George DONOHUE d. 1915

Batavia Daily Newspaper
Genesee County, NY
5-18-1915

GEORGE DONOHUE FOUND LIFELESS
Batavian Died Suddenly Of Heart Disease In The Cab Of An Engine
LONG RAILROAD EMPLOYE[E]

George DONOHUE, a former New York Central flagman, died suddenly last night while seated in the cab of a locomotive in the New York Central roundhouse. Coroner Snow was summoned and gave the cause of death as heart disease.
Until about six months ago DONOHUE had been employed by the Central as a flagman. He secured employment for a short time in Chicago and three weeks ago returnel to Batavia, having been unemployed since. Joseph McINTEE, foreman of the roundhouse, said that there was no on in the engine when he inspected the fire under the boiler about 9:30 o’clock last night. Later, about 11:30 o’clock, he made another round of the engines and found the body of DONOHUE lying on the cab floor.
For several years DONOHUE had been suffering from a weak heard and had been repeatedly warned by physicians of late that his condition was serious. It is the opinion of the coroner that the strong heat from the fire in the engine furnace may have caused his collapse shortly after he entered the cab to rest.
Mr. DONOHUE was born at South Byron 34 years ago and came to Batavia with his family about 25 years ago. He was employed for a number of years as a New York Central, brakeman and on June 15, 1908, suffered the loss of his right arm by falling under and Erie freight train just west of the Jackson street crossing in Batavia. After his arm was amputated he secured a job as crossing flagman on the Central in Batavia. He had many friends among the railroad employees.
Four brothers, Daniel of Batavia, Thomas of California, Patrick of Gloversville and Lawrence DONOHUE of Pavilion, and two sisters, Miss Hannah DONOHUE and Mrs. Bert FROMHART of Batavia, survive him. He never married. The body was removed to his late home, No. 21 Maple Street.

William died in Brooklyn, NY in 1900 and was married to Mary Ann Huzzey Gray. They had three children William, Jr. b. 1891, Edna, b. 1893, and Louis, b.1895. I would appreciate any information about them, especially where in Ireland they came from and if they immigrated to the US.

I urge all Donohoe's and all it's spellings to get your DNA
tested. There is a great DNA project going on at the O'Donoghue Society.
Hello Cynthia,

You're welcome. Yes, the O'Donoghue Society is a great website. It takes all variants of the name. If you have a Donohue male in your family line maybe he could take the DNA test and get your family in the results, too.

My Donohoe's are from Co. West Meath.

Keep searching,

Mary

Jack Donohue mystery - Brooklyn NY

Seaching for any clues to "Jack" Donohue, birth date unknown; and his wife. He was married to Rosa HACKER. According to 1900 census Rosa/Rose HACKER was born ca 1905 Morgan Co, Illinois; she was the daughter of James and Lucinda HAZELWOOD Hacker. When Rosa's father died in 1933, obit says survived by "Mrs. Jack Donahue of Brooklyn, New York"; mother's obit says "Mrs. J. Donahue, Brooklyn, NY". She is still living when a sister died in 1980, "Rose DONOHUE of Brooklyn, NY". Hacker family members say they believe Jack and Rosa had one son, Jack, Jr. I can not locate where or when this couple married, nor can I find them on any census. The only thing I have found is a SSDI listing for a Rose DONOHUE, born 15 June 1905, died Aug 1981, last residence of Brooklyn, NY, last benefit in Bergen Co, New Jersey. I am unable to get a death certificate for this person to see if it is the Rose I am looking for.
Any Donohue/Donahue family members out there with a Jack who married a Rose Hacker? Any help appreciated.
Thank You, May imnoble7@yahoo.com

Shooting of T. B. Donohue

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 4 October 1890...

Bereft of Reason

San Antonio, September 27 - T. B. Donohue, well-known in Texas railway circles, having served in an official capacity with the Texas & Pacific railway for a number of years, left this city several weeks ago on a prospecting tour of Mexico. All trace of him had been lost until yesterday, when the news reached here of the pitiable plight to which he had been reduced at Tampico. He was bereft of reason there a few days ago, and was taken in charge of by friends, who intended to bring him back to Texas. Pending the start for home Donohue escaped his keepers and was found wandering along the wharves on the gulf front. A Mexican policeman attempted to arrest him. Donohue, by a powerful blow, knocked the officer into the water and drowned him. A squad of police then surrounded the infuriated maniac and were met with desperate resistance. Donahue was shot several times and received other wounds, which it is feared will result in death. His wife and daughter here were prostrated by the news.

I don't have much info, but maybe this will help.
George Francis Donohue Born: 31 July 1903 Worcester, Mass
Father: JOhn Joseph DOnohue Born 1884 County Mayo, Ireland
Died: 1965 Hampden, Mass
Mother: Brigette Elizabeth Philbin Born 1886
Children: Florence, Grace, James, John, Mae, Nanny, Phillip Robert, and George

James and John were priests. Several of the girls never married, so the tree is rather sparce. If you will send me an email, I will invite you to share my family tree on ancestry.com.

It is good to touch base with you! Heppy researching! Robin Hopkins Kenney email: birdie056@yahoo.com

O'Donohue , Donoyou , Donohue

My father's middle name was Reuben and I always wondered where this came from.
He was born Albert Reuben Donohue on the 8th September 1921 in Liverpool, England
His father, Albert Edward DONOYOU (DONOHUE)
B 6 july 1897 Battersea,London - D 1947 in Liverpool
Maried SARAH ELLEN TOWNLEY / BRIERLEY
Children
ALBERT REUBEN Donohue
CHARLOTTE MARY (SHIELA) DONOHUE
SUSANNAH DONOHUE
LILIAN DOREEN TERESA DONOHUE
Siblings ERNEST WILLIAM HERBERT DONOYOU (DONOHUE)
B 28 Oct 1985 Croydon, London
My G/G/grandfather was James O'Donohue believed to come from Ireland about 1845 ,he married Susan CARROL,It is not known where they married or when. There seems to be some confusion over the spelling of the surname, I was told James O'Donohue came from Ireland and dropped the 'O' from the name, at some stage it was again corrupted to Donoyou as is evident on my grandfathers b/cert, however my fathers name is spelt Donohue.
Any further help would be gratfully received.
Kind Regards, Mike
