To all fellow Dora researchers,
My family hails from upstate NY. We
kow that my great grandfather was born around
1856. Census records shortly after this time
show a Levi Dora (my great grandfather) and a
Louisa Dora (his mother) being the only members
of the household. It has been speculated that
Levi was illegitimate. Whether Dora was his
father's name or his mother's name is unknown.
The next record we have is a marriage cert. from
1899 showing Levi's last name as Golden and his
father's name as David Golden. This (according
to the cert.) was also his second marriage. He
may have changed his surname to the english
variation to protect his mother (or himself.)
My family also has other birth cert. for Levi's sons
showing the name as Golden. Any info. any of you
might have regarding a David,Louisa or Levi
Dora would be a great help.
