Hi Cuz. Isaac Keys was one of Gu Lu Sti Yu's kids. On down the line, a later Isaac married John Ramsey's daughter. Isaac fought for Stand Waite in the 1st Cherokee Mounted Volunteers and while he was gone, his wife, Jennie had Leroy Hammond Keys and died in childbirth. He was my Grandfather. I have most of our history if you are interested.
Keith Williams

continued from Catherine Baker . . . at http://wcu.edu/library/CherokeePhoenix which is the special collections department at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee NC you will find minutes of the Cherokee Council in New Echota (GA) in 1837 where Chief William (Bob) Wilson approaches the council and requests that he and his family be allowed to regain their Cherokee citizenship. He states that are full-blood (This is after accepting the reservation in N.AL in 1824).
cbaker501@verizon.net
Cornblossom (no such thing as Indian Princesses) was born between 1765 & 1770 in Cherokee Indian Land and died August 13, 1810 in what is now McCreary Co., KY where a Bronz Marker marks her grave in Stearns, KY. She married Jacob Troxel(Big Jake) aprox. 1784. Big Jake was born Jan. 18 1758 in Philadelphia and fought in the American Revolution.
Big Jake's father was Peter Troxel(Berne Switzerland) and his grandfather was John Peter Troxel who arrived in America, Aug. 17, 1733 on the ship "SAMUEL". Doublehead was Cornblossoms father and and her mother was the daughter of Christian (Pryber) Priber who died in a British Political prison in Fort Oglethorpe, GA in 1753. Big Jake, according to his head stone which is maintained by the Forest Rangers in Danial Boone National Park near the entrance of Yahoo Falls died October 10, 1810, two months after Cornblossom. The Troxels now say he did not die then but died later in Alabama. My Grandmother started doing our family tree in 1965 and it is quite extensive.

In trying to straighten out the relationships this far back in my family tree. I've found the above to be the closest to what I've found thus far. This is the way I have been able to trace directly through grandparents back to Chief Doublehead in my family. My father James Morrison>
GM Georgia I Smith>
G-GF Newton Smith>
GG-GM Margaret Ramsey>
GGG-GF William J. Ramsey>
GGGG-GM Elender Dishman>
GGGGG-GF Jefferson Dishman>
GGGGGG-GM Kezia Kizziah Doublehead (Creat Priber as mother)>
GGGGGGG-GF Chief Doublehead.

Most info that I've come across shows Kezia as Doublehead's daughter and Christian Priber as Creat Priber's father (with a Moytoy mother).

There is nothing that documents that Doublehead took part in one of the accepted ritual marriage ceremony in the Cherokee of those days. More often than not it was a temporary arrangement...a practice that was widely accepted among the People so we don't know how many women he may have accepted as 'spouse'. I have asked many times for someone, anyone to show me what documents any relationship to Creat Priber. She is SAID to be the daughter of CHRISTIAN Priber....who was known as an enemy to the British. He was, basically, a nut case. He had the Cherokee convinced they would live better in a socialistic society ruled by himself, of course. Ludovic Grant was sent to arrest him but failed. Three years or so after his entry into the Cherokee culture he was arrested in Georgia where he died in jail there.

Doublehead was born on the Long Island of the Holsten which is in present day Tennessee. Not Stearns, KY as many claim. He was not a respected man even among the Cherokee. He was known for selling off Cherokee land to the British when he had no authority to do so. His continued beligerance and disrespect to his fellow Cherokee was one of the leading reasons for his death. He was killed because of his continued efforts to sell land that wasn't his to sell.

Re: Doubleheads Gold

Are you all confusing the generations of Doubleheads? The original Chief Doublehead died in the very early 1800's. Since there is little accounting of the exact path DeSoto would have taken it would be extremely difficult to speculate that Chief Doublehead could have possessed some fabled gold 2oo years later. As I have stated before there is absolutely NO documentation that verifies that Chief Doublehead was transported anywhere to be buried. He was born on the Long Island of the HOLSTEN which would now be in northeast Tennessee. Kentucky lands were never lands the Cherokee lived on. It was hunting ground shared both by the Shawnee and Cherokee...plus several Native American cultures. If you think about the logistics of transporting a body from northeast Alabama to Kentucky would mean the body was decaying. There were no special burial customs among the Cherokee. The journal of Henry Timberlake speaks of bodies being tossed into the river to get rid of them. There is nothing that verifies or documents the existence of Cornblossom...except to say the Shawnee have the same legend in their tribe. I've challenged people for about 8 years to show me documentation that any of this is true. No one has yet. IF it IS true I will gladly change my story but until it is documented it is myth. And don't point me toward the Trankersley site. His statements say that researchers probably will never know....not that they do know.

There is no documentation that he had any relationship with any of Priber's daughters. Priber stayed among the Cherokee for a very short time...about 3 years beginning in 1728, ending in 1731 when he was arrested and sent to jail in Georgia where he died. This is verified in the journal of Ludovic Grant who was asked by the SC governor to arrest Priber but failed. Priber was a bit of a lunatic...a very strange person.

The only eye witness that ever wrote about the murder of Doublehead tells an entirely different story. He was killed in the southeast TN area. Old Tassel was killed in 1788 by Kirk under Lieut. Hubbard who was, in return, under the command of John Sevier. Young Tassel lived well beyond the time of Doubleheads killing. The Cherokee never lived in teepee's. THey had mud or log cabins. THe Ridge and two others were responsible for planning the death of Doublehead. It was for political reasons.
