I have found the passenger list from April 1890 when Charles and Wilhelmine Dorow, along with children Anna, Emma, Martha, Wilhelmine, Wilhelm, Paul and Emilie came to the U.S. aboard the "Karlsruhe". They departed Germany from Bremen and arrived first at New York on April 10, 1890 and then continued to Baltimore, MD, arriving in Baltimore on April 12, 1890. (source: Book, Germans to America Vol 58 July 1889 - April 1890) Note, Charles is listed as "Carl."
They are listed as having come from Prussia, Germany, but no village/town is listed. Do you know what town they came from in Germany?
My next step is to search naturalization records from Mason City, IA in hopes of finding this information and then continue into records from Prussia when I can narrow it down to a specific area.
Also, Paul Dorow's listing in the Social Security Death index lists mother's maiden name as "Neibauer" does this coincide with your findings?
Best Regards,
Deanne

Dear Deanne,
WOW! I had been unable to locate Charles & Wilhelmine's immigration records, so finding out this information was such an unexpected delight! All your records coincide with mine (I had a spelling of Newbauer as Wilhelmine's maiden name...but Neibauer is, no doubt, the correct spelling). I also have four other sibblings (William, Ada, Elizabeth, and Charley, who died in 1904 at the age of 12). Unfortunately, I have little other information...the names of the spouses of William and Anna, and an understanding that Emelia, although married twice, never had any children. She inherited her parent's estate.) I have 1910 census records showing Charles and Wilhelmine (age 67 and 58, respectively) and a 154 acre land grant (homestead?)...but that's about it. According to my father, his mother, Emma, was born somewhere outside of Berlin.

I visited the LDS research center in L.A. years ago in an attempt to research their lineage, but didn't really know what I was doing...and came up empty handed. But, I would be happy to try again. Please let me know if you have any suggestions...or if I can be of any assistance to you. Thanks you again!!! Regards, Donna

Diane,
It was so great to hear from you! Your grandfather, Paul, and my grandmother, Emma, were brother and sister. So we share the same great grandparents, Charles and Wilhelmina Dorow, who immigrated from Germany with their children in the late 1800's. Unfortunately, I know little about them and have been unsuccessful to date in locating their immigration records or establishing their family lineage in Germany (although I understand that my grandmother was born in 1874 - somewhere in the outskirts of Berlin). If you have any information concerning our greatgrandparents, I would love to hear from you. (Do you know Wilhelmina's maiden name?)Also, if you are interested in the limited information I have, I would be very happy to share. I do have a picture of my grandmother, Emma, at age 16, alongside her grandmother (our gg grandmother, who was in her 90's.). I would be happy to send you a copy. Anyway, I'm so glad you wrote. I would love to hear back...and, if you're, interested, I would be happy to keep you posted when I find out any additional information about our genealogy. Best Regards, Donna

With reference to Paul I believe all of this information is
correct. Forrest was my Father. Paul married my Grandmother, Lula Abby Porter. Forrest was their Son and
he married Elizabeth Marie Page (deceased) who had my
Brother, Gary Dean Dorow, now living in Topock, AZ and
myself Diane Louise Dorow King who married Charles Eugene
King and had two Daughters, Deanne Elizabeth King and
Maureen Jeanette King. If I can be of further assistance,
please email and I will help all I can.

Paul Dorow

I'm not sure if this is the same man,... but my grandmother's younger brother was named Paul Dorow. He was born in 1885 in Minnesota (so a marriage in 1905 seems quite possible) and died in 1948. His parents were Charles and Wilhelmine who immigrated from Germany in 1890.

I know Paul had a (now deceased) son named Forrest who was born sometime between 1906 and 1911. Forrest has two living children, Gary and Diane. Let me know if you think this migjt be the same Paul.

Dear Deanne,

I am so thrilled to receive your email! It is so hearthwarming to know that your great great grandparents, Charles Paul Dorow and Wilhelmina)) were my great grandparents. (Your great grandfather, Paul, was my grandmother (Emma's) brother).

My father, Frederick, who passed away last year, spoke often of his Uncle, Paul, and his cousin (your grandfather), Forrest. My mother (who is still alive) also dearly remembers Forrest, as they all came to live in California sometime in the 1940's...before I was born.

Several years ago, I made contact with your uncle (Gary) who sent me a picture of your grandparents. He told us of your mother, Diane, who he indicated was living in Las Vegas at the time. (Hope I have these details right....I'm operating from memory).

In any case, I would love to talk with you ....hopefully share whatever information we have. My cousin's daughter, who lives in Washington, has also done research...and has spoken to distant relative in Minnesota and has some information you might be interested in.

Please contact me....would love to talk. I live in Pismo Beach, CA ....where are you?

Loving Regards,
Donna

Anyway, I would be so happy to share whatever information I have regarding our family. I have some information about Paul's sibblings and parents about your ggg

Donna...sorry it has taken this long to get back to you but I have been ultra busy and on the road somewhat.
The Paul Dorow I am seeking information on was born 9/15/1884 and was married to my maternal grandmother on 20 Sept. 1905 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their witnesses were
Walter Dorow, Paul Laabs, Friedrich
Kornberger, Maria Bretuzmann, Maria Dummer,
Clara Wileke. They were married at Cross Lutheran Church by the Rev. J. Strassen. I have a copy of their marriage certificate.
They were subsequently divorced on 2/3/1911.
I have no knowledge of the reason for the divorce only some unsubstantiated rumors. My
grandmother never spoke of it openly to me or for that matter to my mother. What I am serching for is his date of birth; if he ever remarried, if so was there a family etc. I have no desire to harass the family or to distrub them. I am just trying to fill out my family history. I never knew my maternal grandfather. Again, many thanks for
your response to my initial inquiry.

I have just returned from a lengthy trip...they call it a vacation to my home in Wisconsin and will share some information on Paul Dorow that I obtained. Please be patient for I will be on the road for a few days.
