of birth as County Cavan Ireland. His father was ichael Donohue (Farmer) and mother was Annie Rourke. Hugh immigrated to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia when he was 24 on the Emma in Jan 1857. He was travelling with a John Donohue aged 23 (maybe a cousin). Hugh's name in immigration record is spelt 'Donoghue' but all certificates issued in Australia (e.g. marriage and children's birth, death) use 'Donohue'. Native place given in ships records was Templeport County Cavan. He was Roman Catholic and could neither read nor write. Immigration sponsor was Francis Bannon or Bannan.
In May 1870 he married Mary Ann Flynn - St Mary's Cathedral Sydney (Roman Catholics) - Witness was Ellen Riedy. Mary Ann Flynn was an immigrant from County Limerick, she arrived on the Hotspur in 1863 and was sponsored by Martin Reidy.
Hugh and Mary had 4 children, all born in Sydney - Mary Ann born in 1871 in Woolloomooloo, Catherine Bridget born in 1874 in Millers Point, John born in 1876 in Millers Point and Hugh who was born and died in 1878 in Millers Point
- Hugh (senior) was a quarryman and died in Waverley, Sydney, New South Wales Australia on 15 December 1879 (probate package has been requested) and the informant on his death certificate was Thomas Donohue, cousing of Day Street, Sydney.
Any info you may have that would help me trace ancestors back in Ireland would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Julia
