I'm looking for more info on Jacob Dorst, born in 1864, to William and Margaret (Schlacter). Not sure if he was born in Buffalo, NY or Bavaria.. and had a younger brother, Louis, born in 1867. Both Jacob and Louis entered St. John's Orphan Home in West Seneca, NY around 1875 after their parents died. Any further info would be appreciated.. thanks!

I am hoping that you are still at this address. I am helping a friend do her genealogy. Her gradmother is a Dorst from the NYC area, so I was wondering if there was a connection here. Her name was Catherine Dorst. She was born on 26 Jan 1927 and married Chester Adelbert LaFleur. According to family rumours, she was quite the Manhattenite and came from a rather well-known family. Any connections?

My great grandfather, Martin Henry Voelp, had twin first cousins who had both been gassed in WW1. I believe one was Phil other name unknown. Martin's sister was Ella, she married (Eddie?) Dorst. She was called "Tanta Ella". They lived in New York or New Jersey. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I would appreciate hearing anythng. Thanks.

Hi Jon...I don't know if you received my first email but I have information on your parents. Your father was my Uncle Carl. My father was Andrew Pfeil, his brother. I met your mother and you and your brother and sister when you were a baby. Were you adopted by a minister? My mother told me that Carl's kids were adopted by a minister and his wife. Your parents are buried here in Michigan along with your father's parents and several siblings. Please contact me as I can give you information that you are looking for. Hi Jon...My name is Barry Pfeil from Michigan. My father, Andrew Pfeil had a brother named Carl who was married to a woman named Ruby. Both Carl and Ruby are buried in West Berlin Cemetary in Berlin Township, Michigan. My dad and Carl's father's name is Karl Pfeil and their mother was Katherine Pfeil both also buried in West Berlin cemetary. If any of this sounds familiar please feel free to email me.

Have a John DORST/DORSTE/DORSTY who was married to a Margaretha NORD/NORTH. They both came from Germany, from the Pfalz area.

My gr.grandmother Margaret Dorst was born in NYC but family also lived in Westchester Co. and Brooklyn.

My gr.grandmother Maggie Dorsty had a brother named Benjamin plus a Henry and Frederick. The name Benjamin caught my eye since families seem to use similar names.

Please write and maybe we can find some common ground.

Researching Family lineage of:

Peter BUMGARNER who married in 1735 to Barbara DORST by Reverand Stover of the Evengelical Lutheran Church of Leban Township, PA; they perhaps afterward settled in Catawaba Valley, N.C. Reverand Stover baptised their sons John born 13 May 1740 and Johann 9 May 1742 in Lebanon, PA.

These surnames could be spelled differently today or at that time periods. i.e. BAUMGARTNER, BAUMGARDNER, BUMGARDNER, BUMGARNER -- DORST DOURST or etc. Trying to find the N.C. connection to both DORST and BUMGARDNER in the early 1700's!

I have a Conrad b 1798 Germany, mar Catherine Bohlender in 1826; children: Johann Dietrick b 1835 mar Elizabeth Kolb, Jacob b @ 1838, Henry b @ 1841 mar Margaret Lorenz, and Louisa b. 1848. The family came to the U.S.1835, settled Dearborn Co. IN. They lived next to Phillip Dauner and August Viel (I've seen it spelled Fiel). With so many similarities, I'm hoping there is a connection.

Don- I haven't been able so far to tie in the names you mention the birth year for your John doesn't match any of the Johns in my lineage but who knows what may turn up. Also the name Conrad is not very common- I have found it in two othe lines that I haven't been able to connect- one from a geneleman in Ill. whom I doubt is still alive since he was born in 1911 and another from Kathi Abendroth in Seattle- you can find her on the Abendroth message board. Donna: You've piqued my interest.....My Great Great grandfather was John Dorst, born about 1812 in Alsace; married Mary (Margaret) Phiel or Fiel possibly in Buffalo NY. Their son Jacob was my great grandfather. John and Mary's children, according to my records are Mary, Jacob, Conrad, John, Lydia and Mayme. Do you think there's any connection??

Tom- I know for sure you link into my line- it goes back to Henry and Margaret who came to Meigs Co. from Germany 1837, believe Henry's parents were John Jacob and Mary. My uncle had a geneology done after WWI but it was lost somewhere but he said he actually went thru the hamlet of Dorst in the Alsace region of Germany durning the war.

His name was Andrew William Dorst, Jr. His father was Sr. and lived in or around NJ. when last we heard. I have a 3 year old son, named Elijah Dorst now. That's why I'm looking into the heritage.

I have a burial record on a Mary E. Williams d) June 10, 1880 at 52 yrs of age in Pittsburg, Pa. The record states that she was born in Troy, Ohio to John and Mary Dorst. She was the widow of C. Butler Williams and is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Does she tie in with your family?
