not related - for board info

Daily Press
Victorville, San Bernardino, CA
14 March 2008, B2

WILLIAM DOTTA

William “Bill the Wildman” Antone Dotta, 73, passed away of natural causes March 3, 2008. He was at home in Apple Valley surrounded by family and friends.
Bill was born in Portola and raised in the Sierra Valley, though to hear him tell it he was born in Oklahoma and, in trying to get dinner, chased a jackrabbit all the way to California while trying to hit it with a stick.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served as a radarman in the USS Boxer CV-21 during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Navy, he lived in Southern California in Orange County for more than 25 years and then spent 29 years in the High Desert with most of those in Apple Valley.
Bill was an independent contractor working for Cannon Craft, Masters’ Craftsman Shutters and owner of Custom Shutters Inc. He also was an independent builder contractor for many years. His influence in shutter installation can be felt far and wide. Just try to find a good shutter installer who was not trained by Dad or someone he trained!
In his years in Apple Valley, he was an ardent supporter of his children and their pursuits at Apple Valley High School. In the early ’80s, he was highly supportive of the choral music department and was frequently present to boo us to laughter! Throughout Bill and Bando’s football years in the ’80s and ’90s, he could often be heard hollering on the sidelines, stirring up the fans and the team alike!
Throughout his life, Bill was a supporter of all kids. There were too many to begin to name. He took many into his home and heart to help raise, love and straighten out. We all just want to know how the heck he always knew what we were doing all the time, especially when we didn’t want him to know.
Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, RoseMarie of Apple Valley; daughter and sonin-law Benene and David Craig of Apple Valley; son and fiancee Bill R. Dotta and Kim of Apple Valley; son and daughter-in-law Brandon “Bando” and Michelle Dotta of Simi Valley; daughter Kelly Wieler of Olympia, Wash.; sons Terry Lee Wieler of Spanaway, Wash., and Jeff Stieringer of San Bernardino; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Judy Dotta of Loyalton; sister Elinor Reynolds of Cottonwood; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family, friends and friends who are family.
Bill was preceded in death by his son Daniel A. Dotta. We know they are playing cribbage and Scrabble in heaven. He was also preceded by his parents, Emil E. Dotta Sr. and Juanita (Nelson) Dotta; and his brother Emil “Bing” Dotta.
In accordance with Bill’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Celebration of Life parties will be held on Saturday and again April 19 at the Dottas’ Apple Valley home. The key requirement to attend is to bring all the great stories we have to tell so we can celebrate and laugh.
Cremation is to be handled by Sunset Hills, Apple Valley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society in Bill’s name. Please make checks payable to NMCRS, 875 North Randolph St., Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203-1977 or online at www .nmcrs.org.

I have been following your messages and wonder if you have ever came across the name Forni. I am researching Dennis (Dionigi) Forni married Josephine Forni (a cousin ?). They had a daughter,Savina, probably Bedretto Valle, before immigrating to California in 1868. Any leads will be appreciated.
Thanks, Fran
fornidf@jps.net

Have you found a Deborah or Heborah born in the 1760-70's as a daughter or sister? She married John Camber, who was also in the Rev. War. They lived in northern Vermont, and about 1800 the family removed to Canada East. Her name has been shown as Data and a few other spellings which adds much difficulty in finding information.

Dear Cinzia,

We will be coming in June. Probably in Airolo around the 13th of June. Unfortunately we will only be there about 3 days. Would love to meet you. Also would like to meet other Dotta's who may be related to us.

My Father's family is from the Genova area, so we will also be stopping there. One of my cousins is from Milan so that is another stop. We are trying to fit a lot of places in a short period of time.

What would be a good hotel to stay in at Airolo? Also staying overnight in Lucerne. Do you have any ideas of good hotels there?

Is there a chance that we could meet you in Airolo?

If you ever want to come to California you can stay here with me. Would love that. I live about 40 miles south of San Francisco. Use my new e-mail address to contact me.
Dear Cathy,
I'm very happy to have some news from you.

Airolo is in fact a small village. There is one of the most famous mountain in Europe the St. Gotthard. There is a museum, very interesting, that it shows the real life of the people in 1800. While I was a student I've been a tourist guide there so if you want I can show it to you. We have mountains, nature, and very closed to Airolo you can also see and take if you want the most steep funicular in Europe.

The italian part of switzerland it is not very big. You can cross it in 2 hours! But we have a lot of history and many places where it will be impressive to go and to do all of that it'll take you time. How long are you going to stay? 2 weeks?

For the weather the best period to come it is end of June and July. In August we never know... It can already snow in the mountains.

Do you also want to know Hotel's names,.....?

I hope to have soon some other news from you.

Cinzia

Dear Cinzia,
My cousins and I, (seven of us) will be coming to Airolo sometime this summer. I wanted to know if you could advise me on places that we must see and things to do while we are there. Of course we will be going to Airolo where our grandmother was born but thought you could help us decide where else we should go. We are in the planning stages now and would like to know what we should see.
Cathy

Dear Cathy,

I'm sorry for the delay, but I couldn't used my e-mail. My e-mail address is pilly79@hotmail.com.
Most of Virgilio's relatives are silling in Airolo. I'm not living in Airolo at the moment because I work too far from my little village. If you want I'll send you some pictures next time.
Virgilio has heped Giocondo Dotta to make the first ski in Switzerland. Giocondo went to USA to find gold. And it seems that he find it. Then one night somebody went in his tent and stole all of his gold and hit him. He find hospitalithy by the American Indian. By them he learnt how to use the skis. When he went back he ask to his cousin Virgilio, that was a joiner if he could help him and make the skis. Airolo most of the peuple tought that he was mad because he used the skis to go to the cattleshed. One day the snow was so hig that anybody could go to their animals and they have to ask for Giocondo's help.
So we become famous in Switzerland, but now nobody remember who made the first skis.
I'll be happy to have some other news from you.
I'm sorry but my english it's not very good...
Keep in touch.

Cinzia
