James Douthit m. Priscilla Peebles, d/o Nathaniel Peebles of NC

James Douthit (1782-1837) m. Priscilla Peebles, d/o Nathaniel Peebles of Davidson Co., NC

I am of no kin nor am I doing research on this family, I do NOT live close by these graves I have found, BUT I do research and have found that LITTLE info that I am about to share MAY help someone find their ancestors graves.

Recently my wife and I took a trip to Etowah Indian mounds in Bartow Co. GA ( Cartersville )

I noticed a what appeared to be new bricked in walled area on a hill with just a peak of a monument sticking from top of the brick walls, we stopped and I climbed up the steep bank to find numerous graves, there were more than just
Priscilla Douthit grave markers there, some was the ground slabs as I call them, the little bricked in area was too grown up for me to walk in wearing shorts and sandals, a string trimmer or machete could clean it out easy in 45 minutes.

I do > NOT < know if the Priscilla Douthit buried there IS the one in the subject line, further cleaning of the grave lot may uncover her husbands grave etc.

I just googled the name with Bartow Co. and the Douthit website came up

the following is brief description/directions to the graves:

Take Douthit Ferry Road and cross Old Alabama Rd.

IF you do a mapquest or look on a old map you CANNOT cross Old Alabama Rd. it on mapquest and other maps is a DEAD END, but NOW Douthit Ferry Road crosses Old Alabama Rd. and goes into a farely new subdivision.

As soon as you cross Old Alabama look to your left up on the hill you will see the brick walled encloser, on your right will be a sign about a new Publix business to be built soon on corner across from the small cemetery.
If this is the same person, he was married to a woman named Lena. They had two daughters - Trudy (which I guess is short for rude) and Anna Marie. Trudy lived in San Francisco in the 1960's but the last time I saw her she was talking about moving to the Tahoe area. No one has seen her in years and years.

She had two sons - Patrick Fortune and,I think, Johnny Powell.
She said it was in Michigan.

When I tried to get more information, she stopped talking. I assumed that she knew he didn't want people to know where he was

Willis B. DOUTHIT (1819 - 1894)

I am seeking any information about the parents and siblings of Willis B. DOUTHIT, my wife's ggg-grandfather. Willis was born about 1819 in Kentucky. He married twice; the first time to Harriet MCMAHAN in 1840 in Trimble Co., KY. The second time was also to a Harriet, last name MONROE, in 1853 in Franklin Co., KY.

The first marriage produced four children, Margaret (1843), George (1844), Thomas J. (1847), and James (1849). All were born in Kentucky. Thomas is my wife's gg-grandfather. The second marriage produced six children that I know of: Charles (1855), Willis (1857), Hannibal (1859), Alice (1864), Hattie (1866) and Minnie (1869). All children from the second marriage were born in Iowa.
