I am researching the Dortons of Cabarrus County, NC. As best as I can determine William and Charles Dorton (born ca 1760) were soldiers of the Revolutionary War, lived in the Rocky River area of Cabarrus County and were either father and son or brothers. Wm. passed away in 1784, and Charles was executor of his estate. Charles was listed as head of household in the 1790 and 1800 censuses. He died in 1838. He divided his land between Eleanor Mays, Mary Brown, Andrew Dorton, Alexander Dorton, David Dorton, Charles F. Dorton, James Dorton, and John Dorton. David was my gg grandfather, and Charles, my ggg grandfather. John Dorton was my great grandfather. I am trying to determine Charles Dorton, Sr.'s wife's name. I believe she was a Spears, a daughter of Wm. Spears. I am also trying to determine the maiden name of David's wife, Darcus. She was born in 1794. If anyone knows any of this information, I would greatly appreciate your sharing it with me. We think maybe Darcus could have been an Alexander or an Irwin. We simply do not know. Please contact me with any knowledge you have of this Dorton line. Many thanks!
