Samuel F Dotson b 1831 Grainger Co, Tennessee (?)

Looking for information on Samuel F Dotson appears to have been born in Tennessee in 1831 and moved to Arkansas. Married to Martha Woodward and had children Eliza, Missouri and William Noah Dotson. Married to Louiza Jane Osborn in Newton County, Arkansas in Dec 1871. They had daughters Tennessee and Sarah. Samuel appears to have moved to Stone County, Missouri after 1870 (on the 1870 census living in Newton County, Arkansas) and died in Stone County, MO prior to 1880. Daniel Slane was the administrator of his estate.

Samuel's son William Noah Dotson is my great grandfather. He married Amanda Elizabeth Slane in Stone County, Missouri in 1889. Does anyone have any info on Samuel Dotson? Trying to find out when he died (between 1874-1880) and where he was buried. Also would like to know who Samuel's parents were.
Hello, Looking for information of my husband's grandmother, Ruth Dotson. Dotson was her married name. She had been married to a Goodwin, previously. I know she lived in Maine at one point, but while married to Mr. Dotson, they were living in Kentucky (Lexington, I think). I know that she died in the mid-1990s. I do know that Mr. Dotson was rather wealthy, and they were a prominent family. I know nothing else about her. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Marsha Goodwin

Don't have alot of information waiting for my death certificates to come back and try and get more of my family to remember events in their lives. Please if you can help with the searching tips or things you've gatheres especially from Yazoo, MS can you please contact me at decreshawilliams703@yahoo.com

I am also looking for the family Dotson. I don't have that much information, my great great grandmother never talked about her mother and father, I just have information on her siblings DAley Dotson, Elizabeth Dotson who was married in 1866 to William F. Watt in Noxubee County, Buddy "Cicero" Dotson and my grandmother Lee Bertha Dotson when married she became a Coleman. But I have no births on any of them, I was told my grandmother was born around 1895 and found a census for 1920 that gave this same date. If anybody can help please contact me at decreshawilliams703@yahoo.com.

The only Rector Dotson that I have found has been in Grainger Co., TN, a son of Samuel & Sallie Dotson, born 22 Nov 1881, according to his WWI Draft Registration card. Does anyone know this man to identify the photo? Does anyone know his family?

I'm a Dotson from Choctaw county, Mississippi now living in Modesto California. It is so hard trying to look up the any of our ancestors, because our families should left better records, or even passed on information a little better. I just begun looking up my Dotson family and so far I'm stuck on my great-grandfather.Hause Dotson(Hame Dotson)who was born in around 1873. I cannot find any records in Choctaw , county records of his birth, I'm trying to find his Parents. I realize his parents were slaves so I have been looking up Records of white Dotson family who sometimes had farm laborers working and living on their land. Also to any black Dotson if you do not already know the Dotson Name Is Irish.

Maybe some of the following will help you.

George Dodson was born about 1800 in Pittslyvania County, Virginia. He married Mary McDaniel on January 24, 1828 in Pitt County, Virginia. In 1830 George was living in Pittsylvania County in Virginia with one son under the age of five and one female between 20 and 30. Living on either side of him were Sampson Dodson and Ralph Dodson. George Dodson died about 1835 in Calloway County, Kentucky (Marshall was not a county at this time).

George and Mary had three children: William J. Dotson, Narcissus and Stephen. CK on Stephen.

William J. Dotson was born December 22, 1828 in Virginia. He married Lucinda B. Clark on May 31, 1849 in Marshall County, Kentucky. Lucinda was born about 1827 in Tennessee and she died January 16, 1920 probably Marshall County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of John and Myra Clark.

In 1850 William J. and Lucinda were living in District 2, Calloway County, Kentucky. The census dated August 23, 1850 shows Lucinda as 23 years old and William as 21 years old. He was a farmer who had been born in Virginia and Lucinda had been born in Tennessee. Lucinda could not read or write.

They were living next door to Mary Dotson, Narcissus Dotson, Stephen Dotson and Ann McDaniel. Mary was 49 years old, Narcissus was 19 years old, Stephen was 8 years old and Ann was 79 years old. Ann would have been Mary’s mother. All but Stephen were born in Virginia. Stephen was born in Kentucky. Mary Dotson had real estate valued at $400.00.

