Classification: Query
Surnames: O'Dooley & Dooley
I just returned from a trip to Bedord, VA and am now more curious than ever to connect with anyone researching the following:
Thomas O'Dooley born in Antrim, Ulster, Ireland in 1670
died on 20 Aug 1744 in Bedford,VA
Thomas' wife Rebekah born in Ireland and died???
Their son Henry, b-1710 Antrim Ulster Ireland d-1778 Botetourt, VA Henry married Martha Anderson b-1720 Augusta, VA d-1778 Bedford,VA (I believe Martha's father was George Anderson)
Henry and Martha owned a lot of land in and around Bedford. Henry and Martha had at least 2 children, Thomas and Jacob, both of which are honored on a monument on the court house lawn for their service in the revolutionary war at the battle at Point Pleasant.
Thomas was later murdered by John Lowry, who was tried and hung at Williamsburg for Thomas'murder.
Jacob was married to Mary Betty Bush, who died in or about 1826. Jacob remarried Nancy Potts in 1830, who is on record as a collector of Jacob Dooley's revolutionary war benefits upon Jacob's death in 1842. Nancy Potts lived into her 90's
Jacob Dooley and Mary Bush fathered my descendant, Gideon Dooley.
I won't go on from here, as this is the place I am stuck. I am looking for records of passage from Ireland and also any other records for our family of Dooley's and O'Dooley's.
Thanks,
Peggy Bailey
