Seeking parents of Joseph R. Dopson, b. ca. 1770 in SC, probably in Beaufort/Barnwell area. He m. Rebecca Davis, b. ca 1766 in Beaufort. I have that his father was Joseph Dopson, b. ca. 1745, d. 1792 in SC. His mother is unk. Confusing everything is the presence in the same area one Joseph Dobson, about the same age as my Joseph R. Dopson. Frequently, someone I know to be Dopson is listed as Dobson, so I'm never sure which Joseph I'm looking at. In the early census records, frequently only one is listed, but in some years both are, in two different places. Can someone help me solve this puzzle?