Living near them were P. R. McDaniel and his family, A. J. McDaniel, Aaron McDaniel and his family, and G. A. McDaniel and his wife. I would believe that Aaron was a sister to Mary Dodson/Dotson.

I believe that Mary Dotson died in the early 1850's in Calloway County, Kentucky.

In 1860 W. J. Dotson and Lucinda B. Dotson were living in Shiloh, Calloway County, Kentucky. Living with them were Sarah F., John A. and Henry M. Dotson. William J. was a farmer and had real estate valued at $400. He, also, had personal estate valued at $419. This census dated July 25, 1860 states that Sarah was born in Tennessee. John and Henry were born in Kentucky. Sarah was 10 years old, John was 6 years old, and Henry was two years old.

Living next to them was Narcissus Dotson and Prince A. Dotson. Prince was a male and two years old. He had been born in Kentucky. Narcissus had real estate valued at $400 and personal estate at $40. A few farms away lived W. F. McDaniel and his family.

In 1870 William J. Dotson with Lucinda B. Dotson lived in Wadesborough, Calloway County, Kentucky. Living with them were their children: John A., age 14, Henry M., age 11, Mary A.,age 9, Stephen D.,age 8, Berry T., age 5, and twin, Nancy Elizabeth, Katherine N. Dotson, age 2. William was a farmer and had real estate valued at $375.

Living next to them was Sarah and Andrew J. Holt. Also, living near them in 1870 was John Clark, age 80 born in Virginia, along with Rufus and Richard Clark, Ann and Louisa Hopkins. This might be the father of Lucinda. I found John Clark born in Virginia in 1790 and his wife, Elmira, born in North Carolina, living in Hawkins, Tennessee in 1850. If the census taker took the date seriously, he would not have listed Lucinda as being born on May 31 as he was not to list anyone living before June 1, 1850. In 1880 I found John Clark, age 90, born in Virginia, living in Bishop’s Mill, Marshall County, Kentucky. He was living there with J. D. and Louisa E. Jones (?) and her family. J. D.’s sister-in-law, Ann Hopkins, and, niece, Louisa Hopkins, along with father-in-law, John Clark.

In 1880 W. J. Dotson and his family were living in Bishop’s Mill, Marshall County, Kentucky. Living with them were their children: Mary A., Henry M., Stephen D., Berry T., Elizabeth A., Harriet Dotson. William J. was a farmer. Mary A. was 29, Henry M. was 21, Stephen was 16, Berry was 14, Elizabeth was 12 and Harriet was 7 years old. W. J. was a farmer.

In 1890 W. J. Dotson died on October 18. There are no census records available for 1890.

In 1900 Lucinda Dotson was living with L. H. (Harriet) Cross and her family in Magisterial District 1, Ross, Olive, Marshall County, Kentucky. She was 72 years old. Lucinda was living next door to her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth “Bettie” and her family. Also, nearby was her son, Stephen D. and his family.

In 1910 Lucinda Dotson was living yet with Harriet L. Cross in District 1, Marshall County, Kentucky. She was 83 years old. She was living on Fairdealing and Jonathon Creek Roads. Living nearby was her daughter, Nancy Elizabeth “Bettie”, and her family. On the census records Lucinda always states that she had twelve children but I can find a record of thirteen children. I assume that the one without a name she did not county.

William and Lucinda had thirteen children:

Sarah Frances Dotson
No Name Dotson
Louisa J. Dotson
John Allen Dotson
John J. Dotson
Henry Monroe Dotson
Stephen Davis Dotson
Mary Ann Dotson
Berry Thomas Dotson
Katherine C. Dotson
Nancy Elizabeth Dotson
Harriet Dotson
Nancy C. Dotson

I didn't know that Narcissus married Thomas Holt. I knew that Sarah Dotson married Andrew Jackson Holt. Tell me more about Narcissus. I know that she had a son Prince but I don't think she was married at that time.

How are you related? William J. was my husband's ggrandfather. His grandmother was Nancy Elizabeth.
