I've just found your message. My darling husband, also Peter Dooley, the grandson of Peter Dooley and Mary Ann Concannon, died on New Year's day and it's knocked me for six. I haven't been back to Ancestry for over a year as I had drawn a blank with Irish records. We did visit Ireland 2 years ago and found the family village, gravestones and a distant cousin. However, my husband's illness intervened. I'd be glad to know anything about my husband's family. He seems to be pretty much the last of the Dooley grandchildren, although I think one remains in Australia, the son of Kathleen, daughter of Peter and Mary Ann. Regards, Susan Dooley

Thanks for your reply. Dooley was her maiden name. However, even though they were living in Co Galway (Irish free state), I suspect that they came from another country prior to Galway. It was said after the Irish were forcibly removed from their land by the English, many of them fled to Galway, where the English had little interest because of the poor agricultural land.

We had names like Lawrence, Martin, Thomas, patrick, Bridget, William and Mary in our line.

One day, we may piece this puzzle together.

Many thanks
Kerryn

Hi Jay
I noticed your Dooley's were from Mt Carmel, Northumberland, Pennsylvania. We too have family that seemed to settle there mid to late 1800's (and possibly earlier). I must admit I got really excited you are researching Clonbrock,Ireland, as we have traced our gggrandmother Mary Dooley b c1826 as an orphan in the Mt Bellew Workhouse, Co Galway and records indicate that she was last residing in Clonbrock....that was until I noticed your Clonbrock was from Co Laios. Do you have any family names dating back to these times I wonder?

Re: Dooly/Dooley DNA Group B

Maybe this will give you a clue.

In 1804 Henry Holcomb and wife Priscilla Dooly were in Georgia. They, along with Jane DOOLY sell their 133 acres on Glade Creek or River, Botetourt Co., VA, to Samuel Baker. (The land was originally granted to Henry DOOLY by Thomas Jefferson in Jan 1780.) Henry DOOLY was killed by Indians in 1795. This is NOT the same Henry as the Henry who married Martha Anderson and is the probable ancestor of the Bedford Co., VA line.

Deborah, apparently the widow of this Henry, was in Franklin Co GA. Deborah, described as "relic of Henry Dooley, lately killed by Cherokee Indians, drew in the Georgia Land Lottery in 1805, as did "Matthias DOOLY" (enough records have been found to indicate that Matthias is Matthew). Deborah and Matthew drew back-to-back in the lottery. Descendants of Matthew Dooly born 1780/85 have also tested as DNA group B.

Look in the archives of the Rootsweb Dooley mailing list for more information on Deborah and Matthew.

Pat

I have validated through dna that my line is in Group B. I have been unable to find my next generation beyond my 2X Great Grandfather, John Dooly Sr. b: 1790 Georgia and eventually moving to MS where he was a Methodist Minister and school teacher. I know that line has strong research and I am hoping someone can help me fill in the gaps. I would be most appreciative for any scrap of information. Thanks, Desperate Dooley

Hi
We have a Lawrence Dooley b 1846, Co Galway Ireland (probably from around Mt Bellew). He immigrated to Derbyshire, England between 1851 and 1861, was working as a coal miner and living with his brother William in Rotherham, Yorkshire 1871. I'm not sure who he married or the names of his children.

Any connection?

Kind regards
Kerryn

Hi Brendan
We have recently found my Great great Grandmother, Mary Dooley b c1826, an orphan in the Mount Bellew Workhouse 1852. Records state that Mary was from Clonbrock and her father was Edward. Rumour has it Mary had 9 brothers that immigrated to the US/Canada previously. I have seen a Tithe Allotment record of an Edward Dooley from Killallaghtan 1826 and suspect this may be out Edward. Edward's brother was Lawrence b c1796 married Margaret Larkin; children Patrick, Bridget, Martin, Mary, Lawrence, Thomas, Catherine and William Riley. We think Lawrence's family was from Mt Bellew. I suspect that Ahascragh Dooley's/Donellan's may be the same family.

Would love to hear from you.
Kerryn

I'm looking for a Michael James Dooley b. 1836, Ireland. The only other information I have about him is that he immigrated to Stormont, Ontario, Canada, no idea when, and he married Christie Gibson (born in Canada). He may have immigrated with another wife because they are listed in the 1871 Census and it indicates that Christie would have been 15 when she gave birth to their first child. I guess that's possible. Or perhaps they are his children from a previous wife?

Just wondering if you know about Michael and if he may have come over with his family on the Seabird.

Thanks
Sarah

Hi brendan
Apologies, I must have missed your reply. It has just been confirmed that my gggrandmother Mary Dooley b c1826 came from Clonbrock, Caltra, Ireland....this is in the parish of Ahascragh? She was orphaned and spent a short time in the Mountbellew Workhouse, before being sent out to Australia 1852. Mary's father is believed to be Edward and it is rumoured that she had 9 brothers that had immigrated earlier to the states (Canada?). From the names of her cousins, we know we are probably looking for names like Patrick, Martin, Thomas, Mary, Catherine, Lawrence and William. Names were often confused on immigration records, so it is possible that there are variations to names like Donnellan, Dooley, Dooley, Daly, Donlan etc etc I wonder if we have a connection.

Kind regards
Kerryn Ferraro
