I recently came across more information about Laura in a Nortonville, ND 75 year dedication book. My grandparents (my grandfather would be Laura's grandson) still live in Nortonville. Here's what it said about her:

Laura Irene Dorwin was born Nov. 2. 1888 near Tyler Minn. to LaFayettte and Mary (Newith) Dorwin. She came to the Nortonville area with her father; two brothers, Orrin and Wallace; sister Verna; and Verna's husband Joe Wider; and their two sons, Earl and Walter. Laura's mother and the rest of the family came later.
